Food is normally very good. Green chili and salsa are awesome. Margarita are great. The service is generally poor, slow slow slow. Not the kitchen the waiters. They seem to intentionally ignore you have to flag them down to order, to get more salsa to get the check. So annoying. Take out orders CHECK them. Missing items far to often. We have eaten there about 50 times and they just don't seem to give a hoot about the quality of service. Again the good is very good but my husband is done! My family and I have eaten here a few times and really enjoyed it. The food is good. The location right near our home makes it very convenient. However, ordering a take-out order is an exercise in frustration. I have ordered take-out twice before and the order was wrong both times. The experience we had last week clinches the fact that we will never return. I picked up a take-out order and was handed two heavy bags. When I got home, my husband determined that we were missing 3 out of our 5 orders and took the bags back to the restaurant to get the rest of our dinner. He entered the restaurant and spoke to the girl at the register, saying that some of our order was missing. She asked, "where is the other bag?! I handed you three bags!" My husband explained that she didn't hand him anything because his wife had picked up the order, when the girl replied, "do you want to see the cameras?!" My husband was understandably angry at being accused of stealing food and told her that he would love to see the cameras. The girl walked into the back to check the cameras, apparently, when the manager came up to the front and started speaking Spanish to the kid at the register. Never once did the manager address the issue with my husband but instead quickly went to the back with the boy. A few minutes later, the boy returned with a bag of food and asked my husband, "so, do you want these?" My husband asked what it was and the kid explained that they had located our third bag of food in the kitchen. The manager never once apologized for their mistake or even acknowledged that there was a problem. All the two young people at the front learned that day was how to offer horrible customer service. My Husband asked for our money back and was told that our credit card would be credited and that it "should work, but if not, come back in to get it figured out." Any restaurant that is this dismissive of their customers, even after accusing them of lying and stealing, will never see another penny of my money. read more

Decided to introduce my family to this Mexican restaurant. I had been before and had a great experience. It's not super close to where we live so a bit of a drive but decided to give it a go again. Did not have the same experience as last time. We asked the server if everything was available on the menu ( including lunch and breakfast items) and she said yes "everything is available on the menu". My son ordered an item priced at $9.75 that was charged $16.75 and my other son ordered taquitos and tacos were delivered. Another item that was supposed to be $9.75 and then charged $12.75 on bill. - side of guac in a small ramekin came back at $5 on the bill. I can digest that but not the other items that were miss ordered and over charged. We spoke to the server and the manager who declined to do anything about it. It was embarrassing. We will never return...shame on this establishment for over charging and not fixing it or even meeting somewhere in the middle as I suggested. read more

First and last visit to La Potrancas- ordered the shrimp fajitas. The fajitas, according to the menu, come with a side plate of rice, guacamole, sour cream and beans. Fajitas were delivered without side plate. When I asked for the side plate I was brought a side of guacamole (which I was charged for and did not order) eventually the side plate was delivered by the manager. Additionally, you get 2 small tortillas (if you order flour) one may or may not be hard and burnt- when you ask for more tortillas you are charged .75 cents. My daughter ordered a cheese enchilada with rice from the kids menu with sauce on the side. Meal came with sauce on enchilada and no rice- had to show server the menu to point out rice came with meal- gave up on pointing out order was delivered with sauce. Attempted to have guacamole and tortillas removed from bill. Guacamole was removed and management refused to remove the .75 cent charge for tortillas? Yikes! Apparently at Las Potrancas, .75 cents is worth more than a repeat customer. read more

Food is OK... actually pretty good. Stupid coupon rules, however. Would not allow a "buy one, get one half price" meal coupon during happy hour, even though we did not want a happy hour drink. Pleasantly surprised. I think they have new owners since the last time I was there. Green chili spicy and tasty. Cut raw onions on cheese enchiladas- love that flavor. Guacamole was blaaah BUT add some of their salsa and fresh jalapeños and it became yummy. Ok I like spice!! The special marg was wonderful. It's basically a silver coin marg with agave. I was hesitant to try this place at first. BOY WAS I WRONG. This had some of the best Mexican food ever. The El Pastor was super flavorful and super tender. The Chicharones were fresh and excellent. I ordered the steak fajita burrito and it was super juicy and tender as well. My girlfriend ordered the shrimp fajitas and received almost 20 shrimp all fresh and cooked perfectly. Not to mention the excellent tequila selection. Highly recommend for anyone looking for excellent flavored food. read more

I have been a regular customer at this restaurant since it opened. I have always enjoyed the food, it is definitely my favorite Mexican food around. However, the service has deteriorated significantly over the past year. On three occasions now, it has taken 20 minutes or longer to just get a water. The staff stands around and converses with each other, and ignores their tables. Much of the staff does not speak English either. I went with a party of six this past weekend. We waited 35 minutes for water!!! Some of party arrived at 6:03pm (I happened to look at my watch), we went to the manager at 6:36 to complain. I ordered a Chardonnay, and the waiter decided for me that i needed a margarita, brought me that instead, and proceeded to spill it on me when he set it down. Their margaritas are terrible, so I didn't drink it, and asked for Chardonnay again. He then proceeded to mess up all of our orders, so we went to management, yet again. The manager came to help us, but made a rude comment right off the bat, that we just thought it was 30 minutes that we waited for water, that it was actually probably 10 (WTF??), then he still messed up my order (again), and blamed all of us for trying to confuse him. He rudely said that we shouldn't come back!! Again, I have been a regular for many, many years, and that comment floored me. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED!!! Very bad experience. Order taker could not remember what was ordered. Came to table 3 times to take order again. After 46 minutes delivered food and only one of 2 correct. Thought we would try this new place. It was awful! The food I ordered was CAMERONES A LA MENTEQUILLA-Shrimp cooked in butter served with beans,rice,lettuce,tomato and tortillas. Brought it to me floating in oil! It tasted like soy bean oil not butter. I asked the waitress if this is suppose to be on this plate and she just stared at me and kept asking me if I like it? The rice had no flavor the beans had no flavor, tortillas were not good, I had to ask for a bowl of green chilie just so I could eat this food, horrible taste HAD TWO BITES oil is all I tasted, soy bean! My wife and I love Mexican food, and we have had really good Mexican food all over the country, starting back in Southern California decades ago. We were anxious to try Las Potrancas' new location on 64th because it's close to home. What a disappointment! First, they have happy hour every night except Saturday when we like to go out... OK, our problem, not theirs, but, you know, it is theirs because many other really good Mexican Restaurants offer happy hour on Saturday night. The salsa is runny and HOT... but it has no taste... it's just hot. I ordered a Chimichanga and my wife ordered a two Chile Rellenos and Taco combo. The meat in the Chimichanga and the taco were exactly the same... a mixture of very bland ground beef... really, very little flavor at all. I hate to say this, but the tacos at Taco Bell are better, and then there are Fuzzy's Tacos... not even close! The taco was so runny, the shell was soggy and fell apart when you picked it up. The crispy rellenos were made with flour tortillas - not the traditional skins that make this dish such a treat. OK, now the Mexican rice served with both meals was just OK, a little bland also, but how can you screw up refried beans? Tasteless. Oh, did I mention the chips were salt-free and bland also. The only way we could add taste to this meal was adding way too much salt. The place is colorful and bright, and the servers did a good job... I hope that the kitchen gets its act together soon, or this will be the third Mexican restaurant at this location to go out of business in a year or two. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! We tried to use a BOGO with the purchase of 2 drinks and even asked our server if they accepted the coupon. She said yes, but not on appetizers. So we changed our order to something cheaper (go figure) and ate a decent tasting meal. When she went with our coupon to get it deducted off our bill, she came back and told us that because it was Happy Hour (apparently all day on Sunday) that her manager would not honor it. He came over and reiterated his stance, and we replied that his employee had told us that it was fine to use. He could have cared less after we told him we would not be tipping the waitress, nor would we be coming back. Odder still, he did not adjust our bill in any way. I even asked if he could compensate her in some way for her service, and he said he would not. With managers like that, they will have a hard time finding good employees. And with that horrible of customer service, I wish them luck staying in business. Disappointing that a restaurant wouldn't comp a $9.95 meal to help their server out, nor deliver anything close to decent customer service. Mind boggling really. read more

As a long standing customer at the Original Restaurant I was always satisfied with the level of service and the food. Recently 10-13-15 pm I decided that I would try the take out at the new restaurant. I have NEVER, EVER, EVER received such horrible service from a restaurant in my whole life. The young lady who helped me was about as rude as it gets. I told her that I was going to order take-out and asked for a menu. She just handed me the menu (without eye contact). I placed my order with her at the front check out and even gave her a $2.00 tip (which I don't normally do for take-out) expecting a thank you. Not one word...except for.."it will be ready in 10 minutes". When she handed me the bag, she almost dropped it (no eye contact, No Thank you, etc.). I didn't check my order and as soon as I got home I noticed I was missing two items. I immediately called the restaurant and explained the situation. My guess is that I got the same gal. I told her what I was missing and to have it ready when I got there (about 10 minutes away). When I got there, it wasn't ready and took about another 5 minutes. When she came up to give me the order again....NO EYE CONTACT, NO APOLOGY, NOTHING!!!!!!. I understand that this thing happens every now and then but this was ridiculous!!! Needless to say, I don't care how good the food is, I WILL NEVER GO BACK, and Tell all my local friends to stay away. I'm no longer a customer. read more

Terrible. Salsa was hot, but not the good hot, more like gasoline poured in your mouth. They quote happy hour prices, but don't live up to it. I was there on a Sunday and was not given the happy hour price that was quoted on the menu. No explanation, except their right to change prices without explanation. Paid without to much of an arugement, assumed it was just a fluke. Wrong. Went back today, admittedly we made a mistake and forgot our credit card. Brought it up to the cashier that we forgot our card, could we write a check? was told that they accept checks, just that the manager had to give the okay. Went about our meal and when we went to pay, were told the manager would not accept a check. The manager never came out to talk to us. Again, my mistake, but when a manager will not come and speak to you?? The food there is not worth the effort anyway, better places to go even if its a further drive. Hello Taco Bell! read more
