Sadly this isn't going to be a complimentary review. It has been a long time since I tried to dine at such a dirty location - from the bathroom to the dining area. I don't think there was one clean spot - including the framed photos and memorabilia on the wall. Upon entering the bathroom, the open stall was filthy. The seat had urine all over it - as did the floor. I had my hands full but had no where I felt was clean to set anything. There is no excuse for an established restaurant to operate like this - none! My family and I came out here as we have for the last 10 years. I'm not one to complain however this is a completely different place than it was 10 years ago. We waited 2 hours. Which was our decision I can't argue that. Our waiter was very nice and kind. However the sides that were going around we few and far between. Well we were looking for a place to eat. It was after 7. We are from the Midwest. My son said hey Lamberts. So we went. It was an hour wait but then IT WAS Sunday.... The food was as good as we expected.... Service was great. The pass arounds even at 9pm (their closing time) were like it was 2 in the afternoon. These guys were packed at closing time and they were still tossing rolls like champs. I went to the stand when we left and told em you guys made us feel like we were in Ozark. First off, this is one of the most fun restaurants I have been to and the food is absolutely ABUNDANT! The staff are fun and attentive. They literally THROW their delicious rolls to you (don't worry they will hand them to you if you prefer). They are light and fluffy and HUGE. They come around with all kinds of sides that you can have unlimited quantities of like fried okra and fried potatoes. I did remove one star because I make announcements amazing chicken fried steak that is hard to compare to but the food was more than acceptable. Try the Cucumber Salad...it may sound like and odd choice but it is lightly pickled and delicious. AN did I mention fun? They will make announcements over the loud speaker if you are there for a special occasion. We were there for my Friend's birthday and I told them to announce his birthday and the fact that he was accepting free birthday hugs as he was "single and ready to mingle". They did it and some of the staff actually came over to hug him. The decor is unique and I could spend hours looking around and visiting the gift shop as well. Everytime we come to orange beach we always make a trip to Lambert's. The vibe is laid back and family oriented. The throwing of the rolls is fun and the pass arounds are a nice touch. I love Lambert's Cafe!!! Such a fun atmosphere, mainly for kids. My husband doesn't care for his roll being thrown across the room. But, I get a kick out of it. Don't know of any other place where you see that. And talk about the rolls, Yummy and huge!! They serve delicious in-house apple butter and molasses (one of my favorite sweet treats in the world) to go with them. You will not leave this place hungry! My husband thinks it's a "trough" kind of place where you get way too much food. I'm like, keep me at the trough, and keep serving me. I don't mind overstuffing myself a bit on all the fix'ens bc they are so so good. Can order an entree to include the pass arounds, or just order the pass arounds. I usually get BBQ Pork Steak with your choice of 3 sides and all of Lambert's pass arounds. I see why it's one of Lambert's top sellers. I've dined here with several people whom have all gotten different things, which I've tasted (and they are ALL good.) I know i can order anything on the menu, and it be better than home-cooking. All the sides are good too. You can choose from sides shown in pic taken from Lambert's website. I've also included a picture of their Pass-arounds from their website too. It was too much for me to list. I particularly like the potatoes and onions & macaroni and tomatoes. The majority must like all these pass arounds, as much as me, bc they are sometimes slow to come around. The service is good, but this place stays packed with patrons, so you have to be patient for your turn. That's another thing that bothers my husband. He doesn't care for crowds and likes quiet atmospheres. So, this isn't the kind of place for him. Plus, he likes to get in and get out, as quick as possible. I could come everyday, sit back as long as it takes, and enjoy the company, along with goooooood food! Tips: 1)Either get there when they first open, or plan on waiting a long time for a table. 2)Drink containers are huge, so you probably won't want a refill. 3)No fresh lemons, only lemon juice in packages at the table. 4) Pass around(s) are served on paper towels. 5)Be prepared, rolls are in the air everywhere. But, the throwers have pretty good aim. Once again, Lambert's surpassed expectations and delivered a succulent feast. Friends came to town and wanted to meet for a nice lunch. In Foley, the first eatery that came to mind was of course, Lambert's. We chose a late lunch at 2:00 pm to allow the crowds to thin out and it worked fine. Service was impeccable with no wait for anything. Drinks were delivered and we already had hot toss rolls and samples of delicious fried okra. Meals came fast and our discerning guests were thrilled. Our table ordered BBQ ribs, chicken fried steak, chicken fingers, and liver and onions. More rolls arrived, then more okra, and black eyed peas made the rounds. Smiles on every face as we stuffed ourselves. As we were leaving our guests announced that their return trip would include a stop in Foley and another meal at Lambert's. I wondered what home of the thrown rolls was but when they yell "hot rolls" and throw you hand up, they will throw a roll at you and that was an experience that I will never forget. The ambiance was perfect. This was if you went to your hometown and ate at your own home. The atmosphere was really friendly to people that aren't from Alabama. I ordered the broiled chicken breast, and my wife had the catfish. Both dishes were cooked perfectly and tasted absolutely delicious. This is not our first visit to Lambert's in Foley. In fact, we've been here several times over the past year, which speaks highly of the food, service, and ambiance. If I had taken the time to review this location on one of my previous visits it would have rated at least four stars, if not five. Tonight however our server was quite unpleasant. She was short, curt, and seemingly unhappy to have to wait on us. We ordered our meals, half of which were served by our waitress, following the first half served my another server. The meals were good, as always. The place was clean, the decor was fun, and the patrons all seemed to be enjoying themselves. I have passed by that place for the last 25 years while vacationing here with my friends and family, and since moving to area in 2014. I had the most fun, and the most delicious food I've had in a long time. Just last week was my very first visit. I always assumed it was just a tourist trap. It was so entertaining watching the employees. The service was impeccable, the employees were so respectful and truly seemed to enjoy their job. How refreshing is that? THE ROLLS ARE DELICIOUS- Everything else was just so so. Definitely more of an experience than a great dining option. I mean it's old and just nostalgic for many- but it feels old in a less than taken good care of way- not dirty- just old- not cool historic old- just kinda sad old- like a fun pioneer theme park attraction that in its hey day of the 80's was probably pretty beat and fun- but now- just kinda lacking. That being said- it is busy- so known going in - you'll wait. We arrived around 4 (before dinner rush)- and only had to wait 15-20 minutes- we waited outside under covered porch near the "gift shop" (if you want to call it that- it felt even more old and forgotten about than the actual restaurant)- once they called our name- we had to then go inside and stand in line again to wait to be seated- (the entrance way is definitely something- pretty much a memory wall of deceased family members and old wood) - finally seated- the space is crammed. It felt chaotic and messy and the booths were so tightly packed in that we hardly had any room to ourselves. - like everyone was sitting on top of each other- Our server/as well as most of the other staff that interacted with us seemed less than thrilled about any of it and was just kinda mediocre service at best. Lots of food on the menu and we ordered a variety of different items- and while portions are big- the food itself was just not that good- I ordered ham steak, sweet potato and green beans, others at the table ordered the meatloaf, fried pork chop, chicken tenders, & fried chicken. The sides were all very delicious, but not sure any of us actually ate more than half of any of our meals- my ham steak was not salty & had an odd sour smokiness to it- my sweet potato was perfect though. One of the things the place is know for is the "passed side dishes" that are "complimentary" with ordered meals- the list included black eyed peas, tomato macaroni salad, fried potatoes, fried okra and apple butter. - the sides weren't offered very often/willingly- we actually had to flag someone down to try and sample them - the okra and tomato salad were both bland and unseasoned. The fried potatoes were actually worth the hype and the apple butter was definitely a high light for me- The other thing they are known for is "thrown rolls" and as this is there claim to fame- at least they live up to the hype with it- the rolls are piping hot from the kitchen- wheeled out on carts of cast iron baking pans- and then literally thrown to you- want a roll- just get a guys attention, put your hands up and catch! And the rolls are really really really good - so overall- this place is so all over the place with ups and downs I can't say if it's really worth it or not- I mean I guess you have to use a pros/cons list to decide if it's really worth making it a stop on your trip- My pros and cons would be: **CONS: sucky dining atmosphere, long wait time, main courses are mediocre at best **PROS: the rolls are GOOD, the apple butter was GOOD, most of the sides I tried were good, large beverage servings of really good iced tea, the experience is kitchy and could be fun for kids Do with that what you will. read more

I've lived near Lambert's for many, many years and had never tried them because I thought they'd be like a glorified (pricey) version of Cracker Barrel. CB has a decent breakfast - but I'd never eat there for lunch or dinner (I have, but wouldn't do it again). Well, I finally broke down and tried Lambert's. And it's kinda like a glorified Cracker Barrel - except with very good food AND service. Still a noisy and hectic atmosphere - but it's more upbeat and enjoyable. First - those "throwed" rolls ARE pretty dang good. I can usually stop at half a roll - but these were so good, I ate 3! Try the apple butter and try the molasses - even if one or the other doesn't sound good - try them both. Lots of country favorites - done in a high volume, but consistent manner. I got the BBQ ribs and wifey got the fried chicken. We both agreed that we liked our choices so much that it would be hard to try something else next time. (Even though we saw some other things that looked pretty darn good, too!) The only downside is - this is a pig out meal! You're not gonna leave hungry but, will definitely leave stuffed!! Don't go here if you're watching your weight!! This will be an occasional cheat spot for us - and I regret not going here sooner.
