White Rock Coffee is one of many places in the coffee scene within the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex,…read moreand what makes them taste like hometown are three things: authentic hospitality, variety of different drinks and sauces that they make, and most importantly, the way they gave back to the community. I went to visit their original location on Northwest Hwy. conveniently located right next to the Dallas Police Northwest Division. Fun fact: did you know that they have a roastery next to their original location? How amazing! However, that one is by appointment only, so check with them for more details. Shoutout to the White Rock Coffee staff for welcoming us back with open arms, as well as introducing new drinks to us that were of high demand and interest. One, however, that really did catch my eye, was my all time-favorite: the White Rocker, which included two shots of espresso, whole milk, and their signature White Rock syrup. My friend on the other hand, got the Lone Star Latte -- chai with a hint of that White Rock syrup that they put in there as well! Because of their roastery, all of their coffee beans are sourced from local partners and cooked and roasted right here in the heart of Dallas. I'm just really glad that I was able to really catch up with the times that there are, honestly. I'll definitely be back to visit more whenever I'm in the DFW! Y'all have my support! :)

We ended up here after stopping by Well Grounded Coffee Co. right down the road. I can't speak to…read morethe food there, but upon entering that location (Well Grounded), there was a strong and overwhelming malodorous scent giving off vibes of cigarettes mixed with sewage, so we promptly left and came to Ascension! Ah much much better! Ascension Coffee, in contrast, smelled pleasant and was quite clean. Our server was helpful and friendly, though we did have to indicate / flag him over to bring the check. The table seating was pretty close together/ not the most private feeling. At a table spaced next to us, a couple was having a first date and we could hear most every word without intending to just with how close the seats are, but that proved to be sort of sweet and charming. It didn't really bother us, though it was distracting from the study we were trying to do together. We ordered drinks. My tea (flirt tea) had a strong, full, unique flavor I enjoyed a lot. The mug had a striking with the geometric aesthetic, though for some reason I found every time I drank it dribbled onto the table some with the angles; still can't figure why. The art in Asenscion was very distinctive, likewise angular, and fun to take in too. It wouldn't be my first choice for coffee shops simply due to the layout; I prefer a bit more privacy when I'm seeking a coffee shop, however the service and drinks we got were really wonderful! It also was SO much of a better option for hang places than Well Grounded just from the smell factor alone. If it wasn't so oppressively hot in July when we visited, the outdoor seating looked amazing / perfect! Last minor quibble, our table was uneven/ wobbly, as were the ones next to us. This was only noticeable as we were working on a book study.

Migas breakfast was awesome. The vinegarette was delicious with it, even better adding chaolula. The hibiscus tea was also super yummy. Small parking lot but there is parking on site so that's a plus.

When I played checkers here, I got stomped but at least there was pie to comfort me. I got the apple pie as I'm weak to the classics and it's one of the best pies I've ever had. The crust is so flaky but not dry and the apple filling wasn't overly sweet. I wish I got to try their crawfish or pot pie but alas it was sold out. But that probably means it's incredible and I have to keep coming back.

Both pies are served cold of course, and the custard/creams were thick and luscious. I loved the tang of the Texas lime, might be too sour for some but perfect for me. The custard is made with condensed milk, so it's definitely still sweet. The Coconut Joy pairs together coconut cream and Humble's chocolate pot de cream, which married deliciously together. Next time I'd really like to try some warm pies with ice cream! We were the only ones inside for a while, and it was such a nice space to just hang out; the tables had activities like checkers and dominos, and there was a bookshelf near the front door with plenty of reading material. Overall enjoyed coming here and eating in, would recommend!
