I'm a sucker for homestyle 'comfort food.' Ask a local where to eat whenever you can. I was traveling with friends and we visited for lunch. Not only did the local from the gas station recommend this place, I checked it out on Yelp too. The service was friendly and the food was ok. Nothing to write home about...but good nonetheless. Would I stop in again? Yeah. But I wouldn't make a special trip for it either. By far the best hamburger I have had in years. Stopped by this dinner while running routes and ordered a bacon cheeseburger all the way and fries. It was outstanding. First trip to this little local restaurant was for breakfast. If you are looking for a tasty home cooked breakfast at a very reasonable price this is the place. It reminded me of Waffle House but with better food and prices. I got a western omelette and a pancake. It was good! Definitely is a place for locals, they call diners by name when they come in and the waitress I had couldn't have been friendlier. If I had been in the area longer I definitely would have went back again and tried their lunch! read more

So this was my second attempt at my birthday dinner. We were staying in town for three days and the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed for New Years Day. We'd already tried The Diner, which had waitresses with horrible attitudes and no vegetarian options. We walked into the Lamppost and the staff was very friendly. We were able to seat ourselves and our waitress came over with menus. We ordered water and looked over the menu. No vegetarian options. Again. The waitress came back to see if we were ready to order and I asked if there was anything vegetarian besides sides of vegetables. She said they had salad. Any vegetarian knows that a salad is not a vegetarian meal. That is a last resort to be able to say you offer a vegetarian option, when what you really have is a glorified appetizer. I told her as much and she said the salads were huge. I repeated that I did not want just a salad for dinner. She said they had nothing else and asked me if I wanted to continue looking over the menu. I stated that there would be no point as we had already discovered there was nothing for me to eat. She then turned to my husband to see what he wanted and was stunned to find out he wouldn't be ordering anything either. I had to explain to her that since there was nothing for me to eat, my husband obviously would not be having dinner without me, in front of me, and that we obviously had to leave and find a restaurant that did have a vegetarian choice. She then asked me what I normally eat. I told her most restaurants will have a veggie burger, a pasta dish, etc. Even a grilled veggie sandwich. The fact is there is a lot of vegetarian choices that restaurants can offer if they cared to. This was our second restaurant of the night and I left in tears because I was so frustrated. I was generous with two stars - simply because the staff seemed friendly enough. As I said on my review of The Diner - I understand this is the south, but it is the year 2016 - having a vegetarian option is really kind of expected. read more

We had the specials BBQ chicken and meatloaf with sides. The meatloaf was ok, as was the chicken. Mac and cheese as one of the sides, and it was horrible. Way too much tasteless cheese. Also coleslaw wasn't great. Baked beans and corn were alright. Cobblers were decent, but didnt seem fresh. We stopped by this place on our way back to Atlanta. The placed was packed with locals, always a good sign. I had the special, meatloaf, it was homemade with big chunks of onion and a spicy ketchup based sauce. I got the creamed corn and beans. My husband had the catfish with hushpuppies and my kid had the hot dog. I think my meal was the best, but all were happy. I liked how they brought out the kids meal as soon as it was cooked, a full kid is easier to deal with. The hot dog and fries were nothing special, but I loved the meatloaf and my husband was very pleased with the fish. The portions were HUGE and the three of us ate for less than $25. There is not much in Madionville, but if you are passing through, pick this over any of the fast food chains along the way. Good food, nice service and happy customers. We just stopped by for breakfast and it was just your normal country breakfast. The atmosphere was ok...like walking into your grandmothers house who hasn't updated since she moved in. Our waitress was extremely nice and attentive. I got scrambled eggs with cheese,bacon,and biscuits and gravy and they were all pretty good. Think crackle barrel but with the authenticity of your actual grandmothers cooking. I will definitely go back just to try their waffle fries because they looked absolutely delicious!! read more

I've only ate at this establishment once, a few years ago. The building itself was very old and in dire need of repairs, not necessarily remodeling, but repairs, like ceiling stains from obvious leaks, etc. The food looked cafeteria grade at best, but I didn't eat after seeing dozens of cockroaches in the restroom when I went to wash my hands for the meal. read more
