Tonight my girlfriend and I had tickets to see a concert at bogarts and we were a bit hungry so we stopped in. The service was quick and the severs were friendly. We ordered Johnny's fried chicken sandwich. The meat's texture was unpleasant. The texture was like biting into a piece of fat or gristle, just gross. We enjoyed the fries and hurried because the show was staring soon. The sandwich was so bad I had to speak with a manager because I felt maybe some feedback might help. I was wrong. The manager came over and first defended it as a best seller. Then he explained, "maybe it was not cooked long enough or it was just a bad chicken breast." He offered to buy us our first round after the concert to make up for it. A nice enough gesture yet neither of us had ordered an alcoholic beverage. I sincerely hope this was a one off experience. Please retrain your management and cooks. Clifton deserves better. read more

My group of 20 friends had made a reservation for dinner, and we had a room all set up for us. The "acoustics" were loud. The owner, Lori, and her staff provided very friendly service, and they even gave us each a bonus gift of a coupon and a goblet to take home! Tyler provided excellent service! 5***** This restaurant / bar is close to UC college and the local music venue, so I realize that is why the menu is mostly meat and cheese and grease, with a few salads that also have cheese - this is the SAD that people have been programmed to eat by the meat & dairy industry. However, I know that some college kids are smart enough to eat healthy, so it would be nice if a black bean burger or a healthy and tasty salad were on the menu. Owner Lori is trying to offer foods that taste good, like her home recipe White Bean Chili, but she said it is cheese based so I could not try it. 2** My friends ordered the TABLETOP S'MORES and it was a fun looking dessert. 4**** I am a Whole Food Plant Based eater (like Vegan, but no added oils, sugars, or processed foods), following the science based research of The China Study book and Forks Over Knives film. Since there was not anything even close to WFPB or even Vegan on the menu, so I would not come back here. I had to leave half the food that I ordered because it was not healthy at all. 1* The place smelled like stale beer upon entering, but after awhile we got used to it. I've been for drinks and dinner, but brunch looks like its worth trying. There on a Monday and had a $5 burger special. It was a great burger (not surprising from the folks who bring us burgers at Woody's). The space is great-they have some outdoor space, an upstairs, and pool tables. I could definitely see this place over run with the college student crowd on this side of campus given the drink and food prices, but the quality is good too, so don't be afraid to give it a shot! Both times I've been there, there's been a pretty diverse crowd. The menu is also fairly diverse-your typical bar food, brunch food, and such, but it's done well and not just all out of a fryer. They seem to change their policies often. I went yesterday and the bottomless mimosas weren't actually bottomless. They cap it at 1 bottle of Champaign per person until there's an extra charge. Bookmark this now!!! John and Lori have hit another home run classic. Much classier and upscale than their Woodies. This place is great for anyone anytime. We had top echelon burgers, soups and salads. Even the desserts were great. Of course good selection of brews and more but best of all is the look/feel and service with this place. First off, I had very low expectations, this location has either been a flop or vacant for about the last 20 years, but I was pleasantly surprised. I do however have to agree with the strong smell of maple syrup. I thought for sure they were baking something, but from the other review mentioning it, it seems to just be their "smell". Anyway, they have a decent beer selection, but could use an updated list (which they acknowledged), I tried ordering 2 different beers and both had been replaced. For food, I had one of the spicy burgers and it was really very good. I was impressed. The fries could have been much more well done, they were pretty white. My buddy ordered the chicken chili and a side salad, he also seemed pretty happy with his meal. I hope they do well and can manage to stay open, as it's nice to have a decent restaurant on this side of campus. read more

We've been here a few times for brunch and enjoyed it. However, this time was less impressive. Cons: Bloody Marys were mediocre. When one of us ordered decaf, we were told they were all out. Okay, no big deal. But then I ordered regular coffee, and when I asked for a refill (to drink when my food came) I was told they were all out of filters and the manager was picking some up. Never did get any more. No coffee for brunch?? Unheard of. Had to ask for silverware and some of the food was not hot and had to be reheated. Pros: Food was delicious (even without coffee and once it was hot), the server was terrific and comped me my coffee when I asked. He also made sure the umbrella was fixed so the sun was not in our eyes. Summary: Cooks and servers - Fabulous! Management- Get your act together. read more

Hasn't started off well. Sat for 25 minutes without anyone helping me. I finally stood up and waved my arms LITERALLY. the server came over and apologized. She said I sat down at a broken table that they really don't use. I guess I was supposed to know that through my mental powers. Server came back and apologized again. I ordered a cup of the Chef's Signature Chili. I was served a cup of the White Chicken Chili. It was good. Very cheesy and creamy. I typically prefer white chicken chili that isn't cream based. But I was happy with the flavor and large pieces of shredded chicken. The cornbread was ok. Nothing special. Service disappeared again for awhile. I finally got tired of waiting and asked for the check. $7.38 bill. No discount or comp to try and get me back. They really dropped the ball. Went for the bottomless mimosa brunch with a group of ten. Our server Kristen was probably the best I've ever had anywhere. She was extremely attentive and accommodating to our whole group and she worked her hardest to make our brunch great. And it was until we were rudely kicked out by the manager due to false information. Which is why I'm giving a 2 star review. The manager did not give us a reason for kicking us out until we bothered him, and even when we told him we were not the people who caused a mess, we were given pretty dismissive attitudes. My fiancé and I went to try it because it's near his work and looked like a good menu. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the absolute nicest guy I have ever met. He provided such great service just in getting us seated and going over the menu that I probably would've written a 5-star review even if the food was awful. Which is wasn't. We got buffalo dip and burgers and it was some of the best stuff we've eaten since moving to Cincinnati. Finally, a woman (Lori?) came to check on us and she was ALSO the nicest human I've ever met. This review is for the restaurant part of this place only. I think it would definitely make a better bar than restaurant. I ate there for lunch at around 11:30 and when I first walked in my feet were sticking to the floor due to what I'm assuming was spilled drinks of some sort from the night before. Then the table we sat at was also sticky. Then to top it off my glass and silverware were both dirty... I ordered the lunch special which was a 5oz burger which was overcooked and dry along with run of the mill Saratoga chips. The good: Our server was awesome! Fantastic! I've only ever been here for brunch but it is easily the best deal in the city. $20 gets you a meal & bottomless mimosas or bloody mary's. I generally start with couple bloodies to get the morning started, then I move on to some mimosas for dessert. The Bloody Mary's seem to come garnished with either a pickle, a celery stick, or olives...or any random assortment of the three. They are typically just spicy enough to burn your throat a little bit, without feeling too unpleasant. The mimosas are also very good. I don't know what kind of champagne they use but sometimes I taste a subtle hint of vanilla flavor in with the orange juice & bubbly. As for the people claiming to have been cut off after so many drinks...I've never had that happen or seen that happen to anyone. And I've stayed there for hours and hours on multiple occasions continually drinking upwards of 9-10+ drinks. If you keep your composure and enjoy the atmosphere without getting rowdy, no one will bother you or try to cut you off. I'm sure there is a reasonable other side to whoever's story that was. Anyway, back to the review: the food. The Southwest skillet is my go-to favorite! An amazing blend of chorizo, onions, peppers, fried potatoes, and an egg (prepared to your liking). It also comes with some kind of relish, but I'm not a fan of it. I usually ask them to hold it off. As huge fan of brunch, this is one of the best deals in the city. If I could give zero stars I would. It wasn't poor service. It was zero service. After sitting down, we waited for at least 5 minutes before we had to get up and remind someone we were waiting to be served. After getting our water, we waited another 15 minutes while we watched our server chat with his buddies at the table next to us. Did not even acknowledge us. I finally got up to (again) remind someone we were waiting to order. The person at the bar went to find yet another server who was chatting with the same group of kids at the table next to us, she looked at us, then walked in the opposite direction without acknowledging us. We came here for a group outing after a meeting. We were given the front area along the windows (this was arranged ahead of time for our group). There were about 20 of us ordering drinks and food, so I'm sure it was pretty chaotic, but between the 2 servers and bartender, we had WONDERFUL service. They were attentive and fast, in spite of how many people as we had in our group. I ordered the bacon goetta fries - they were awesome, but next time I'll be sure to ask for some extra ranch as there wasn't enough. Mondays are a great day to come - free pool all day, the Ladder Classic Burger is only $5 until 9 pm, and they have $10 buckets of beers. Ladder 19 - Bacon goetta cheese fries - American Near Me - Cincinnati, Ohio

A buddy of mine and I couldn't resist the draw to this place. Both of us have fire service ties, so to grab a drink at a retired city firehouse just felt like home. Love the fact that they kep a lot of the firehouse details and charm. Sitting in the "Bell Room" up front was great, tables right underneath the arched openings to the old apparatus floor. The company was organized in 1871 and originally just a Steam Engine Co., but they added a ladder just months later. The company moved up Vine Street and left this building behind in 1968. Nice to see a business pay homage to this buildings important past. We went on a weeknight, and with nothing going on at Bogart's further down Short Vine, the place was empty. Our waitress was also our bartender and she was great. She definitely added to the charm of the place. The burgers looked the most interesting, so we took a chance on Uncle Woody's Ragin Cajun and a Wake N' Bacon. My buddy really liked the Ragin Cajun, said it had good kick to it. My Wake N' Bacon was a great concept- breakfast and a burger all on one bun. I think if the potato pancake or even the egg had been seasoned a bit more, it would have been much better. Instead it was, well it was just OK. The Bacon Goetta Fries, however, had me restraining myself from licking the plate. I'd go back for just those. Now, we were told that they were a "bourbon bar." Their Bourbon Trail looks interesting (and I'll have to try it on a return visit), but I have a hard time calling a bar a bourbon bar when there is nary a bottle of Blanton's or Booker's or even Willett to be found. Fireball on tap does not a whiskey/bourbon bar make. There was a decent selection of craft brews, though. I imagine on a busier night, this is probably a fun a popular little hangout. The bar takes up space on the old apparatus floor, so with the towering ceiling the acoustics are a bit loud. They also offer a brunch with bottomless Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's. We'll bring the wives on a return visit for that. read more

Came here for Burger Week and so far we have waited 90 minutes for our food. The appetizer we ordered came out at 45 minutes and was cold. I realize you are busier than normal but when every other table around us that was seated after us is already gone there is an issue. The burgers were okay and actually hot when they came out. I've been twice for lunch. Creative pub menu in a cool vintage fire house. The first time I had the Wake N Bacon, a bacon cheeseburger topped with egg and bottomed with a hashbrown and adorned with a Cajun aioli. The second time, I had an off menu beer-cheese burger and it was sloppily delicious. Lori, the owner, treats her guests super well and genuinely wants to make sure your visit is the best one you've had. If you're in the Clifton area around lunch time, check this place out and skip the lines at the breakfast establishment across the street or the pizza joint next door. This place will smother your smouldering hunger better than most places on Short Vine, in a classic funky location with a menu true to its surroundings. read more

This place is pretty great for brunch or just grabbing a beer near campus. I have been a few times but want to speak to their bottomless mimosa brunch we went to recently. We came in ready to have a fun in the sun day drinking type of day and LOVED that they brought the 4 of us pitchers instead of the endless "find the waiter and get another" type deal. We were drawn in by the $15 price tag for food and drinks, and were not disappointing. To add food its just another $4 from their brunch menu, but I decided to go for their Brunch Burger which was $9, making my bill $24 instead of $19 but HOLY HELL IT IS WORTH IT! I have reoccurring dreams of the egg, the goetta, the sausage, the hash browns, the burger all on a delicious bun dancing in my mouth.... YUM! The place is pretty clean, its a regular bar setting, but well worth coming to try it out! read more

The owner came out and asked how she could help us, we told her we were waiting for a table and she immediately put a table together for us then and there. The service was superb. This was my first and last experience with this restaurant. I had heard good things about this place and was optimistic that my experience would be a good one, but it could not have been more of the opposite. Upon arrival, my wife and I were given the option of sitting at the bar or upstairs. There were tables downstairs, but I assumed they were short staffed and not filling those tables so we chose to sit upstair, not wanting to eat at the bar. We sat upstairs by ourselves for a good 20 minutes before actually being waited on. After we ordered, it took an hour for a simple burger and some bacon and eggs. Our waiter only came to check on us once and we watched as he continued attending to all the college girls the entire time, clearly not caring about the old couple upstairs. Our food finally arrived and was unsurprisingly cold, and we decided to just take it home. It still took another 15 minutes to flag down our waiter to get boxes and a check. To put the final nail in the coffin of this horrible experience, we cane downstairs to leave and found the tables that were unoccupied when we arrived, filled with people that had already been served food. This was supposed to be a simple Sunday afternoon meal, and i stead turned into one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. We will never step foot in this place again! read more

Bad service, bad food. There were a ton of bees by where we were sitting (indoors by the garage doors that were up to let fresh air in) and I got stung by a bee while eating. They really need to take care of the bee problem. I ordered the yogurt with granola and got yogurt with walnuts. I'm not sure who they think they're kidding substituting walnuts for granola or why they think that would be good. Thank God those mimosas were bottomless, I needed a drink after this horrible dining experience. read more
