Truly disappointed in this place. Let me start by saying the great things. The service was amazing; our server Xavier was great. He was super attentive and made sure to check in with us throughout. The ambiance was also great. The music ranged from R&B, to reggaeton, to Today's Hits, to some oldies. I went with a friend and we started off with Elote (which was the highlight of the meal), and my friend got Yucca fries that cane with a cheese sauce (those were meh). Now to the disappointment. we decided to stop in georgia on our way home to meet up with some friends & try some new eats! one of my friends suggested las brasas as he had heard great reviews from a lot of compadres. we were sat very promptly & greeted by our server who took the time to explain the "family style" dining experience. we decided to go with the whole fried chicken which we were told was marinated for hours in peruvian spices & then fried. we also had an order of their fried rice with roasted chicken. the fried chicken was served hot & golden brown with a side of lime wedges, i am allllll about squeezing limes on any dish to bring out the flavor & squeeze i did! being honest the chicken was delicious but i thought it might have a little more ethnic kick. however paired with the rice (i think the main spice was either cumin or tumeric) & a splash of lime - the combonation of flavors was really good! read more

I'd been to Las Brasas years ago when they were still located closer to Agnes Scott college, and when I saw they had a scoutmob, I had to go back and revisit this great place. Las Brasas is a Peruvian restaurant that focuses on their roasted meats, and just from the aroma coming out of their restaurant, you know they know their way around any and every type of meat. Coming for lunch, I wanted something different, so I ordered their Lomo Saltado Sandwich ($12) and their Flan Quinoa ($6). Taken from their website, the Lomo Saltado comes with sautéed beef filet mignon tossed with fries, tomato, red onion, aji panca pepper purée, soy sauce and pisco. Served on an H&F bun. Let's get one thing out of the way now...these guys know how to cook some meat. Their beef, which came in strips/chunks were very tender and juicy, but they didn't have a lot of flavor to be honest. The bread was crispy and the veggies were pretty fresh, but the sandwich didn't have explosive flavors that I remembered, and it was just a pretty sandwich. The sandwich came with your choice of regular or sweet potato fries, and I was kinda sad to see crinkle cut fries. I thought they would be hand cut, although they tasted fine. No dipping sauce came with the fries. Their Quinoa Flan was very similar to the sandwich, in that it was cooked well and looked beautiful. The flan had a very silky texture, and the quinoa on top was a brûlée, but again, kinda lacking in flavor, not really sweet, and just okay to me. Las Brasas is at the corner of church street and commerce, and can be accessed from Mickey D's lot if you miss the entrance on Church. There is a very limited parking lot in front of Las Brasas (on church street), but there's a decent amount of space on the side (Commerce). Neither exit is a red light exit, but getting in/out isn't horrible. Customer service is attentive and although the restaurant looks small, it's actually quite spacious. I really want to give Las Brasas 5 stars, and the quality of their food prep is definitely on point...I just wasn't impressed with their flavors this time, but i'm sure the next time I visit, i'll have to update my review to 4 or more stars. It's time for this to be updated. Las brasas is definitely a fav here. A small building in Decatur with BIG flavor. They have a lunch menu until 230, dinner starts at 530. Recently they told me starting 9/26 they will be open all day!!! Their food is so juicy! My favorite thing to eat is their chaufa mixto. It is a HUGE serving of Peruvian seafood fried rice. My only complaint is that it's not served all day.. I crave it and can rarely make it out there for lunch. Womp Womp. Their roasted chicken is the most tender chicken you will ever have. I always get some to take home but ending up eating most of it with my meal. So good! The lomo Saltado is amazing and something I like to get often. Big chunks of beef filet stir fried with onions fries and tomatoes, served with rice. It's indescribable. You will never see me rave about a salad but here the house salad is totally worth it. Big and fresh, served with this creamy cucumber sauce... I never miss my salad serving when coming here. Their beams look soupy but are surprisingly tasty... All in all, you can't really go wrong here. Try their inka cola! It tastes like bubble gum! I like to have it with a few splashes of chicha morada- a sweet purple drink made of corn. The prices are good for the quality of food. Lomo Saltado is the most expensive at $17, a whole chicken is $15 and half for $9. The salad is $6. This place gets its 5th star due to one of their employees, Cullen. He is by far the best there and a really cool guy in general, we always have a nice chat with him and he always remembers our names which aren't that easy. Try to sit in his section! I decided to have lunch here today after passing the restaurant several times. I ordered the 1/4 portion grilled chicken combo with beans and rice and it was a great value under $10 bucks. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. The chicken was phenomenal! Perfectly grilled and moist. The rice and beans were good as well. I was a fan of Las Brasas when they were a take-out only, small joint close to Kimball House. I'm glad they have a bigger space to sit down and eat a meal, now. My concern was that the food wouldn't be as good as it was in their old location but our meal last week was delicious. We came around 2pm an a Saturday afternoon. It was busy but no wait, and not crowded. Excellent ambiance. The food was authentic. Wait staff nice. Beer selection was decent. They have a full bar, although no bartender on duty (?!) Civeche is ON POINT! I would definitely come back for ceviche. We shared Lomo Salteado which is on the dinner menu, and we had to ask for it... The filet mignon was sparce but very tasty. The vegetables were nicely grilled. The service here is the worst service I have ever had in my life. As a Peruvian, I found the food decent with a couple of flaws. My mother and I tried to speak with Julio, the owner. He refused to come to our table to discuss the matter. As we left, we approached him. We asked him is he cared about our opinion and he said "no! I don't care about your opinion." We spent over 100 dollars on a meal that could have been decent if his service hadn't been so horrendous. I will make sure to tell all of my friends to not come to a place like this. Had a wonderful experience here! I recently moved to Atlanta and was really looking to find a place where I could enjoy some Peruvian dishes that would take me back to my time in South America. The outside patio was really cute, great for a date night! I had the Lomo Saltado and a pisco sour. Both where amazing and I was finally able to satisfy my Peruvian food craving! My guy and I wanted to hit up some place I had never tried. Las Brasas was a place I had bookmarked and he liked the menu, so off we went. I already knew what I wanted from looking at the online menu. Though I was tempted by the chicken saltado, I ended up getting the lomo saltado. The picture looked so good online. The dish is autéed beef filet mignon tossed with fries, tomato, red onion, aji panca pepper purée and soy sauce. Finished with pisco and served over white rice. I also got asparagus as a side. My guy got the ceviche mixto -flounder fillet, Spanish octopus, calamari and tiger shrimp lime marinated with cilantro and red onion. Served with sweet potato and choclo (Peruvian corn). As a side he got the Potato Huancaina - sliced Yukon potato chilled, covered in aji spiced cream cheese sauce and garnished with quail eggs and olives. The asparagus were huge. I thought they were just OK flavor-wise. The saltado was pretty good. I didn't think it had enough meat though. The best flavor was the fries. It soaked in all the flavors of the dish. The meat itself was rather bland, sadly. My guy liked his calamari, but the potatoes were just OK. Food was cooked up quickly and our server was pleasant. I ordered the chicken sandwich, which came with thinly sliced pickles, mayonnaise, a GENEROUS amount of chicken, and chicharron, all on top of a sweet bun that tasted similar to potato bread to me (not sure what it's actually made of). It's a meat and bread sandwich, with no frills or flares. The amount of chicken given is alarmingly good. I swear they try to fit half a bird in there. The meat itself was flavorful, juicy, and a good level of spice. The chicken skin was spicy and crispy; I only wish I had more to enjoy with every bite instead of just stuck in the center. I liked the pickles too, they tasted fresh and slightly sweet. They didn't overpower the sandwich which I appreciated as well. I got it with a side of regular fries which taste amazing with the two sauces the sandwich comes with. The white one is cool and creamy and the yellow one is spicy. The waiter suggested mixing the sauces and eating my fries and sandwich with that, which turned out to be a great suggestion. Their papa a la huancaina however is just okay, not bad but it feels like it's missing key ingredients like the aji Amarillo, it's also a bit waterdowned. The green sauce that comes with the chicken is also very watery. For it to be a Saturday night, it sure is empty, but then again, it is the day before Valentine's Day so everyone is all booed up with their cliche heart shaped chocolate boxes and stuffed bears (love is a beautiful thing y'all). I ordered a drink called Chicha Morada which is a traditional authentic Peruvian drink with a mixture of purple corn, pineapples, cloves, cinnamon, and sugar. I was so excited to taste it, but I didn't like it at all. It was way too sweet for my liking and was comparable to diabetic-laden kool-aid, so I just ordered a soda. After my Chicha fiasco, I was ready to order. I wasn't too hungry, so I just went for some sweet potato fries which was yummy, but the portions were huge! Luckily, my brother walks in and finished them off (was that devine intervention or what)? While customer service was excellent, the restaurant was freezing! I heard the bartender joking about how they turned the heat off to save a couple of bucks and based on how it felt in there...he was serious. I ended up putting my coat back on just to stay warm. When I asked what was going on with the heat, I was told that the heating was acting up and they apologized for the temperature. Now that I think about it, maybe those candles on the tables were doing double duty: decór and ambiance and trying to warm up the place! Will I come back? However, our waiter kept checking us and asking if we would like to order more in every 10 mins or so. The first time I came here in the Winter, it was super crowded, therefore I didn't really feel like I wanted to eat much. This time, in Summer, at about 7.30pm, it was less crowded. I felt much better and had a better appetite. We ordered the whole chicken, the white meat was moist. To my surprise, when I stuck my fork & knife into the white meat, juices came seeping out! That was enough to tell me I'm going to enjoy my otherwise boring dry white meat. It was flavourful. And since it was the whole chicken, my husband and I both had 2 quarts. The second quart I took was the one with the thigh. That of course was even more moist. Enough said, talking about this makes me salivate. The green dipping sauce that came with the chicken I felt I didn't need as the chick was tasty enough. Next we sort of shared the Yucca. I didn't quite like the yucca as it was cut too thick and was dry and too powdery for me to like. I much prefer the consistency of fries, but not dry yucca. So after 1.5 pieces, I passed on it. Overall, I like my ice tea with loads of lemons and my chicken. It was more than enough for me. I'll be back again next time.
