What separates pizza places are either the ingredients, or in this place, what separates them is their crust. They make everything fresh right in front of you, pictures are below. Jennie took our order and she walked us through the menu. We ended up getting a big margherita pizza. My son got the 2 tomato slices, he isn't a big cheese fan. My wife got pepperoni, they have beef pepperoni or pork pepperoni. Mikey Love was really cool he came out and greeted me. My kids got a drink, and then guess what, their gelato was actually top tier. I went for pizza and found out the Geloto was was awesome. You go to a pizza place and then get gelato. They had vanilla and watermelon, it was so good. I got some for my daughter, I tasted it, and one of my self them one of my sons wanted some as well. Bernadette was making them and having a great time. I've been eating L&B Spumoni Gardens for as long as I can remember, and it remains exactly what it's supposed to be: loud, crowded, unpretentious, completely its own thing, and ridiculously good. The square slice is the square slice. Sauce on top, cheese underneath, crispy edges, soft center. Don't overthink it. Get one. Then realize you should have gotten two. The sit-down food is classic Brooklyn Italian comfort food, the portions are generous, and obviously you finish with the spumoni. This isn't precious food and it isn't trying to impress anybody. That's precisely the point. Brooklyn has changed about 9,625,247 times in my lifetime. L&B is still L&B. Five stars. Always.

Sometimes I do tip extra generously, but I don't want to feel like I was tricked into doing it! Looking thru reviews here, I see other people also experienced this, including people in small parties who were locked into the 20% when it should have definitely been 18%. :/ So close to a good experience, but ruined by tricksy billing.

I usually get delivery from this place and have really only been in the space once or twice. The space itself is tiny and feels like a cross between a pizza joint and an Italian restaurant. When I ordered (pasta) from LJ for the first time I was expecting something closer to pizzeria pasta -- overcooked with lots of cheese, but still satisfying. Layla Jones' pasta isn't that -- it's a legitimately solid plate of pasta. I like the rigatoni with tomato sauce and a little bit of mozz on top. The pasta is properly cooked and the sauce is solid and really good. Nothing fancy, just a good tomato sauce. The meatballs were a very pleasant surprise for me. They were nice and moist and well flavored. They definitely met my meatball fix needs. I had the pizza once and it was decent. I'm not the hugest fan of the flat/square style of pizza, so I was probably the wrong audience. Again, if you like their pizza style you'll like what they have -- the ingredients are good and they prepare it with care. This will continue to be my delivery spot when I just need a good plate of rigatoni. read more

Valentino's is a solid neighborhood pizzeria and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. They also have some great other things on the menu, and I highly recommend the zucchini sticks. Those were excellent and a must-try. As for the pizza itself, my preferences are a little different from how they prepare it. I personally like my slices a bit crispier, with a little more crunch on the bottom. That's just a matter of taste and not a knock on the quality. I also tried adding onions, and I probably wouldn't do that again. They use sliced red onions, which isn't really my thing. I tend to prefer onions that are diced and lightly sprinkled across the pie rather than larger slices on top. Overall, though, this is a very good local pizzeria with tasty sauce, great appetizers, and the kind of place that's easy to come back to when you're craving a good neighborhood slice.
