My friends and I ventured out for a cold winter brunch yesterday. We had a reservation and thankfully they were able to seat me before everyone else arrived. They sat us in a corner, which was a little cold because of the window but okay in general. The staff was very helpful in providing recommendations based on food allergies, but they should have more gf alternatives (swapping bread isn't that hard). We tried the Avo Toast, chik'n n waffles and French toast. Personally I had the French toast and lovedddd the vegan whipped cream, wow. The fruit on top added a little extra too. I also had an apple pie. latte- delicious, but I really wish it could be hot. Please get an espresso machine! And please get syrup dispensers! My friend griped paying $6 for regular hot coffee. Saw the great reviews and decided to check this place out- definitely worth it! We ordered the tofu bao bun, po boy bao bun, KFB, and grilled cheese. The KFB was incredible I HIGHLY recommend!! We really enjoyed the bao buns too- the cauliflower on the po boy was crispy and the tofu bun was well seasoned. The grilled cheese was just ok- I think we were too stuffed the time it came out as well. We also got the pink ringneck cocktail and it was pretty good, not very strong since it is wine based. Smack yourself in the face again for engaging in animal torture when you realize how incredible food can taste without participating in the torture and cruelty of animals. The champagne and artichoke fondue is actually a thing and the waiter almost lost her fingers taking the empty plates. The eggplant with tomato whatever and cheese something was superb. I had a basil lemonade drink and I absolutely loved the decorated paper straw and that they use paper straws. The ambience is gorgeous. The velvet green chairs and mirrored bar are elegant. It's unfortunate that you can't break up a rating from service to food quality particularly when it comes to vegan food. The waitress, though sweet, couldn't be reached if you shouted which we did. This, despite the place being empty. Their starting suggestion of a 20% tip with 2 percent increments up to 24% is just obscene and presumptuous. The distracted service and the tip demand results in 4 rather than 5 stars but the food alone is off the charts. read more

This place's hostess doesn't know how to make reservations or give guidelines for one. When we called the restaurant while at work in NYC downtown at 6.45 pm, the lady mentioned you can come in. Neither she mentioned about the wait list on phone nor she took our names to list. And then after an hour we show up at the restaurant , after taking train and Uber ride, the hostess happily says no walk-ins. And she also says on the face that wait time is 2 hours and even though bar was empty looks like they have a waitlist for 1 hour there. What is that! Don't they understand What we spoke on phone or what! Worst hosts! May be the reviews everyone rave about, or may be people of our kind the host does not want to entertain. I am sure this review will be trashed just like any other review and only the 5 star reviews are at the top. There is no value for time nor there is value on what they talk. I'm an omnivore, but the food here was awesome. The atmosphere here is definitely more romantic and date-like, with chandeliers and upholstered white seats. I love the unique selection of cocktails, and the interesting spread of small plates style dishes. Three of the four dishes I got were deep-fried, which I wasn't expecting. And I guess injecting a bunch of fat into food makes it tasty. For food, I had: - buffalo maitake buns: the maitake was battered and deep-fried to a light and tender crisp. The buffalo sauce and pickled celery added some great flavor. Would definitely do this again. - mushroom and onion toast: the toast was a little large and unwieldy - I think they should have used smaller toast slices. But the flavor was good. I love mushrooms, anyway. - loaded potatoes: these were a bit too starchy for me, and it was yet another deep-fried dish. It was lacking in flavor for me, and I would've liked more sauce/savoriness. - brussel sprouts: this was really yummy. Again, yet another deep fried dish, but the soy truffle vinagrette was a little sour, a little sweet, and went well with the apple and endive matchsticks. - strawberry cheesecake: not worth the calories, it didn't have a cheesy flavor and was more like a strawberry flavored mousse. Since it was my first time dining there I couldn't decide on what to order. The waiter gave some good suggestions and since I was pretty hungry I went for the heavier dish of truffle Mac n cheese. OMG! Made to perfection! That ooey gooey cheese made me wonder is this really vegan?? Loved the crunchy bread crumbs on top. They provide silverware in sealed plastic and I even got a steel straw to use and keep. Hand sanitizer is at every table and they try to keep tables distanced. I enjoyed my outdoor dining experience based on the service I received from the attentive waiter. They seem to be busy all the time. Booking reservations can be tough and there is a strict cancellation policy. However, dine on your own and go early so you might get in easily! If you really love it then maybe book a future reservation. On the pricey side, but nice for a special occasion or date night. The drinks looked beautiful too. Hope to dine inside sometime. My partner and I couldn't finish what we ate, and both had stomach aches despite not eating a lot. We got the kale caesar salad and the tempura fried broccoli. Flavor wise I'd recommend the grapefruit bittern. it was tropical and citrusy. The drinks had really low alcohol percentages to it. I felt a buzz but my friend didn't feel anything. Ladybird is the kind of place that you'd imagine is pretentious, but it couldn't be farther from that. The cutest decor, super warm and welcoming but also great open windows in the summer. The menu isn't overwhelming , even at dinner, and the almost tapas style approach means you can order a bunch of different vegan plates to try. We had the loaded potatoes (small but good for two), the mushroom toast (largest dish - very hearty), Mac and cheese balls (also large - food for four), and buffalo maitake buns (two buns but so good you might want to order an extra serving!) The rest of the menu looked great as well, and the late night has many of the same standouts as the dinner menu. Nicely crafted cocktails, friendly and fast service, and an overall great experience. The kind of place you'd want to be a regular at, and meet up with a special person at the bar. Also a great vegan date night spot!
