OUTSTANDING customer service. Recently hubby bought some paint a few days before the sale ad come out. I called ACE and spoke to a Manager named DJ. I asked if they comp customers within a certain amount of days if they purchased paint at full price (we purchased 2 of the gallon paints) and it goes on sale a few days later. DJ stated he would have to get back with me, took my number and said he would have to call me back. Dj called back within 24 hours and stated YES Ace would comp us the difference between the regular price and sale price. The process was a smooth one and we got no hassle while doing so. Friendly service, knowledgeable staff and many products to chose from! Pretty pots to exotic plants. I am new on the mountain and part time. So trying to prep & plant without killing new plants isn't easy but the staff listened to my concerns and answered many questions I had. Decent selection and fair prices too. I bought some herbs for kitchen window garden for now. The helpful staff suggested I buy a water moisture product to help keep plants from drying out in between watering. I planted them three weeks ago and so far so good. I followed the directions on package as recommended by the staff. Today I used some Mint I bought with cut oranges and some Basil I bought with strawberries to infuse two pitchers of water. Yum! I recommend this Ace Hardware / Garden shop to anyone on the mountain. read more

Lake Drive Ace Hardware has been so very helpful with our current remodel of our homes exterior. They have a very knowledgeable staff and a decent selection of materials. Their prices are a little higher than Lowe's and Home Depot but it saves us in gas to get the one or two items we need at Ace rather than drive down the hill. I am really surprised at the harsh reviews of Ace Hardware. I find this to be an amazing little hardware store in Crestline and I am very, very glad it is there. I'm surprised at the selection of items they have considering their tiny size. I'm sure the entire place would fit into one tiny department at your average Home Depot. One of the tires on my snow thrower came off of the wheel during a recent heavy snow. Their snow thrower mechanic, Jake, cheerfully told me how to remove the wheel over the phone. When I brought in the wheel, Jake looked at it, said "I'll be right back" and disappeared. Less than 3 minutes later (not an exaggeration) he returned with the wheel fixed and a smile on his face. I've shopped here nearly 25 years because the staff really is helpful. The store packs a lot into a small space. My favorite part is the room with all the washers, nuts, bolts and other small hardware sold individually -- huge selection, and you buy only what you need. I've also found items I didn't expect to see, such as canning jars, and I've gotten good advice on solving dilemmas particular to my home and yard. With this said, it has lately become beneficial to consult home-repair guides, look at repair videos and visit the Ace website before going to the store, because some of the new staff aren't well versed in DIY projects or products. I did things backward this morning, hearing first at the store that I'd probably have to call a specialist to do my plumbing repair, then steaming home to watch a video with step-by-step instructions for what will amount to a five-minute job costing less than $10. The garden center across the street, which is part of Lake Drive Hardware, is worth a mention: good selection of just about everything, lots of perennials, plenty of xeriscape choices, and staff that can advise on mountain gardening issues, such as how to avoid feeding your garden to hungry gophers. It also holds monthly gardening seminars on Saturdays during the good-weather months. Forgot to mention the live cam at the website, where you can see two informational necessities of mountain life: much snow has fallen and how busy the parking lot is at the post office. read more

Bought some paint there for a kitchen project. When I got it home I realized it didn't match the color sample I got from their paint Dept. When I tried to return it they agreed that it didn't match but I would have to come back another time as their mixing machine wasn't working. I went back the next day and they told me the reason it didn't match was because I bought Semi Gloss paint and the color chip was Flat. They should be able to match the color samples from their own displays regardless of the finish. Stuck with more paint I can't use. read more

The customer service is horrible.!!!!! I've had 2 visit to this store, both times the hill billy clerks were rude !! The lady at the counter threw the pen at me to sign my paper work As she coughed in my face with her hacking smokers cough . The other attendant in the paint department the one with the bad dye 70's style hair , she had a rude comment when I had a simple question. This is a fabulous hardware store. I have had several opportunities to shop here recently as we are building a new deck. EVERY time I walk into their door I had some knowledgeable employee ask if they could help me! It is like you have your own personal shopper. This woman doesn't know much about hardware, but, that has never been a problem at Ace Hardware in Crestline, they have the answers. This experience makes a visit to Home Depot or Lowes, painful! Prices seem pretty competitive, however, seeing that it is so convenient and offers such a pleasant experience, if it is a little more, it is worth it. read more

Took some paint in to get colored. On my way there my kiddos fell asleep in the car, so I parked and peaked my head in the door to ask for some help. A young man named Dan came to help. He took my paint in the store while I waited outside. He came outside to discuss options and updated me while I was waiting and when it was done, brought my paint back out and put it in the car. He was extremely helpful and friendly. Made my life easy by being able to stay in the car with sleeping kids, rather than wake my monsters and drag them inside. It's always nice when an employee goes out of their way to make life a little easier. Very appreciative!! read more

They always have what we need there, and answer any questions. I love going there. At Home Depot there is no one around to help. I just moved to the area and this has become my go to shop for hardware. The prices are just as good as any hardware store, but the staff in the hardware and garden centers are extremely friendly, and helpful. The first time I went in was to get a new flex hose for my dryer. Customer service found the parts I needed, explained to me how the installation would go, and they were right on. I've been back many times and it's a great example of what a local neighborhood shop should be. read more

Overpriced...extremely rude staff! There are much better places to go on the mountain than this place. I would rather drive down the hill than shop here ever again. I was in the other day and noticed that the plants in the nursery are 3 times the price than other places! The woman at the counter seemed confused and was not helpful at all. This place has an excellent paint department, most of the staff is really helpful, although ordering online be careful save printed receipts. I ordered a sink online with fixture,trap and supply hoses.I only received the sink and was charged to buy the rest.The supplier sent me the missing part of my order-so where did the rest go who knows? read more

I have a problem with one rude employee. I ask a question and she says "I don't know." And that's it!! I go elsewhere because she is always there at the register and sent me away once when I was trying to get a copy of a key. She also asked me once for a pin on my credit card that didn't have one. Then she wouldn't let me use the card. It turned out the bank wanted to verify some unusual charges but she acted as if I stole the card!!! I stopped coming here. read more

Went to rental yard today, checked out equipment with attendant Clark, very polite and helpful, when I returned equipment to attendant Jacob, different story, looked like no employees around to check in, two men sitting on tailgate of truck, thought were customers waiting, since employees do not wear typical red ace vests at rental yard, I came out and turns out one of the tailgaters was employee, seemed upset he had to get up and take equipment, complained, yanked equipment off my vehicle, complained about safety chains not having hooks-(no hooks on when rented) had to wrap chain around hitch to make it work. After listening to him complain about why it was hooked up that way, very unprofessional. I went to cashier to say I did not have to be treated this way, that attendant was angry, He came in and changed his tune. Nice! This Ace has some very helpful employees, but there is no excuse for the attitude toward customers. Next time will rent from Lake Arrowhead rentals. read more
