I used to really enjoy this restaurant, especially after the interior was refurbished. We are (were) loyal local patrons. Fast forward to two Sundays ago. About 6:30pm. Hardly anybody in the restaurant. We sat in the back near the TV's. 10 minutes to take our drink order. 15 minutes to take our food order. 45 minutes to get our cold food. We got up to walk out when they finally brought the food. We explained to the girl at the register it was unacceptable. We were not blaming the waitress but the way the restaurant was being run. They apologized politely, saying they understood. But the damage had been done. We supported this place during the rough times. Not returning. read more

Lancers has been a Burbank institution for over 50 years and is showing no signs of slowing down. This coffee shop serves some well made unpretentious comfort food at a reasonable price. They recently added multiple tables out front and are allowing indoor dining at 50 percent capacity. The service is friendly and quick, and you also can order for take-out. Lancers has a senior menu and well priced daily specials, too. You can't beat the price for the large portions of all their meals. Whether you're dining in for breakfast, lunch or dinner, it's easy to find something appealing. It's also easy to find parking . I can't imagine Burbank without Lancers. read more

I never leave bad reviews but this one is warranted. What a terrible experience last night. All you have to do is scroll on these comments and you'll see that the owners don't find it important enough to hire valuable, hardworking people. The most miserable staff and service. I've worked in the food industry for years and I've worked besides people just like this. Rotten tomatoes. How the staff treats patrons usually speaks on how the managing/ownership is going all around. Almost all of the tables were dirty, hostess couldn't be bothered to seat us or even speak to us. We were absolutely unwelcome to be there and it was evident. Inexcusable. Regardless, Y'all all have the responsibility to do your jobs well or don't take our service. If you were too busy, say that. Don't cry when nobody wants to eat at your restaurant anymore, when you can get better service at a vending machine. read more

I'm still eating here after a few years. It seems it's gone under new ownership, and they are still making the best buttermilk pancakes EVER! I love really good and well done, though the inside buttermilk pancakes and I have to say I haven't found any better than here. I passed Lancers for a long time before actually giving it a try. My older neighbor kept telling me to go there but it simply didn't appeal to me. I'm not a fan of diners but sometimes they are in order. Been to several NJ diners. They are all very much alike. I decided to give Lancers a try while my parents were visiting from out of town. It was surprisingly clean inside, as well as bright with natural light. Service was friendly and our coffee cups were kept filled to the brim. The food is typical diner choices. It's good. Hot. Fresh. Not greasy. Lancers is quite large. Lots of seating. Plenty of parking. I've been back twice now and my parents like it over some of the other diners I've taken them to in Studio City and Burbank. read more

My mom had decided on this place for breakfast in celebration of my dad's birthday. I remember eating there during either lunch or dinner, so I was excited to give their breakfast menu a try. They had different meal combos to pick from for breakfast that was about to invest in, but decided last minute to get an eggs Benedict since I hadn't had one for awhile... I definitely should have played it safe and get one of those combos that had bacon/sausage, eggs, hashbrowns and pancakes instead. When my meal came, my English muffins topped with eggs and Canadian bacon were drowing in the hollandaise sauce. I literally was fishing around for my actual meal in it and I was disappointed that the hash browns weren't hash browns, but country potatoes. I don't know if there was a miscommunication, but I didn't want to make it a big deal since I was hungry. I just scraped out the access sauce and realized that the taste was overbearing and made it more soggy than I am use to. I did enjoy the potatoes and the fries that my brother needed up getting with his meal, but would definitely upgrade my rating foodwise if I come by here again. read more

I'm reminded of the end of that Harry Styles song: "You know, it's not the same as it was, as it was...." I just finished up a meal at Lancer's. It's been two years since I was last here. Before that, I used to come pretty frequently. Things are markedly different now. The service, once warm and cordial and prompt, is now largely cold, impersonal, and sluggish. We waited at the front, with no one else in line ahead of us, for several long minutes before an employee acknowledged us; when she took us toward the table, she threw the menus onto it as though we were inconveniencing her. We then waited a full twenty-five minutes before a server came to the table. We waited another twenty minutes after finishing our meals for the server to come by with the check. In between we saw her only once. No hellos, no warmth, no attentiveness. The food looks similar to what it was but tastes somehow cheaper, like the ingredients going into the dinners are not of the same quality. The food also feels less carefully prepared. My mashed potatoes were cool, my gravy lumpy, my bread dried out. Nothing in our dinners was piping hot, except maybe the soup. For as much as we were charged, one expects better. What happened to this place my family--Burbank natives--has enjoyed for decades? Something lamentable, I can say that much. I'll think hard before coming back. read more

Everything is good cooking. Ambiance is typical coffee shop vibe but if you are hungry you get plenty of food even some for the next day if you are only partially hungry. They have a full service bar if you have as need for that too! Staff is very nice and will help you if you need it. You don't get that any more without attitude in most places. First time eating here after many years of driving by. We were seated promptly and our waitress Gigi was great. She was very friendly and attentive. Food was good. Something has changed, A couple weeks ago we where there on a Sunday,I ordered the LumberJack Breakfast wife had a the new york steak sandwich. Ordered medium rare, showed up way over done, sent it back the replacement showed up rare, had them take it off the bill. Today thought we we give them another chance. I again had the Lumber Jack, wife tried the speical Carne Asada breakfast. medium rare show up iover cooked and so salty you couldnot taste the Carne. Service has always been good, but maybe a new chef? cheap paper napkins and thin low end silverware. All cost cutting but it is had to find something on the Menu under $15.00 average in closer to 18. I would give them 2.5 but since there isn't a half, I'm being generous at 3. The good things, old time style restaurant where you feel like you stepped back in time. Plenty of parking. Huge menu. Attentive staff. The negatives- food is not that great. French Dip was like cardboard, dry leather. The Au Jus didn't help because it was tasteless. Do not order your burger well done unless you want it so burnt you can't bite into it or cut it. Roasted chicken dinner was 3 small pieces. The wing was so over cooked and shriveled up, there was no meat on it. Flip side, fish and chips was the saving dish of the night. I would recommend that. read more

Ok so this was hard for me to do because I've been going to Lancers since 2002... and loved their food! The daily specials was my thing & ate dinner there Monday to Friday and breakfast every weekend for about 3 years. Being single and lazy back then was no excuse but I thank my lucky stars that Lancers was there to feed me. I mean where else can you get a 3 piece broasted chicken cooked to perfection with sides, soup, salad & dessert for about 8 bucks on a Monday in 2005. Lancers! Thats where you go when you want good old fashioned no BS american diner meals. However, since the pandemic a lot has changed at Lancers. The wait staff is not the same & the service is not as inviting. I'm not sure if this is a pandemic thing or that the old school servers didn't train the present servers but all I know is that its not as good. The dining area has been updated... so thats good I suppose. I remember going there to eat breakfast & sadly found out I'd be dining with the contractors banging & drilling away working while I tried to eat. Strike one. Coincidentally, they closed the restaurant for remodel the following week. It was strange, not sure why they decided to have diners in the restaurant during remodeling. I was happy when they re opened & I went there to have lunch. Ordered the roast beef open face sandwich - a go to of mine & was served something not expected. Normally, the roast beef would've been thick slices of roast beef with a rich brown gravy from a roast cooked in their kitchen. What arrived was not that. It looked like & tasted like Costco bought roast beef deli meat with gravy from a packet that was runny & not thickened at all. I was shocked & after 2 bites was so disappointed. Strike two. In fact, I didn't even eat the rest of the sandwich & was even more dissatisfied when the server didn't even ask or say how was the sandwich or could I get you something else... nuthin. Ok, there goes 20 bucks I didn't get to enjoy. But I was hopefull. I was clinging on to really, really, tasty meals I've had at Lancers in the past and went there again this time for breakfast. Ordered the Lumberjack... eggs, bacon, link sausage, strip of ham & pancakes. I've had this plate for breakfast countless times over 2 decades & so what I got was not the lancers lumberjack of the past. The bacon, sausage, & ham was not the same! The ham was the smoking gun though. I was served a slice of canned ham - like from Dubuque, Hormel, or Celebrity brand. The spongy soggy canned ham I'm sure everyone has had in a holiday party. Strike three! I no longer eat at Lancers. The food quality has gone way down. The prices though have gone way up. Lancers if you're listening please be aware that if I can cook my own breakfast with food from Costco why would I ever come back and eat at your restaurant? Its a shame, Lancers is now serving Dennys type of food... smh what a fuc@in shame. O stars... 1 star just to post... I'm so sad & hungry. read more

Seated by a staff person dressed for garage sale shopping, waiter asked "ready to order" about a minute and a half after we say down. That was the only "greeting" we got from anyone. Asked for more time, ordered. Soup came out over filled, slopped all down the sides and into the saucer. Not exactly an appetite enhancer. Gaak. Nothing else came out for 15 minutes. My companion's burger was okay, but the condiments didn't come with it, had to ask. The mixed green salad was huge. Four fifths of it was WET lettuce. I hate wet lettuce. It's a sign of a sloppy kitchen and a lack of care. No one checked to see if we needed anything else. We did, but oh, well. The check arrived, slapped down on the table. The server - wearing a mask pulled down below his nose - said "cash or charge," fiddled with his point of sale device, set it in the table, and walked away. Someone did finally clear our table. After we insisted they were both for our grandson, she relented, but we had already been put on edge. My wife and I both ordered the prime rib dinner. It arrived stringy and chewy. A big strike 2! I had been here with my family growing up but haven't been back as an adult. After my delicious brunch this morning, Lancers has definitely added itself to our weekend brunch rotation. Perfect spot for breakfast! I had the pancakes and egg's special (the #1, I believe?) and my boyfriend had the Big Larry breakfast burrito. Having read a wide variety of reviews for this place, I figured I'd have to visit myself to find out what it's really like. Interior suggests a recent renovation, which was pleasant. Took a while to get seated, but the staff was attentive and polite. They had a new system when placing an order that the waiter uses a handheld device to enter this to the kitchen. I'm sure (in theory) this makes things faster, but it hindered our table: with such a large menu, it took our waiter a while to enter it in (I don't blame him at all!) and thankfully a supervisor walked by and saw him struggling, because he nearly put in the wrong order for me! That day's special (Hot turkey sandwich) was pretty good but...not hot. Actually, it was barely warm which, with gravy, makes it tough. (And it meant I had to eat it fast!) No one came by to check on us until well afterwards, but unfortunately, we ran into the same problem in paying using this new device with the waiter. Think I gave him my card 3 times (only got charged once, thankfully!) In sum...it's fine. It's OK. Diners are sadly fading from Burbank, but maybe (with this new look and setup) they need time working out the kinks? read more

Lancers is one of my go to restaurants when I'm in Burbank. I have a lot of memories with my mother & sister and our families coming here to enjoy a meal together. Spending time and enjoying polite banter with the waitstaff. They know us and we know them, it feels like home to eat here. Mom died two years ago, we miss her so. Mom was 92 and strong as ever. Mom would order the homemade lentil soup and she loved the strawberry ice cream for dessert. She usually had the grilled chicken breast with rice pilaf or the tuna salad sandwich and soup combo. My sister and I ate at Lancers when I visited in April. We felt like mom was sitting right there with us at the table. I got the fried chicken and waffles and I thoroughly enjoyed it with a hot cup of coffee. The fried chicken was delicious. I can't wait to go back again to order the same. This time I'll also have some strawberry ice cream for dessert in honor of our dear mother. read more
