This WAS a wonderful restaurant. I believe there are new owners who have drastically raised prices, cut portions and switched to using cheap ingredients. We have been coming here once or twice a week since this family took over. Don't come her if you have trouble accepting an immigrant family working together for the American dream. We enjoy seeing the baby 'Crystal' growing up and son 'John(?)' working the register and tables. Oh and the food: never been disappointed except when we made a bad choice. They always 'customize' our choices the way we like: extra veggies, etc. One time the heat was off, big deal. This is a hidden gem. They serve pretty good American Chinese food but there is also a secret Asian menu that serves authentic Chinese food. This food takes longer to prepare so you are going to have to wait but it is really good. Sometimes the food is even seasonal and if they have it on hand. My family tends to call our order in early so its ready when we get there. I highly recommend the Salt and Pepper Squid or any of the noodle dishes or the hot pots, especially the fish and tofu hot pot. Its deep fried cod? and fried tofu then into a stew with veggies and gravy in a sizzling hot pot. Very yummy. Or try the pork chops with special sauce, sorry I don't remember the name. read more

The food was great, portions were incredible and I swear I had 5-7 meals. Their vegetarian options are great and the chicken is great too. Small family run Asian restaurant. I tend to get the Singapore Noodles the are fairly spicy and I can eat the entire generous portion. I pay for it later, but I love it. My wife gets either the General Tso's or Orange Chicken, both are very good but once in a while the breading is a little too thick. Both the wonton and egg drop soups are good too. The portion size was nice for the price, the place is clean and they were polite. However the food didn't wow me, I ordered the general tso chicken. The rice was hard and bland and there was so much batter on my chicken I'm not even sure if I was eating chicken or just the fried batter. Really good Americanized Chinese food. It's about as expensive as any Chinese place, but the food is really good. The portions are massive. Seriously. This place is very good, and quick. I ordered carry out today for the first time and we were all impressed. It costs the same as about any Chinese/Thai place averaging about $8-$9 per entree. The portions are massive. My gut wants to burst, and I still have two meals worth of food left. I ordered a spring roll. But got the egg roll. No big deal, because it still tasted good. The wonton soup was ok. I make it better at home. The Thai peanut chicken was very tasty. I ordered it hot, but it was pretty mild. I'll get extra hot next time. My son got the sweet and sour chicken. It was really good, and I like that they kept the sauce on the side, so it wasn't drowning in the sweet sticky sauce. I think his was the best. My fiancé got the Singapore noodles. Very tasty. Maybe hers was the best, idk. All of it was very good. And they don't skimp on the proteins, whereas most places load up on veggies and skimp on meat. The young man (by young, I mean probably 11 or 12, I'm assuming the owners son) was very sweet. Nice kid who even offered to walk my food to my car for me. This is probably my favorite Chinese/Thai restaurant in the royal oak/Ferndale area. Since it's close by, even better. Being a total Chinese food addict, I always try to hit up a Chinese restaurant or two when I'm out for frequent work travel. Based on the reviews I tried LC's Asian Kitchen and was incredibly glad I did. Best Chinese food I've had in Detroit. Egg drop soup was delicious, dumplings were tasty with not overly doughy skins and the sizzling beef with onions was fantastic. The beef was incredibly tender and tasty. The dining experience was incredibly poor. A little girl of an employee came up to our table and stayed for 15-20 minutes coloring, chatting, and watching a show on an iPhone that was extremely loud. I have been going to LC's for five years and they have always done a nice job, with generous portions. Their moo shu chicken is excellent. Their food is always flavorful with fresh, crisp veggies. Crab Rangoon is a favorite too. They have Thai dishes too, and while it can be a little different flavor than some other places that specialize in Thai, it's very good. If you are a tofu eater, they fry it nicely here. The owner and her family work super hard and they have had the most impressive safety guards I've seen in a restaurant for Covid precautions. read more

These guys know how to cook. Stopped in here for a quick lunch with some relatives on a random Wednesday. The place was empty but the owners were just hanging out near the back. Let me start with this. I love LCs. At its best, it's the best Chinese food I've ever had. However, I have a few issues that ultimately cost a star. I've had a number of combination plates, general chicken, Kung Pao, curry, and sweet and sour. But the absolute STAR OF THE SHOW is the hot and sour soup. The portion sizes and price are good. Let me break it down. First, the General chicken is incredible. When you bite into a solid piece, it's crispy, well breaded, and you can taste quality chicken. The sauce is has the exact flavor I was looking for, and it's slightly spicy. The problem is about only half of the bites are really chickeny. It seems like some of the batter just materializes and gets sauce on it and they toss it in there. Bums me out. Then, when I get one of the other options, like Kung Pao, the chicken to vegetable ratio is poor, and leaves me hungry. I wish I could get the general chicken every time. If there was chicken in every piece, I would get two meals out of it easily, and it tastes delicious. But the amount of imposter bites is just very annoying. the rice and egg roll with the combo plates are very good. The hot and sour soup is amazing. It's actually pretty rare to find a soup that you take a sip of and you say "wow that's actually both hot and sour", and the taste is perfect. I love it. Ultimately, I've liked everything I've had. But the general chicken has too many empty bites and the other chicken plates have too many vegetables that it doesn't feel like a real chicken dish. But the final note has to be this: the flavors are incredible. If they could tweak a couple things to increase consistency, this place would go worldwide. read more

I am so sad to have to write another review, this one not as favorable as the one from 2013. This place has gone through a change in management and it's very apparent. The last two times that we have ordered have been very disappointing. My usual go-to item here used to be the Szechuan chicken, it was always so full of flavor. Last week when I ordered this dish, I asked for it to be extra spicy. In the past it has had a good amount of spice, but I was in the mood for something more. It was awful. The only good part about this dish was the variety of fresh vegetables used. The dish had NO spice at all. The meat was now suddenly coated in something, not quite breading ... but it made the meat (that once had no coating at all) slimy and strange. The meal had no flavor, none. The crab rangoon tasted stale and was also nothing like what it once was. I used to love this place and I'm very sad that we're back to searching for decent Chinese once again. My only positive comment is that the staff was very nice and personable. read more

Since I have recently moved to Royal Oak, I have been on the hunt for a new take-out/delivery Chinese restaurant. LC's might not have delivery but they deliver on everything else. This is by far my favorite take-out Chinese restaurant. I typically order Chicken with mixed vegetables, it is delicious! The sauce is the right consistency and holds up for left-overs the next day. The take-out portions are huge, which makes it easy for sharing. If you are taking it home, head over to the Holiday market for a decent selection of craft beers. read more

I went here and got a carryout with a ton of options cause we were hungry and come on its Chinese food. The crab rangoons were good mix and flavor but they were burnt. The LC spring roll was really good. The dumplings were just bland. The Mongolian beef was ok and had mushrooms which was good. The orange chicken was just bland and the general chicken was more of the same. I thought it was going to be spicy but it wasn't. Overall this place is really nothing special. Excellent restaurant! Delicious food, generous portions and food is ready quickly. We regularly get takeout here and have been impressed with everything...lots of flavor! And nice to have such a broad menu. They are extremely careful during covid, too, with a redesign to the front of their building so takeout may be picked up safely through an inside window. read more

The young boy that have working behind the counter just looks like an absolute brat, he doesn't acknowledge you and he barely speaks a whisper, if you're going to get a thank you you got to listen for it. I was told 15 to 20 minutes but it was more like a half hour 40 minutes and he is NOT rushing to the back for your order.... slow turtle looking miserable. 1 star is way too generous. We should have left after seeing the signs posted that said if you order it, you pay for it even if you don't like it. We dined in. We ordered two meals which came with wonton soup and tea for one. The soup was fine. My husband's dish arrived, and 20 minutes later mine still had not. I got up to inform a man working at the counter that my husband had finished and they should cancel my dish. About 5 minutes later they attempted to deliver my dish which I refused. The man apologized and left our bill which did not include the charge for my meal as would be expected. Our server picked up our cash and then returned with a new bill adding $4.50 for the soup that was part of the meal I did not receive. I asked for the manager who proceeded to tell us how busy they are and we owe them for the soup. It escalated into an argument and the manager walking away while my husband was speaking. This was by far the most unprofessional, poor service ever experienced. Dine at your own risk! We will not return. read more

This place is horrible. The sweet n sour sauce in the ketchup bottle was so gross and runny they watered it down. I Had the sesame chicken and it had a horrible taste to it, like it was old or something and the smell made me gag. The owner didn't even know what kind of meat was inside the dumplings she kept telling me it was chicken but then admitted to me it was pork. I gave it a chance because of the reviews. Nice little family run place and our favorite Chinese food in the area - and we've lived here long enough to try them all. Classic American Chinese food - no big bold flavors but nicely put together comfort food. For anyone who grew up with the Jade Tiki as your yardstick (my wife) they are one of the 5 families from there. They are nice and accommodating folks when yo dine in but it's pretty clear carryout is the main business for them. Portions are huge, easily enough to split but we prefer to have the leftovers. The egg rolls and wonton soup (we add a little white pepper when we carry out) are the real standouts for me. The almond & sesame chicken are also family favorites. read more
