My friends have told me about this place and how amazing the wet burritos are. They were not lying. The burrito I had was probably top 3 I've had in all of SD. I got a Pollo asado burrito that was filled with meat and was packed with flavor. The wet sauce they out on top was a mix of mild (red sauce) and spicy (green sauce). Came in last night on a Saturday evening around 7ish with a group of 5, no reservations (not sure if they take them tbh). We got seated within about 15-20 minutes for a weekend night I wouldn't say that was too bad. Once seated we were greeted by our server within a few minutes. Such a fun little spot, can't believe it was my first time here. Definitely gotta go back for happy hour 3pm-5pm everyday? CANT BEAT THAT! Food was delicious and drinks were tasty as well. Loved my spicy margarita, I can handle spice and usually I'm disappointed but this one had me shook they don't play with the spice and I love that. Setting/Service: Came in on a busy Saturday night. We were seating quickly and were well taken care of by the staff. Setting is nice, a combo of indoor and outdoor. Comfortable and chill spot to be in Food: I ordered the taco trio with asada, carnitas, and shrimp. Of the three, the standout was the carnitas. Would def come back and get 3 of those. Opened since 2021, this space is way bigger than the downtown location (also easier to park). Bark at the Moon: Touted on the menu for being the best marg on Travel & Leisure and Pop Sugar's Best Margarita in the Country. Is it that good? YASSSS! The fresh lime juice and spicy Jalapeño coupled with the spirit forwardness of this drink is a must try! Chip and guacamole: Piled high with guacamole, chips, salsa, and cubes of panela cheese. Slightly more upscale than the downtown location, but still chill and fun and funky kinda divey/punky Mexican restaurant. All the food was great! We had carnitas, asado, and pastor tacos and they were all excellent (and I'm a snob of all of those kinds of Mexican food proteins). Everything was tasty, flavorful, fresh, and well-prepared. Went to La Puerta for dinner while visiting SD. Found it on yelp and based on the rating decided to visit. Must say I was a bit disappointed overall based on the rating. I realize I am not a southern Californian, but a space heater and fireplace when it was 65 degrees made it a bit warm. Thought the food was overall good. Tacos, quesadillas and burritos. We were disappointed with what we got for the cost. Not much meat in the burrito or the quesadilla. Also drinks were a bit too pricey for the quality. This is a really good Mexican restaurant! I have been to both locations and the food is great at both! The Hillcrest location is a bit newer and has a really cool vibe inside. The place is very well put together, spacious, with a beautiful bar! The drinks are awesome and they have lots to choose from! Service is on point and everyone is really nice. Only bad part is parking.. both locations suck when it comes to parking but thats just San Diego! I have tried lots of options from the menu. Everything is delicious! We recently came in for dinner after a long and tiring day at the SD zoo. Our part of 6+baby was seated pretty quickly, it seemed we had just beat the dinner rush. The restaurant is beautiful with lots of plants and tropical decor. There's an outdoor area that appears to be dog friendly, always a bonus. They have large TVs at the bar to watch sports as well. We tried the guacamole, vegetarian tostadas and burritos. Everything was so good and flavorful and the portions are very generous. I could only eat about half of my burrito. Lots of customizations can be done too like getting fries added or a wet burrito. Service was quick and attentive and staff was friendly.
