I don't give 5 stars lightly! i am in my mid-30's and have suffered from acme my entire life and no one was able to cure it until I went to Dr. Polis. Yes, she is expensive but when you compare it to all the dermatologist that I went to over the years (that did nothing for me), she is a bargain. I finally have the clear skin that I thought was out of my reach. What I appreciated the most was her willingness to listen to my complains about other treatments I went through and came up with a customized plan that actually worked for my skin. read more

What a crock. The doctor here, Dr. Polis, doesn't take any major insurance other than the one for models and actors but I was told she was good so I paid cash, a lot of cash, to help me with my skin. (I have acne). She not only kept me waiting in her examining office for over an hour while she ran around trying to take care of 3 other patients in adjoining rooms (all clearly scheduled for the same hour) but also told me that I should lie about using birth control and just get on accutane (accutane requires that you use multiple forms of birth control in order to use it because it is so harmful to fetuses). On top of that she pressured me to buy lots of skincare products plus buy two laser treatments each almost $200. When I came back a few months later to try and use them I was told that they "expired" and weren't valid, even though I wasn't told this when I paid for everything. Stay away. She's clearly a quack who makes her money doing "treatments." read more

Shockingly this place suggested to me that I buy my SkinMedica products off amazon when I called to schedule an appointment to speak to someone about what is best for me and then make purchases from them. Lady who answered the phone said they don't sell SkinMedica anymore but try Amazon for good prices. Really? The online retailer known for selling fake or expired products? That's your recommendation as a dermatologist practice? I will call SkinMedica to advise them they should remove you from their online listing of approved offices. Went in for my insanely dry skin to see what I could do about it. Dr. Polis didn't pressure me to get any super expensive treatments. I really appreciate that. I left with a new skincare regime with an oil cleanser from DHC and the TSN essential serum. Love it so far! read more

Don't. Just don't. I was there 2years ago to see a dr for hives. Last week I called to make an appt for a routine mole check. When I showed up, the receptionist vehemently argued with me that Id never been there, the dr I had seen didn't exist, etc. She kept running back and forth between me and the dr, and finally acknowledged that I had indeed been there, then asked me to write a statement saying the dr I had seen was not affiliated with their office and was no longer there. This bizarre behavior went on for half an hour--then I was told the dr would see me, but they no longer take insurance, and a routine office visit was "about $450.00". Something is very wrong with this place. read more

I went here in the 90s to have a funky mole checked. After telling me it looked fine more than once, I said it just didn't seem right and insisted on having it biopsied. To her surprise, turns out, it was a melanoma. Make sure you see a dermatologist who knows what skin cancer looks like before you make an appointment for a skin check. Many of these cosmetic derms are too busy filling people's faces to know the difference when they see it. read more

Total crook -- all Dr. Polis cares about is the money. I had three sessions of Fraxel a few years ago with her, and the results were underwhelming, but I kept going to her because I figured it wasn't really her fault that the procedure doesn't do much. Then on my last visit she starts pitching Fraxel to me again, saying there was an improved version. When I went to pay my bill at the end of my appointment, there was an extra $315 charge for a Fraxel consultation!! Note, I didn't book a Fraxel consultation, nor would I have agreed to pay for a Fraxel consultation if that had been proposed to me, but they had already charged it to my credit card and they refused to take it off! Absolutely outrageous. And yes, every trip there they try to sell you on hundreds of dollars of skin products... Save yourself the bitterness and go somewhere else. -M read more

Thank god we have an outlet like yelp to call a crook a crook. Went to see her because I had hives. Dr. Polis's diagnosis, "Urticaria" and it's untreatable. That will be $500. Went home and did some googling. "Urticaria" is the clinical term for "hives". Criminal. My father, a doctor of 30 years, wanted to report her to the medical board (or something like that). And on the way out... she managed to throw nearly $300 worth of face products my way. I bought a 1oz face cream for $100...what a sucker. read more

I went to Dr. Polis through a recommendation. I went there to ask about acne issues I have been having lately and what a load of crap. She sold me some creams and put on blue light for 20 mins and charged me $1000.00. YES 1,000. What did the 1k entail a facial wash that i can buy anywhere, sunscreen that was 200...then i saw ot at duane reade (I was dooped) and a moisturizer. As a man, walking into a dermatologists office for a "treatment" can be not the proudest and masculine moment of our lives. I have to say that Dr. Polis put any trepidation I had aside immediately. Dr. Polis is a delight. Friendly, professional and she does excellent work. I go to her for my annual skin cancer checkups, other dermatological problems and for Botox and filler. I've been seeing Laurie for over 20 years. She's the best dermatologist I know, simple as that, and although I travel constantly, I always come back to her when I am in New York. I've referred several friends to her, all of which have had equally positive experiences. To be honest, something disturbs me about the weird reviews on here simply because they are so opposite to what I have experienced - one has to wonder what the underlying motives are. Laurie is, and I mean this as the biggest compliment one can pay a dermatologist, a minimalist in her approach, meaning, she doesn't do unnecessary stuff and you always leave looking natural, and still yourself. No crazy up-sell, no unnecessary procedures, etc. I've had Fraxel several times, and the results each time have been phenomenal. Highly recommend. read more

I don't think it's possible for me to love Dr. Polis, Jill and Joanna any more than I already do. They are worth every penny and I could never imagine having to see another dermatologist. When I moved to NY a year ago I had visited another dermatologist that was cold and uninviting (One of those Park Ave slightly snobby doctors) . I'm so lucky to have found Dr. Polis and her team they welcomed me with open arms. They listen to me and take their time. I never feel rushed or that I'm not the top priority. Dr. Polis had promised me a referral discount on future treatments for referring her to so many other people including a woman who travelled from ENGLAND and had a very expensive procedure done (I know she spent roughly $1,000 or more - not even counting the travel costs -!). The hemangioma reappeared after only less than a year. After a few years had passed after that, I had the money to see her again, but then Dr. Polis informed me my discount "expired" - what?! Really?! AND NO discounts, nor any other honoring of my previous graciousness. Anyway, part of the discount had been promised also because my hemangioma had completely reappeared under my eye after Dr Polis had treated it several years ago. A plastic surgeon (Dr. Elliot Jacobs) had explained to me that it should not have. Anyway, Dr. Neigel in West Orange treated my hemangioma about 2 years ago, and it hasn't reappeared - at all:) To be fair, Dr. Polis DID remove some veins under my eyes that did not return and I'm grateful for that! That being said, Dr. Polis could have simply offered me a discount of some sort - to treat the same problem that she did not permanently remove the first time. I went to Dr Polis for Juviderm ($850!) and the same thing happened to me. I asked if she does Fraxel, she gave me a one minute overview and when I left I was charged $350 in consultation fee! They refused to take it off. I tried to reason with them and asked to at least put it towards a treatment but they said no. I thought about reporting her too. She is professional and yet down-to-earth; knowledgable and direct, but also comforting in her feedback. Although her office does sell top of the line skincare products, she is very cognizant of patients' budgets and has a host of recommendations for beauty regimens at all financial levels. Though I am a woman in my mid 20s, she works with and can easily connect to people of all ages. Her office is located in a fun area of NYC near lots of public transit, which is convenient for me. Dr. Polis' staff is also incredibly welcoming and professional, and it is wonderful to visit an office where one sees the same people working there for many years and who remember your name. I have been going to Dr. Polis for 8 years. She is incredibly skilled and an absolute delight. I feel very lucky to have found someone who is able to administer youthful injections in a natural way. It's important if you are going to have any kind age treatments to your face that you understand it's not about the amount of product the doctor uses. It's about the skill and experience they possess. The ability to understand the muscles in the face and to create custom solutions that work for your look. This is not an apples to apples kind of treatment. The reason why so many people look bad who get injections is because they don't go to experienced people. It's more of an art than a science. I've been a patient of Laurie Polis for now 15 yrs or plus. After such a long and disappointing search for a good dermatologist, I found Laurie Polis! My skin is extremely reactive, sensitive, prone to eczema and with very light acne... finding Laurie was the best thing ever.
