Breakfast tacos are unstoppable and beyond affordable. Bacon/Egg/Cheese and Chorizo/Potato/Cheese are my go to. Salsa is delicious and perfectly spicy, and they never fail to include one salsa per taco. I live just up the road and have been going here for over a decade. Daaaaaang their cheese enchiladas are tasty! Easily some of the best I've had in Austin. Prepare yourself to take a nap afterwards due to the carbs though! Decided to finally try this place for the first time! I would give five stars if the service was better. Food was suuuper super delicious - the chips and salsa and the entree. All the employees here, including our server were very very nice and accommodating but our server was just very slow. She didn't check on us very much (and we did need things) and I had to wait for a very long time before she came back to my table so I could get the check. I also feel like the food took quite a while to come out as well. I will come back and just hope for a better serving experience. read more

I appreciate the convenience of being able to call in breakfast taco order to-go, especially when I want to be able to pay with a card. Many of my favorite breakfast taco destinations are trailers and are still cash-only. I appreciate homemade tortillas and salsa. And their salsa is very good. But tortillas and salsa and convenience aren't what will keep me coming back to a restaurant. I didn't mind waiting for the hostess to finish taking another phone order before I could pay and pick up my order. What I did mind was her throwing out some cuss words about that customer (albeit under her breath) in frustration after hanging up the phone right front of me and my daughter. I didn't appreciate that the bacon in each taco we had was so fatty and chewy you'd pull the whole strip out of the taco with your first bite, then you'd have to spit it out to avoid choking. Were the fat rendered a bit more, that wouldn't have been a problem. I didn't appreciate that the cheese was left off of all three of my Carne Guisada "with cheese" tacos I had ordered. I didn't appreciate that the refried beans were un-seasoned. I had in-laws at home to feed and the whole reason I'd ordered out was so they'd be happy, full, and impressed with their breakfast. Of the 12 tacos I ordered... 4 were picked at, the rest left on my counter. In a city where TexMex & Mexican food are so abundant... I reserve the right to be extremely picky about my food and service... because I could close my eyes and stumble a few yards and I'd find myself another option. This is truly some of the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten in Austin, and I've eaten A LOT of it. The salsa was pretty one dimensional, too tomato-ey, too spicy and not enough flavor. I requested a green salsa as an alternative. They did not bring me a green salsa, they brought me their verde enchilada sauce. Although it had better flavor, it was waaaay too salty, it had 5X the amount of salt it should have had in it. The chips were hard, also had no flavor and did not taste fresh. Additionally, they charge $1 per basket of chips after the first one but they don't ask you if you want chips they simply refill it after it gets to the halfway mark and then add it to the tab. I could understand charging for the chips if they were house made and really good, but these were definitely NOT good. My friend had the Mole Enchiladas and I had the #2 combination that had a chalupa, a taco and two cheese enchiladas. The mole was disgusting, it seriously tasted like a chocolate sauce. I understand that Mole has a bit of chocolate in it but it should have a HINT of chocolate flavor. The taco and chalupa were halfway decent but the cheese enchiladas were gummy, gloppy and overcooked. The "gravy" that came on the enchiladas also had no flavor. Please save your money and go elsewhere. I was truly shocked at how bad the food was and I don't write 1 star reviews often but this just had to be said. read more

I have been here once for breakfast and once for lunch. The food is simple but good and also inexpensive. La Posada is a perfect little neighborhood restaurant. They are friendly and know their regular customers. Several times during my visits I saw small talk and hugs between the servers and their customers. Service was fantastic and friendly both times I went. Personally, I probably would never stray far from the enchilada plates or breakfast tacos here. I did try the pancakes and found them a little dry and over-cooked. If I lived just a little closer, this would definitely be my go to margarita joint on Friday afternoon! read more

This place is SO GOOD! I've only come here a few times but both times it was never crazy busy and the people working here are super nice. Their salsa is fresh and spicy, this is definitely a good thing. Their food is cheap and plentiful, another good thing. Their tortillas are homemade, if you don't like homemade tortillas I'm pretty sure you have no soul. The service here feels like family. Is it the best in Austin? Probably not. Is it damn good for the price? Hell yes. A few bullet points: * Their stuffed avocado is literally half of an avocado stuffed with pulled chicken. Not the fried stuff like we all know and love. * They have purple margaritas * Their tortillas are homemade * They have puffy tacos! * Their salsa es muy caliente! * You can get a meal, a FULL MEAL for under $10! It's hard to get motivated reviewing places that don't shake my moracas because there's nothing fun to get excited about. I believe that this place only sesis to exist because it's the only Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood. Service was rated fair to poor this past Saturday night. It looked as though they could have been understaffed, which stinks for them. However, when my margarita comes 15 minutes after I ordered it accompanying my food, it gets my sombrero in a wad. Lucky for them that the queso was really good which I stuffed my face with along with the chips and salsa. The food was average and prices resonably moderate. I won't be coming back to La Posada for their queso, which was generic Velveeta and served with food service tortilla chips. Nor will I be coming back for the cheese enchiladas, which had an odd consistency. Or the carnitas, which were stewed rather than seared. Or even the refried beans and rice, which, while acceptable, were not spectacular. Or the service, which was friendly but slow. What I *will* be coming back for is puffy chicken tacos. The "puffy taco" thing is a misnomer for someone expecting San Antonio style puffy tacos. Instead, what I found at La Posada is the best dadgum gordita since the one I had across the border ten years ago and have dreamt about since. Think of their puffy taco as a thin gordita - but exceedingly light and crisp and just a real joy to wrap your jaws around. And definitely worth a trip back for. read more

La Posada Mexican Restaurant is what I call my "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" discovery. It's JUST RIGHT and let me tell you why. BREAKFAST is one of the best reasons to go there. OMG, the portions are perfect and the coffee is delicious. My personal favorite is the Menudo because it comes with cilantro, diced onions and plenty of attitude. I love these small locally owned places that actually greet you with a smile because not only do they appreciate your patronage but the remember who you are. Go for breakfast. PERIOD. Seriously never come here after 11. Lunch and Dinner are pure garbage. The breakfast tacos are cheap, large, and use surprisingly decent ingredients. The salsa and tortillas are really good. For a good review stop reading now. As for lunch/dinner I thought I would go all out and get their #5 combo which is essentially a portion of everything. Crunchy Taco, Enchilada, Tamale, Fajitas. Crunchy Taco -- the meat was the same quality/consistency of taco bell meat and the shell tasted stale. Fajitas -- the tortillas saved these from being terrible but I do like their tortillas. The chicken had no seasoning and only a spoonful of pico. Tamales and Enchilada came in a corning dish with what they refer to as cheese gravy. These were drowned in cheap chili sauce and melted American cheese. It was so gross I took one bite and that was all I could stand, Since I did enjoy the tortillas we ordered sopapillas and they were good as well but I will never come here for lunch/dinner again so it is what it is. That said I will come back for breakfast tacos. Please learn from my mistake. read more

We've gone to La Posada five or six times now. Usually, we go on a week night or Sunday afternoon. Wow it was packed last night. (Friday night). It is clearly a favorite with a lot of people. I really like the white cheese enchiladas with Chipolte sauce. The verde sauce is good too. They claim the beans are vegetarian, (they are pretty tasty) but the rice is not. There's not too much other than beans and guac for the vegans. The corn tortillas are great and the house margaritas are pretty tasty. I've never gotten anything other than enchiladas partly because there's not much else vegetarian and partly because they are just so good. It is basic, inexpensive, Mexican food a mile from my house. It's not trying to do anything fancy. It is on the loud side and I agree with the assessment of the service, friendly and a bit on the slow side, but it is also nice to have some time to sit and eat and not be rushed. read more

It is more hit than miss, but they do have an off night every once in awhile. Mexican restaurants in this town are a dime a dozen, but this is one of the better ones. You can't just leave us at the table when we're ready to leave! The server promptly brought us the check when requested, telling us "whenever you're ready". I pulled out my VISA card and put it with the check on the table. Considering how busy it was, the amount of time it took for the server to come back for my card was reasonable. But he just brought it to the cashier! The cashier meanwhile gave priority to every customer who came to her to pay, effectively cutting in front of us in line as we waited at the table. This went on for a very long time. Then the restaurant was no longer busy. The server never came back! I only got my card and something to sign when my wife brought it to me. If you want us to go to the cashier, you have to tell us that. You can't just leave us at the table! Rule number one of being a server: pay attention. Or find a better job for yourself. read more

I heart this place. Sure it's not perfect (it's in a strip mall), but I think that's part of why it's so affordable! I love puffy tacos, and my fave place to get them (Amaya's Taco Village) is a bit far for me to drive from my South Austin home. Luckily, La Posada is close by. My favorite thing to order here is the puffy tacos (in fact I think I'll start a puffy taco list) however, if I were you, I'd stay away from the queso. It's super runny, with nothing in it, and it's not very flavorful. This is definitely not the healthiest Mexican food, but that may be a bit of an oxymoron. :-) Also, they don't except AmEx or Discover, so keep that in mind! read more

We love this place. It's not necessarily that the food is spectacular (it's your pretty standard tex mex fare) but more the location and staff. Melanie is almost always our server and she knows us! From the first time we came in she remembered how many of us there were and recognized that we left the kids at home that time. May sound lame but I think it's super cool. This is my favorite hole-in-the-wall mexican place in Austin. It's in a strip mall, but that means there's plenty of parking! The tamales, fajitas, chimichangas, tacos, etc - it's all good. I don't love their regular cheese enchiladas, but the white cheese with green sauce kind are excellent. They keep the beer cold and serve it with frozen insulated mugs and the margaritas are sweet & tasty. The chips are warm and the salsa has a nice kick to it. The service there really is great, too. Everyone is super friendly and most of them have worked there for several years so they know everyone and make you feel welcome and well taken care of. It really makes you feel like you're at a local family place and nothing like a chain. I will say that it's not a great place for people that have only had completely americanized "tex-mex". I took my 60+ year old dad once and he was put off because his enchilada dinner "wasn't like el chico". ugh. But for me, it's all I could ever want in a mexican food joint. A good Tex-Mex place, they offer some things like chile con queso smothered chimichangas you can't get at more interior focused mexican restaurants. The limonada is really good and a good size, it's usually busy which is a good sign. If I'm looking for mexican food a bit more involved than La Tapatia, this is usually the place I go. I absolutely love this place....to the point that you will find me here almost every week. It has become a bit of a neighborhood joint, which I can't complain about at all. The staff is super friendly, the service quick, the salsa fresh, and the food tastes wonderful to me. I usually get the puffy tacos, but try the enchiladas too. What really brings me back is the shredded chicken, whether it be in tacos, burritos, etc.....it is such a flavorful blend of chicken and spices that it just about melts in your mouth. La Posada is definitely one of South Austin's best kept Tex-Mex secrets. Everybody who works here is incredibly friendly. If you eat at La Posada regularly (which you should!), you'll probably end up on a first-name basis with the awesome waitstaff. They really make you feel like family. My parents and have been coming to La Posada for years, and I don't see us stopping any time soon. Besides the fantastic customer service you'll get, the food is great. There's something for just about everybody. Personally, I'm a vegetarian, but I never have trouble finding something delicious and meat-free on the menu. You can't go wrong with any of the enchiladas, but the white cheese with spinach are especially good. And the chile relleno is absolutely amazing. The breading on the outside of the poblano always has just the right amount of crunchiness, and paired with the creamy Monterrey jack inside, it's just indescribable. I highly recommend it. If you're looking for something a bit lighter, the quesadillas and nachos are nice options. And if you're looking for a tasty way to cool off on a hot summer night, La Posada is the perfect place for margaritas. So if you're looking for great Tex-Mex in South Austin, served by some of the nicest people in town, I think La Posada is your best bet. read more

Parking, seating and service were excellent. Our waitress was so incredibly nice. Their menu has plenty of choices, and the one bite of my food that I took was delicious. So so good. But then, as with most kids, one of my kids needed help going to the bathroom. The bathrooms are right by the kitchen, so it can be kind of a busy little area. But then when I went into the bathroom there were roaches. Smaller roaches crawling on the wall. Which really put me off because the kitchen is right there, and it's probably pretty impossible to just have one small rogue roach. So I did not finish my food. Which made me sad, because it was really good. read more
