I came here with my friend two nights ago. We were driving on the 210 going west, and we stopped by for dinner before going north on the I-5. I chose Las Llamas out of convenience really. It was on the way, so I figured it'd be the best choice. My friend really liked his Tallarines Verde con Bistek, which, using my high school Spanish, I might translate as "Spinach noodles with beef steak." The beef was a little tough IMHO, but my friend didn't notice. I had half a Rotisserie chicken, figuring that chicken was their specialty since it's part of their name. I got two sides: rice and beans. I ate the chicken off the bone because it's impossible to cut meat off a drumstick neatly. It was pretty dry IMHO. The rice seemed like prepackaged rice to me. And the beans? No comment. However, my friend kept praising the creaminess of his green noodles. So I'm somewhat of an epicure while my friend eats anything. I'm giving Las Llamas four stars because the service was good, and for a place I randomly picked on Yelp, my friend really liked it. (I've had better, though) read more

I love this place! Owner is the one that usually cooks, my favorite is Lomo Saltado, chunks of beef with French fries, onions and tomatoes mixed together with white rice on the side, my son and my daughter's favorite is Tallarines verdes with steak.... I always pinch their plates! Enjoy! read more

First off, this place is not hard to find. It is right on the northeast corner of Foothill and Astoria in a little strip mall with a big sign that says LAS LLAMAS. There are about 3 signs and I don't know how you can miss it. I went to pick up dinner to go. I walked in, ordered at 4:46 and left at 4:51pm. Everyone was friendly and nice. I have zero complaints about the service. I am pretty picky about Peruvian food as I have traveled to Peru and once you have had the real thing it is hard to have a crappy imitation. So at Las Llamas I ordered the aji chicken, because aji is amazing and it is hard to find if you want to make it yourself. It only comes with chicken and rice (kind of wish it had a vegetable or something with it but you know what, it doesn't matter) and it was delicious. I mean seriously I almost licked the bottom of my takeout container. It also came with a side of aji verde which was spicy and wonderful and amazing and I haven't had aji verde that good in a while. I am always looking for good Peruvian food and have tried a number of places (Mario's, El Rocoto, Picca, etc.) and this place really is great. So i decided to take my boyfriend here so he could try peruvian food for the first time. I was hoping it was as good as the reviews said it was. And for the small hole in the wall it was Amazing!!! the service was great the food was served quite quickly and HOT!! the Shrimp Saltado was made with big clustard shrimp not small cocktail shrimp. I really did not like this restaurant a bit . There food was really gross . Over priced and the food doesn't deliver . The rice was cold hard and definitely microwave, it also looked like they gave me the scrapes of the rice . The chicken had so many different flavors that none of them came together. I had the lomo saltado and my dad had a 1/4 grilled chicken combo. As for the lomo saltado the gravy was pretty yummy as were the fries, but the beef was a bit tough. I think there were one or two really tender pieces of steak, but the rest was hard to get through. My dad had the 1/4 chicken and said it was really dry. It looked very stringy. I guess the place myst be falling on hard times because a young boy who was working there had to leave the restaurant to refill a 5 gallon bottle of water before my dad and I could get a refill. read more

Lomo Saltado is good, but not bomb.com. I gave it 4 stars because it's always our go-to place when we don't feel like cooking on a Sunday evening and 2 lomos fill 2 adults and 2 children. Very yummy! I did try the chicken there once and neither me nor my kids liked it. I want to try different things on the menu, but am scared I may not like it. It was my first time visiting I was bit doubtful but don't let appearances fool you it's a great place to dine in at or take out. I had to wait little longer than I expected to but it was not a big deal. I tried two dishes the lomo saltado montado and papa a la huancaina. They included salsa that was delicious and spicy. They also included a warm bread which was a nice touch. The lomo saltado had good strong flavor and the steak was nice and tender. I just ate at this place. I been to Mario's in Hollywood and a few other places that have Peruvian food. This place was just as good I'll even say better. I had the lomos saltado and the Portion was big with alot of beef in it, the best part is there pricing is really good and Less expensive compared to the places in Hollywood, Glendale, the valley that I been to. Love at first bite! Huge Peruvian food fan. And my favorite spot is in the Northridge area. So Lo and behold I stop by my sisters fave. Nail salon to get her a gift card and I see "las llamas... Peruvian food!" And I almost cried with joy! I tried it the following day and it did not disappoint! Delicious flavor! Had the lomo saltado, and some of the pescado frito encebollado. Soooooo delicious! I'm scared to review it cause then it's gonna cease to be my special find and y'all are gonna start migrating to Sylmar!! But, they deserve the fame! Seriously good eats!
