Far and away the cutest and best (in many ways) coffee in Kihei! Love the ambiance of the shop - super cute trinkets around the store, including a signed picture from the animator of Spongebob! We went here a couple of times for some local coffee. The first time our cappuccino was mostly milk but I don't think that was the coffee's fault. The last time it was better. But the servers didn't seem too happy either time... Who knows- maybe they were having a bad week. The coffee is good though so giving them the benefit of the doubt. read more

This was a daily stop for my wife & I during our stay on Maui. Such friendly staff and a relaxing vibe inside! There's some guitars to play if you feel so inclined, and one day there was even a couple dogs hanging out inside. And the coffee is absolutely delicious. We bought a couple bags for our rental, but still had to pop in each day for a nice fresh coffee! Definitely make this your coffee stop when you're on Maui!!! read more

Absolutely the best coffee in town. We're PNW snobs (tongue in cheek) so like to think we know but truth is we just drink copious amounts daily. And we did that here. Sometimes twice. Their caramel Mac nut mocha is top shelf. Service is great. It's the perfect vibe and a great brew. Plus anywhere that has 4+ guitars just sitting idly by for plucking tells you they know whats up. I did an iced coffee with macadamia nut syrup (a must, not too sweet but just right) and a splash of 2%. The frozen mocha is an absolute must, perfectly smooth and delicious. We were waiting for the snorkel rental shop next door to open when we smelled coffee from outside and wandered our way to Lava Java. What an amazing coincidence for us because the frozen mocha and the banana bread were amazing. My family and I aren't huge coffee drinkers (we usually get frappuccinos or ice blended drinks at coffee shops) so we naturally gravitated to the frozen mocha (you can see it in large font on the menu board in the shop). We got the frozen mocha in a large and it was SO good! I love how it had little ice crystals in it (similar to Wendy's frosties) so it gave a good texture. The taste was also perfectly sweet and not an overwhelming coffee taste. My 11 year old brother hates the taste of coffee but surprisingly enjoyed the sips he had too. The large cup was smaller than we expected, but the straw was at least skinny to keep us from drinking it all in minutes. Even for my mom who's a penny-pincher, she said the drink was worth $7! Going along with her penny-pinching nature, my mom was hesitant to buy banana bread not at a bakery but it was also a great surprise for us! It was so moist and my dad isn't a fan of banana bread and enjoyed it as well. It was moist and smooth. The ambiance was cute and had lots to look at while you waited in line (which wasn't that long when we went on a Wednesday around 11am). Also there was only one employee but the line went by quick considering the one employee was doing it all! Absolutely enjoyed this place! read more

They have espresso, lattes, and local types of drinks such as cafe o'lea and frozen mochas. There are options to have maui espresso or other types of beans. I tried the maui espresso and the earthy taste with chocolatey notes made for a unique taste. I have had several types of coffee beans, and I have to say maui coffee beans have a distinct taste. The ambiance is very chill, the décor is Hawaii like, with art and ornaments from the island, with local art. There is limited seating inside, but plenty of options outdoors to stand and look at the beach. There are plenty of souvenirs both local and imports, with options to buy beans roasted by lava java. There are pastry options, but the selection is very limited, and there were no options for gluten free. They do however offer milk alternatives. The staff was friendly and educational, they described what the local drinks contained and how they were made. Really helped with our decisions. Me and my partner were able to try the coffees we like with maui beans, and we were delighted with the quality and experience. We look forward to going back when we are Kihei. read more

Some wooden high top counter type seating and some outdoor 2 seater metal table and chairs. Inside they have a spot with some couches and tables. Some friends stayed for a while and got some work done. There are lots of fun coffee options. There is not a whole lot if you want food or if you're a non coffee drinker. They also sell coffee bags to drink at home. There are places very close you could get breakfast and other drinks. There is plenty of parking in the lot right nearby. My husband and I recently visited Lava Java Coffee Roasters of Maui and were thoroughly impressed with our experience. We both opted for the drip coffee, which was absolutely delicious.
