The first time I went, I ordered the Cloud berry matcha and coco Pandan matcha but all the desserts were sold out. Both drinks were really sweet and couldn't even taste the matcha at all. It was very underwhelming and tasted like drinking sweetened milk. I went another time and gave it another try. This time was less busy and I ordered the coco Pandan matcha again and my friend got the strawberry shortcake matcha. The coco Pandan matcha had improved and there was a good balance of matcha, you could actually taste it this time. However, the strawberry shortcake matcha was again way too sweet and only tasted like strawberry. Even after rigorously mixing the drink was super thick of mostly strawberry jam. The desserts were pretty good. We bought the matcha jasmine and lemon dessert. The matcha jasmine dessert was pretty good, light and fluffy, not too sweet. My friend and I decided to check this place out because of how pretty the cakes look online. We decided to get the Matcha Jasmine and Mango cakes to share. Both of them tasted delicious and not too sweet (which is my preference for sweets). I liked how light the Matcha Jasmine one and the strawberry insert was a nice surprise cause I didn't fully read the description. The mango was also yummy with mango pieces inside. The only gripe I have is that each cake was quite pricey: the matcha jasmine was around $9 and the mango one was $12. So I would only go back to try the other types and have to share it with others to make it more worth it. Since the desserts are already made, it didn't take long to get our order. I was super excited to check the out but I fell short in what I expected. Their pastries are extremely high priced for the size and taste of them. What brought me in was their campfire hot chocolate and when I saw it, just by looking at it I was disappointed mainly because it looked nothing like the photos or videos that they promoted. I got 2 hot chocolates and 5 pastries and spent 80$ I thought it was pretty steep considering they had no prices to show you what everything cost. Sooo last week I celebrated my birthday. And I felt like I deserved a beautiful dessert. After an hours drive from Baltimore I was here at Layered. The desserts are incredibly beautiful. However, there's no menu, so you won't know the prices until you reach the register. * my bill was $40.00 total with each pastry ranging from 9.00 to 12.00.* The ambiance is minimalist with a touch of sparkle from the chandeliers. If you live in the area it's a great place to do some work or study. They had a limited selection of savory options to choose from: the hotdog bun, the onion bun and the garlic cream cheese croissant. I wish they had come heated up because the hotdog was cold. *I noticed the microwave after I ate the hotdog* but I wasn't informed that they had one. I ordered the Hotdog Bun, the Lemon and Matcha Jasmine. They were all soooo good. The lattes take an incredibly long time to make.. the slowest baristas I've ever seen.. super nice but super slow. I ordered at 2:13 p.m. and received my latte at 2:39 p.m. I ordered the Tiramisu Latte. I was told it's the most popular. The fact that Tiramisu is a coffee dessert the latte tasted like a latte ... not a bad latte. But for me there was nothing special about that particular drink. When I return I would like to try the Banana Bread Match. What I thought was cool was the open kitchen concept. You could see the pastry chefs making their edible works of art. Overall, was the cafe worth the drive? Yes. The vibe and atmosphere are a 6.5, the drink wait is a 1, the latte is a 7.5, the desserts are a 10, and the hotdog bun is a 5. Layered has been on my list of places to try from the moment they opened! However, I kept hearing that they had a shortage and there were specific times of the day they would drop more desserts. I didn't want to deal with that so I kind of just waited for the hype to end. I had very high hopes for this place as the desserts all look incredible! Truly every single one is a piece of art. However, I was sort of disappointed in their taste. The lemon one was wayyy too sour to enjoy, it did not have the sweetness to balance out the sour filling on the inside. This was my least favorite of the ones i tried. Same with the mango, it just left a lot to be desired. The inside filling was a bit lack luster, and wasn't very flavor-packed. It just didn't taste mangoey enough, if that makes sense. My favorite was easily the chocolate dessert and the only one that actually felt worth paying the hefty price tag for. It has a chocolate mousse filling, with softer chocolate layer and a base with crunchy elements. These desserts are not cheap, so it's a bit disappointing to pay as much as I did and leave feeling unsatisfied. I can sort of justify the cost given that I'm sure it takes a lot of effort to make these; but I would recommend going back to the drawing board for some of these desserts. The inside space was not super big either. But I would consider trying coffee and maybe sticking to the non-fruit desserts if I want to go here again in the future. read more

My friends said the wait time wasn't too long considering they went in the middle of a Saturday. The chocolate mouse and lemon desserts were my favorites. The lemon dessert was horrible - it was so sour, as if they simply added lemon juice to the filling and nothing else. It was nowhere near the delightful tartness you would expect from a lemon dessert. The mousse part had no flavor, and it was one of the worst desserts I have ever tried. Layered is good coffee shop, they have a variety of goods to choose from, salty, savory, and in between. I was excited for their cakes and got a mango and chocolate biscoff one. The chocolate one although looked great, but tasted bland, the mango one on the other hand was fantastic! It's a great place to work from, and good for family or gathering as well, think Eid morning after prayer gathering. The inside is modern and the staff is really helpful! This was a really cute dessert shop. I wanted to come here after the hype died down and the pastries were available at any time rather than the drop model they implemented a few months back. The desserts were beautifully crafted and realistic-looking. I also liked that they had all allergens readily listed on the signs, which was useful for my friend who was allergic to nuts. I got the mango pastry, which was very beautiful and had a tasty mango flavor. There was also a filling inside made with real mangoes, which was nice. However, I feel like the prices were pretty steep-my single pastry cost $14 after tax. Would I come here again? Sure, if I wanted to take an aesthetic pic. However, if I just wanted a tasty dessert, I feel like there are other places in the area that are priced lower and taste just as good. One suggestion to the staff: please make the TV menus static. Definitely wait until the hype dies down and after the improvements get figured out. I waited over half an hour and by the time I got to the front almost everything was sold out. I got the last chocolate ones and the only desserts left were the plain flan and cheesecake. I also tried their cloudberry matcha and it was really grainy. It seems they didn't even bother to sift the matcha. The chocolate desserts are way too sweet and the caramel in the center for one of them was very overpowering. I had wanted to come to check out this place for so long but knew I had to wait until the hype died down a bit. Finally, the day came and there was no more of the restock lines or times. There were so many options once you walk in to choose from. The outside is very unassuming of the vibe and aesthetic inside. You walk in and one side is giving old school library and foyer while the other side is giving nature cafe in japan. We opted to try two fruity ones as we were contemplating trying another drink. Ultimately, we tried the lemon and raspberry thinking they would be compatible flavors. The lemon had a chocolate exterior that needed to be cracked and the middle had a tart curd with a semi sweet cream to balance. We were half expecting the same for the raspberry but it was the opposite. The raspberry was more of a soft cream that was sprayed and had very mild curd in the middle. The raspberry was definitely on the sweeter side while the lemon was more of a palate cleanser. Prices are definitely steep for the desserts but worth trying amongst friends. read more

The dining room was full of people just waiting, with items coming out in tiny batches, one at a time. For a bakery café, I have to wonder what time they actually start baking. Many of us likely came because of their paid influencer ads on Instagram. I've heard so many mixed things about this place, but I liked it! Their fruit pastries are very cute but definitely overpriced. I tried the mango one, which was underwhelming for the price point but still a delicious cake. I appreciate how thin they made the white chocolate shell, but there was nothing particularly fantastic about it. The pumpkin one was less expensive and I liked it more than the mango one. I tried their tiramisu latte which was good and reasonably priced. It's on the sweeter side for a latte which I prefer. I also tried their coco-pandan matcha and that was so yummy. All the flavors were strong and went well together in the drink. It's a large space, so while there was a good amount of people, the wait wasn't long and it was easy to find seating. I was in the area and decided to came in n check this place out. While looking around at the pastries, I noticed there was no prices which is an automatic red flag. In most cases, that I sign the place is over priced. In the marketing world, this tactic used so the customer has a higher chance of purchasing something, rather than leaving. They see employee box up their goods, then at the register when they see the total, the customer is in shock. They feel bad/embarrassed to say they changed their minds due to price, so they purchase the items. Cause if they saw the prices to begin with, they more than likely would have walked out. Problem with this tactic is, now the customer feels cheated, even though they had the opportunity to say they didn't want it. I do not support businesses that do not post their prices. All that does is waste the customer's and employees time. You have all the other prices posted but not whats on display and what you're known for. read more
