This wasn't just a meal, but an adventurous dining excursion! The restaurant is located on Sunset Key, a small island off the northwest coast of Key West. Getting there is half the fun...you'll need a reservation and then a short "shuttle" boat ride from the marina behind the Opal Key Resort on the west shore of the main island. Once there, seating choices include both outside right on the water and a few indoor areas as well. We desperately wanted to sit outside, but the midday sun was so strong and no shaded spots were open, so we acquiesced and sat inside to protect ourselves while remaining comfortable. I ordered a key lime colada while my wife had a glass of wine. The colada was super-refreshing with its tart lime flavoring and came with a graham cracker rimmed glass...a lovely touch! As for the meal, my wife's fish dish was perfectly cooked served with yellow rice, grilled asparagus and a small salad. My chilled poached shrimp came with three plump gulf shrimp served over a tomato cucumber dill salad and a dollop of foamy horseradish cream. We had a lingering, light meal and an enjoyable boat ride making for a fantastic lunch experience. Would definitely do this again, especially for lunch. read more

Bloody Mary's were underwhelming and tasted like we were drinking tomato soup. If I'm going to be fully transparent, the food was subpar and not something you need to go out of your way for. Food was over price and decent at most. To add to this, we parked at the public parking at the Opal hotel for about an hour 1/2 but had misplaced our ticket when leaving. We were met with a $500 "lost ticket" fee. Truthfully, an outrageous price to charge a guest who is already paying a substantial amount to either stay or dine with the Opal. The food was spectacular!! That's where the positives end in this experience. My wife and I chose latitudes for lunch on our baby moon in key west. We arrived looking forward to this highly recommended experience. We arrived and there were a few available table outside, and we were sat inside away from everyone. They did not ask if we wanted to sit outside having available tables outside. At this point it was not worth mentioning as we were excited tWe sat there as the only table inside and waited 15 minutes for the server to arrive. We ordered a drink and when it arrived we ordered food. That was the last time I saw the server. We finished our water before dinner came and never received a refill or anything. We finished our food, and after 10 more minutes of an empty table the server walks up asking if we want to get dessert with 10 menus filling his hand like he happened to see we were still there. Upset, I asked for more water and when he refilled the water I asked for a dessert menu and he had the audacity to tell me that he just asked me if I wanted a menu and I told him I needed water first and that he ignored us the entire afternoon and he said "I got buy and my help was also busy". I could not believe that he would even think that his response was professional enough to say to a guest. I told him to buy with everyone else but you can ignore us the entire afternoon and not even check up on a guest. I asked to speak to a manager on my way out and there was no manager present so I spoke to the supervisor and kindly requested to have the manager call me back at their earliest convenience to share my experience, but that did not happen. Honestly, the food is very good, but I do not think the service matches that quality, and in my opinion is not worth it in the end. Well what a night! We never even got to try the restaurant because of our experience of trying to get on the boat to go over to the private island. We arrived at the dock to check in at 4:38 for our 4:45 time (keep in mind there is little to no signage directing you where to go to). We checked in with a nice enough young lady at the beginning of the dock. When I asked her if that was our boat (to the right) she said yes. We walked down to the boat and it was a scene of chaos because there were already a number of people on board and we were greeted by someone saying, "we only have room for 3 more people". When my wife and I pointed out that we had a 4:45 reservation, we were told that the Coast Guard only allows for 49 people to go across so we would have to wait for the next boat. I said, "why would we not have a spot on the boat if our reservation time was 4:45?" During this time, they were allowing a party of 7 to go aboard (even though they were not all there quite yet) and then a woman cut in front of my wife and I and was permitted to board. When we pointed out that this woman was not ahead of us, the boat personnel acted like she was and then said, "we really don't know who was here first, but she's ahead of you now." At this point I asked to speak to the person in charge only to be told that the guy who had become increasingly rude to us was that said person. He said he was the boat captain and that we had to go to the office in the hotel to resolve and when I said, "fine then just cancel my reservation since you overbooked the boat," he then said, "well you'll be charged a cancellation fee" to which I responded, "we'll see about that." So much for the customer is always right and for the great Christmas spirit from the boat captain whose name was Zach. We walked over to the hotel accompanied by a nice security guy (Jack) who tried as best he could to diffuse the situation. Jack had the Manager on Duty (Taneesha) speak with us and she assured us we would not be charged for the cancellation--I told her I would expect a call from the GM to tell him just how upset we were and that I would never consider returning to their property. She offered to try to get us into a local restaurant which served Mexican food, but I told her I would rather just leave the property and thanked her for being nice in trying to help us. Let me just say in closing that I run a rather large Sales organization which has gross revenues of about $850 Million dollars annually. If my Sales team ever treated a customer the way we were treated tonight, we would be out of business. This place seemingly has a good reputation, but clearly they missed the mark this evening. read more

I visited Key West last month for a quick weekend getaway and a friend recommended that I dine at latitudes restaurant. This restaurant is an upscale restaurant with beautiful see views located on sunset key. You have to take a short boat ride from Key West resort and Marina but it is all worth it. The service was exquisite and the ambiance was 10/10. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip. The food was top-tier. We started with the main lobster & jumbo lump crab cake and chargrilled octopus, which were both very good and tasty. For my entrée, I had the Wagyu beef skirt steak with tomato purée, and asparagus. For dessert, my friend and I shared the Keylime pie and salted caramel crème brûlée, both of which were to die for. After we finished eating, we were so stuffed and extremely satisfied. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone going to the Florida Keys. read more

If you're headed to Key West, this restaurant is an absolute MUST!! First piece of advice: Make your reservation... NOW! Reservations need to be made at least 3 months in advance and can be made up to a year in advance. Whether you're looking for lunch or dinner, this restaurant is absolutely divine and you'd be missing out if you didn't go. I'm sure a stay on the island would be just as fantastic, but their all cottages so going with a group would be recommended. My husband and I were in Key West celebrating our 10 year anniversary together, and we broke off from our friends group for the day to venture to Latitudes for a breathtaking lunch. You take a ferry to the island, so note your reservation time is your boat launch time. The ferries run all day twice each hour so after your meal you can just soak up the sights from the island before heading back to Key West. As I said, we came here for lunch which allowed for exceptional views with the sunlight bouncing off the water, water activities to watch all around, and just gorgeous views to soak up. But, we have friends who have been here for dinner and that's supposed to be a wonderful experience as well with the island fully lit up at night. Alright, the service is exceptional, the drinks are dynamite, the food is fresh and delicious, and the views are just... everything! I just can't recommend this restaurant experience enough... latitude is special in so many ways, but primarily it's about the ambience and service. This was our third lunch visit to Latitudes and we had a wonderful time. You do not go to Latitudes to eat, you go to dine in your choice of three magnificent settings, inside, covered patio outside, or in the sand with umbrellas and breathtaking views of the gulf. Your dining experience begins with a 10 minute boat ride from the Mallory Square area past cruise ships to Sunset Key. Reservations are a must in order to access the launch ride, as well as to state your preference for where you will dine. Upon entry to Latitudes, you are greeted and quickly escorted to your table. In our case, our table for two was in the sand right at the waters edge. We were greeted by our waitress Iva who did a magnificent job taking care of us. The last time we were here, they featured an old fashion cocktail that was the best I had ever had. The cocktail was no longer on the menu, but Iva assured me, she could make me one that would be just as good as I remembered, and she was correct, as was the Mojito she made for my wife. The menu featured an appetizer of a crab lobster crab cake which Eva said was made with stone crab. We told her we were from Maryland and had high expectations for crabcakes, and she said she thought we would like it. My wife had a hamburger and I had the Cobb salad, both were very good. The crabcake appetizer, however, was a huge disappointment with more filler than crab or a lobster. We had to pick it through to find any small pieces of meat resembling either crustacean. While it presented beautifully on the plate with the corn relish, the taste, and overall quality was severely lacking, and certainly not in keeping with the high standards of latitude. we had a beautiful day weatherwise, and will certainly return to latitudes for all the above reasons, but next time we will skip the crabcake appetizer. read more

I don't ever review restaurants, but wanted to for Latitudes. We went to several nice restaurants on the island, all great. This one was supposed to be special because it was a boat ride and we set the reservation for sunset. It really wasn't as great as we were hoping for. It started the second we walked in. We were a family of four, dressed up very nice for dinner and were immediately eyed up and down by the host who then took several minutes to decide what was the best seat for us. He clearly judged us and proceeded to sit us directly in the sun and save "better tables" for others. It was obvious and insulting. There were plenty of tables with umbrellas that would have been much more comfortable. The food was fair and too pricey for what it was. We definitely had better food at other restaurants. Ambiance was nice. Tons of ants and just not worth the money. Again, I don't ever review restaurants, but felt I should so others don't have the same experience. read more

We are three couples who enjoyed a wonderful dining experience at Latitudes, and I highly recommend it if you're planning to go. Unfortunately, our experience was marred when it came time to pay the check and our waiter told us that they couldn't accept more than two credit cards! We had planned for each couple to pay using their own card, as we had at every other restaurant we've ever been to. The manager was no help as he kept spouting corporate policy, blah-blah-blah. We told him it would have been nice if we had been informed of this policy prior to the meal, or if this policy had been posted on their web site, or if a pop-up had appeared when the reservation was made. Long story short, one of us covered the entire bill and the others have repaid him. But being forced by latitudes to have to jump through these additional hoops turned a great dining experience into one we won't forget for one very petty reason. read more

Swordfish was beyond bland and dry. The lobster bisque also not good. For a $150 you can get better meals than this. Such a fun experience! The latitudes restaurant is located on a "private island" which you have to travel by boat to. When you confirm your reservation, you will receive further info on where to board the boat which will take you to your breakfast, lunch, or dinner reservation. The most popular reservation is dinner at the sunset hour, and this is often booked out several months in advance so plan accordingly! We were able to snag a last minute 9 am breakfast reservation just 1 week out, which I think is worth it just to try out the experience. Although breakfast is somewhat pricey coming out to about $35 per person (for 1 breakfast entree and a fresh squeezed OJ), I think it was totally worth it for the experience given that it includes a short boat ride. When we arrived everything was a 5 star treatment. We were seated by the water (my wife's preference) she had the Special Burger which could just could not finish. I had the Fish Tacos and could only eat two of the three. We started with Tuna Pokey. Everything came in large Portions and everything was on point. The Martinis were strong and tasted great. I had the Dirty Martini (which came with 5 Blue Cheese Olives. My wife had Guilty Passion. For desert they brought us Key Line Pie - fabulous. The property is Gorgeous bring a nice camera. Food and staff were excellent, but most people there are having date night, so when a family with two crying toddlers sat outside by us, it ruined the mood. Luckily, the family asked to go inside since it was so hot out, but that really would have ruined the ambiance if not. That being said, I would not allow kids here or have a no crying policy that's strictly enforced. As another review mentioned, patrons would come up behind you and between tables to take sunset photos. Nothing you can do about it, but just know that if you sit along the water as the restaurant cannot ask people to leave. The onion soup was 5 stars, amazing! The wedge salad was delicious as well, and they split it nicely on two separate plates for my husband and I. The miso noodles entree was tasty and great for those with sensitive stomachs. My husband's beef tenderloin was good with delicious, colorful cauliflower. The sunset views are incredible and worth sitting in the heat. Make reservations months in advance! We had complimentary bread (regular and gluten free) along with drinks, an app, 3 entrees and a dessert and all were phenomenal. I learned this past visit that you are able to switch the protein to another dish. For example, I wanted the swordfish but I couldn't eat the accompaniments with it so the server informed me that I could simply pick another dish and swap the fish. I chose the salmon dish and replaced it with swordfish and it was delicious. They were very receptive to my gluten free and dairy free needs. Food was ok. Service was awful. We were seated outside on a windy night. When we asked for a heat lamp, we were told they had been used all day and only one was left. Operational. Even though there was an empty table next to the apparently one fueled heat lamp, sitting next to it or having another heat lamp turned on apparently weren't options. My wife was brought a table cloth to wrap in instead. Food was brought. Server returned to the table zero times after our food was brought. When it started raining, we moved ourselves and our food to a table under the patio overhang to keep ourselves and our food from getting wet. Still no appearance from our waiter. We watched him through the window talking to a table of four inside for several minutes. When we had finished our food, which was several minutes after finishing our drinks, the waiter finally came back out and told us he'd buy us any dessert we wanted without prompting. I declined and asked for the check. I paid this without complaint, but I did tip zero. I believe the last time I tipped zero was a little over twenty years ago when a waitress in New Orleans had complained about my daughter. The zero tip was definitely justified at this supposedly high end restaurant. But the kicker was, as we were waiting for the ferry to get back to Key West, the waiter came out to service another table and complained loudly about us, using pejorative descriptions, to other patrons because of the zero tip.
