For Sis and I, this is our favorite macaron place. We discovered it on a walking food tour of Seattle and we recently went back with friends. They had a cool $5 deal for a macaron and glass of champagne. It was a nice dessert deal to follow up a nice lunch. The servers were not so friendly this time. They weren't mean or anything, but a little disinterested. We got our treat and our bubbly, crowded around one of the tables and I like to think that others saw us and thought it looked fun, because the small shop soon was crowded with other customers taking advantage of the $5 deal, so the champagne was flowing. I like also that they used real stemware and they served the macaron on a small stone cutting board, so that upped the experience. When the shop started getting crowded, it made the place fun, but maybe I'm thinking that because we got a table since we were first, lol. The macarons are very comparable and made with care. Macarons are pricey, but that's nothing surprising. It's not unique to Lady Yum so if you're not big into macarons, be warned (but still get some). I got a 15 piece classic with passionfruit. I ordered 2 watermelon but they ran out sadly. Because I ordered online, they weren't able to tell me and so they substituted with 3 more passionfruit! A note was written on my bag to alert me. While visiting Seattle, my daughter discovered this place on Yelp and I told her I would get some. I figured I would make it in time, but ended up running the opposite direction. After stumbling, calling an answering machine (aka voicemail), stumbling through a safety test for a rental e-scoot, and discovering I was breaking Seattle's helmet laws, I made it it Lady Yum. Being five after closing, i didn't have high hopes. After a few minutes of desperate begging and relearning how to zoom my second freshly shattered iPhone screen, the lovely lady answered my prayers. I severely underpaid for these as they are THE BEST macaroons that I have ever tasted. Truth be told, the blue sprinkled one is the only one I had a nibble of, but the blueberry (oh I hope they are) really comes through. The presentation is outstanding, even though I think I crushed them on my ride back. My daughter was crushed as well when I told her she could only have one tonight. And after her desperate pleading I decided to give her another half, since I was afforded the same generosity by the lovely lady of Lady Yum. LIFE CHANGING experience here. Like the food critic in Ratatouille being brought back to his childhood, the Unicorn took me back to the first fresh, faintly crispy warm bite of cotton candy. The Peppermint Bark is somehow crispy like crushed mint and creamy like the bark. The salted caramel was the first I tried and it's so far above any previous macaroon I've had that I just couldn't believe the texture of the cookie itself. The 100% caramel filling instead of an icing is the only way I want a salted caramel macaron. I've heard of them for a long while but gave them a try when I learned they were a local small business, and not a chain. I had some trouble ordering on my phone so I called Bree a couple of times and she helped me through the site so I could pick up the next day. After the s'mores, the lemon, the oatmeal cookie that gives you lil' Debbie oatmeal pie vibes, the shindig my daughter is already addicted to, we are already planning our next order and who gets to have these 'round the country as our Christmas treat because we love them the MOST!
