Tried this place for the first time with a girlfriend this last week. The place was packed!!! The staff was super helpful and friendly!! We will defiantly be coming back! I ordered the paleo bowl, it was very tasty, and fresh! She ordered the Korean bowl, it was heaven!! I will be ordering that next time!!! Soooo amazing! I ordered a bean and cheese burrito for the kid, she loved it!! (I stole a bite or two... It was very good' and felt healthy!) I ordered the lemonade.... Wow!!! You need to order that!! Your tummy will be so happy. The only thing that kinda sucks about this place is the parking, it's in the heart of midtown so be prepared to walk a little from your car.... But it's worth the walk!! I've been to this place five or six times and I've never been disappointed. Their menu is really diverse in flavors and also in types of food. They have great teas, soda fountain options, smoothies and they have several beers on tap. They offer a lot of gluten free and vegan options, always a nice touch. This place is seriously cool! I love that Reno is starting to welcome healthy, clean eating at an affordable price, and what a great addition to the ever improving Midtown district. While parking can sometimes be a challenge, don't be deterred, spend the extra minute to find a spot and you won't be disappointed! Whether you're a meat lover, or follow a vegetarian, vegan, or paleo diet, you will find yourself immersed in the unique variety of soup, salad, quesadillas, burritos, fresh juices and smoothies! Each time I visit I find myself torn between at least three menu items. I visited last night and was quickly helped at the front counter, and my food was delivered to my table in less than 10minutes. I ordered the black bean/spinach burrito which included beans, rice, cheese, and pico. Not only was it a large burrito, it was delicious and less than $6! The chips and salsa are an absolute must. These are quite possibly my most favorite restaurant tortilla chips ever! Thick, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. The salsa is also a winner! My friends ordered the Spanky's Bowl and Highway to Kale Salad and they both loved their dishes. Delicious recipes made to order with delicious produce and fresh ingredients. I've been here two nights in a row. First night I had the Autumn Bento with tofu and it was amazing. For dessert I had the Flu Buster Toddy--freshly juiced ginger, lemon and cayenne pepper and honey. Tonight I started with chips and salsa and moved onto the Bollywood bowl with grilled chicken and lots of fresh veggies and brown rice. I'm from Oakland and have to say laughing planet matches or surpasses most of my favorite places in the Bay Area. Very friendly service, no attitude lovely people! And great prices too! One of my favorite vegetarian and vegan spots though they do serve meat to for those so inclined. Usually go with one of their specials or one of their bowls. No need for rice or tortillas here. All veggies all the time plus some tofu with a little extra something that was unexpected make this place quite interesting. For tortilla chips the hot salsa is ripping hot! Loved this little hipster place. We took kids and grandma here, everyone enjoyed their food. The bowls had lots of flavor. I got the special Lebanese lamb bowl, it was excellent and very fresh and very protein packed. The hubby got the Korean BBQ bowl which he says was tangy with a Kim Chi flavor, he can't wait to try another flavor. My mom, whom is very hard to please, enjoyed her Bollywood bowl but probably would've preferred it a burrito. The kids liked their mini burrito bowls and I liked that it came with a side of broccoli or corn and juice or milk. They get five stars because have it all encompassed. We liked their decor and environment, inside and outside seating. There were things for the children to do and keep entertained. We enjoyed the microbeer selection and the chips and fresh salsa. The service was very friendly and attentive and had no problem swapping the beer when we didn't like the flavor. Plus, they recycle and compost everything! The only thing that bothered us that day was the flies that were inside the restaurant. But given it was warm outside and all the windows and doors were open, it was understandable. We had never been here before, but we'll definitely be back! They have tons of gluten-free options, including beer from Brewing Lair in Graeagle which is all made with less than 10 ppm gluten. I had the Pork Vindaloo special for about $10. It was so fresh and delicious! My man had the Paleo bowl with perfectly cooked green beans (a pet peeve of mine)! We had 2 entrees and 2 beers for $34. This place is amazing! There are so many healthy options on the menu that it was a little difficult to decide. Daisy ended up getting the Amazing Grace quesadilla, with onions, tomatoes, green chili's, corn and cheese. Dave got the DIY Taco bowl with rice, pulled pork, black beans, lettuce, guacamole queso fresco and the corn tortillas! The only thing I would do different next time is get a side of guacamole for the quesadilla. They make a really good guacamole! One of best places in No-Town to grab some great vegan food. I got the Holy Mole w/ tofu. And it did not disappoint. My wife had the corn chowder soup and salad w/ avocado lime dressing. Both were outta this world with goodness. The best part of this place is the people that work here really want you to have the best meal possible, and have no problems with making that happen. This was my first time, and I was having a hard time deciding what to get because there were a lot of things on the menu that sounded really good. I ended up ordering a green chile burrito with chicken and chips and salsa. The chips we could've done without, and I should've asked for salsa for the burrito, but otherwise it was good. The place is cool, I like that they have outdoor seating too. Ordering was a little confusing. We kept wondering if we were in the right line since there were two registers in use, but we were all quickly schooled by one rude employee to make one line. She was really rude. Well, this place reminds me of something you'd see in Santa Cruz, CA. Somehow, though, it feels a bit pretentious and hipster here. Either way, though, the food was reasonable, and the hand crafted root beer was great. Their version of sprite/7-up was quite sweet, but my husband loved the carbonation. I only had two real complaints: 1. I got a Thai Bowl w/Tofu and the Tofu was super rubbery. Like, almost inedible it was so rubbery. The flavor of the dish, in general, was nice and the peanut sauce had a great burn to it. I don't remember what my husband got, but it was a giant burrito with chicken in it. That, unfortunately, wasn't so good. I don't know what happened in the kitchen, but it tasted like someone had dumped an entire bottle of turmeric into his food. Which is fine for some, but turmeric is a bit of an acquired taste. The chicken was cooked well, and the tortilla wasn't stale which seems to be a problem in Reno. All in all, not a bad place, but not great. My husband won't go again, I might try it once more, but I'm not sure yet. They have loads of options in the vegan/veg-head department, but I get the distinct feeling that they've found a flavor and gone a little crazy with it. Where do you go to find a unique experience without laughing when you see the price of your meal? The Laughing Planet Cafe. As my wife and I walked over to this hidden diamond nestled off the busy street of Virginia, we see a tiny patio. Even though it is the middle of January and was not set up for us to eat out on, you can close your eyes and see it filled with guests on a warm summer day. They had music playing loud enough to enjoy it but quiet enough to have a conversation. As I looked at the menu, it was designed for those who are vegetarian or those that love meat. The special stood out for me. I got the Santa Fe. It consisted of baby red potatoes, Tillamook cheddar cheese, roasted green chilies, smart black beans, braised pulled pork, smothered in sour cream and a green chili sauce. As we walked to our table, the atmosphere was amazing. They had a display with toys and plants. Next I searched for the perfect table and was greeted by a dinosaur. Not just any Dino but a Pachycephalosaurus. But growing up I had two favorite dinosaurs, and to my disbelief, the second, a Parasaurolophus, was sitting on the next table over. So what to do? Look left look right and took him over to my table also. While we waited for our lunch, I shared a Snickerdoodle with my wife and went to grab my soda. This was the first time that I saw a machine that had real sugar cane soda in it. Yummmmm!!!!!!! Our food came out in a timely manor. As I looked at this special I had no clue where to start. The potatoes were cut into French fries like shaped that added a unique bite, the pork was tender, and the beans were amazing(not a big bean fan but these were great). I'm so glad I ordered the bowl instead of the burrito because I feel a tortilla would have been out of place. Tried it out today as one of us is now gluten free. They cant guarantee it but it is closer to gluten free anywhere else, probably. So she had that bowl and I had the special, the mexican themed bowl with the optional pulled pork. Choosing the bowl instead of the burrito version turned out to be the better choice because all the ingredients could be mushed around as I pleased and it was really yummy for a omnivore like me. Lots of varied ingredients. The staff was really cool with these newbies and the clientele was very eclectic with hipsters, an elderly couple, an executive, other middle aged guys and everyone else. The food is alright. Most dishes have a lot of sugar in them in the form of high sugary sauces, fruit and veggies like sweet potatoes. They are very willing to substitute anything you need, but the dishes are left flat and bland without all that sugar added to them. They are a chain restaurant (I thought they were independent when I visited) and have a large selection of fresh smoothies. (Not great if you are watching your sugar content in your food) They are a bit pricey for the portion size as well. Staff is not too knowledgeable about the ingredients in their food but they are willing to look it up in the big book they have by the register. 5 stars for the efforts of the staff!! read more

I travel for work and visit Reno & Sparks every couple of months. I eat paleo and found the Laughing Planet Cafe. I got the Paleo bowl and it was on point! Loved it! I also got their berry berry smoothie, yumm! Very friendly service as well. I do gotta say there was construction going on and made it challenging to find, but it was worth it. The tattoo shop on the other side of the cafe helped me find it. Looking forward to visiting this place every time I return. read more
