First of all, I apologize to Kali R. for posting with her name. My first time using Yelp and I have no idea how that happened. Now I see you log in first so here is my review and not Kali R. Sorry about that. To all who live in Los Altos and surrounding areas and for those frequently visit this business just as our family used to on a weekly basis. We loved their chicken soup and various breads. However quite recently about the end of February my daughter and granddaughter make their usual trip after their weekly library visit to go get some lunch downtown Los Altos. My 4 year old granddaughter ordered her usual turkey sandwich with no trimmings. They sit for what they thought the end of a nice afternoon. And as four year olds tend to do she takes one bite and opens up to eat the meat in the sandwich. Not an uncommon thing! Side note about our family - Our family lives in the 2000 elevation of Los Altos Hills on a ten acre parcel surrounded by open space. We are used to deer, coyotes, the occasional mountain lion, raccoons, rattlesnakes and of course the small creatures such as mice and rats. So we are well aware of the physical appearance of all of their scat (excrement's). So to continue and finish my complaint about Le Boulanger. My grandchild had already taken one bite and then opened her sandwich. Her Mom, my daughter, was shocked to see a rat dropping in her sandwich. She openly screamed and took the sandwich to the front desk. The clerk acknowledged what she saw, a rat dropping, and said "Oh my God! I will have to look at it." She then took it to the food prep area. My daughter then saw employees washing down the boards and such. She refunded my daughters money and apologized to her. She took her phone number and said she would give it to the manager. Later in the week a representative from Le Boulanger called my daughter and questioned her story. He did not believe her and said "she probably saw a burnt piece of bread". He continued to say that would never happen and that they have a clean restaurant. This was very disturbing to my daughter because she saw a rat dropping. And is well aware what one looks like considering where we live here the high hills. This rep asked her what she wanted. She told him that she only wanted to make sure that this doesn't happen again. He seemed to relax a bit and apologized but it was only after she said that. My daughter reported them to the food health agency. This rep sent her a $50 gift certificate which we gave away. I, grandmother and mother am thoroughly disappointed in Le Boulanger's reaction to this situation. We cannot ever bring ourselves to eat there again. I work in Menlo Park and used to frequent the Menlo Park location but cannot any longer especially with the attitude from Le Boulanger. We all frequented the Los Altos location on Wed nites for soup and Sundays. Every time we pass by the Los Altos my 4 year old calls it the "rat store". It's unfortunate but sadly true! One of the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce members is owner of Le Boulanger. I hope that you can reassure us because we have shared our story with many, many people to date. And to be treated with uncertainty is beyond my faith in believing that people should be trusted in their words. So to all, open your sandwiches first before you bite! I have been to the downtown Mountain View Boulanger as well; but I frequent the Los Altos location the most. The service at any of these chain locations is usually pretty friendly. The setting in the Los Altos location feels really old and out-dated. The food that I buy -- the chicken salad sandwich, the cinnamon rolls and croissants -- tend to be of poor quality and lacks taste. For example, the chicken sandwich was really hard and clumpy like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for at least a few weeks. It looked really old, too, and tasted really bland and hard. I have no idea what I was actually paying for when I ordered this sandwich. The cinnamon roll I ordered tasted like old bread with several spoonful of white sugar thing. Again, presentation looked bad, the taste was poor and I question the "freshness" of the pastry. What makes no sense to me is that the price-point for these items are on the high side, so, with higher priced foods, you expect more quality which Le Boulanger had repeatedly not delivered on. I might go back to get a fresh cup of Peet's coffee, but, not much of anything else. This chain really need to step up to the plate and improve; there is so much competition for casual bakery and delis around; customers do have many other choices about where to spend their money nowadays in the Bay Area. read more

Good, clean seating area. The counter staff are somewhat friendly. However, as a customer, the lunch food and drink items are very basic, limited and boring (soups, salads, etc.). Their pastry and fresh bread selection was also very limited and did not look good. They look a little sloppy and not as manicured for the prices they are being charged at. I know the cost of operating a business goes up each year, but, in general, and even with other locations of Le Boulanger, the price point is slightly too high for what you are getting. I will visit this place once in awhile if there are no other options, but, it is not one of my favorite spots and it seems to not try too hard to keep up with competition and the nearby casual bistros in Menlo Park. read more

Le Boulanger Bakery & Cafe is a good place to pick up fresh bread, or to have lunch. I love the pesto chicken sandwich and Dutch Crunch bread. La Boulanger has the best bread, and serves the best sandwiches and salads around. The service is fast and the ingredients in the salads and sandwiches are always fresh and have decent portions. I have yet to have a soup from them that wasn't delish. read more

Le Boulanger is consistent. I like the menu options.My favorite is the Thai Chicken Salad. I especially love the dressing and crunchy won ton strips. It is very filling and satisfying. My second favorite is the Sweet Strawberry and mango salad. It is served with spinach salad.Also very filling. I especially love the fruits. went for take out and thought the selection was very boring. It was the routine croissant and muffins I could purchase anywhere. I was disappointed that they use partially hydrogenated oil in their products. You have to ask to see the book of ingredients and though they claim no trans fats ( I asked the manager) the partially hydrogentaed oil was listed on the products i checked. read more

I ordered an everything bagel and got a raisin bagel. I was so hungry I didn't bother sending it back. The raisin bagel was rubbery, poor quality. I had gotten some Major Dickenson coffee and it was not right. I told the girl dump it and she did. The Cafe Domingo was OK...they need some management there. read more

Wow! Great food and pastry. I loved my shrimp melt with a strawberry, mango, and spinach salad. I can't rave enough about it. My husband had the Pastrami and loved it. Brownies are so moist and decadent. Wish I lived close, just here for the day. Highly recommend!!! read more

Friendly staff and tasty sandwiches. What more can you ask for? Le Boulanger was no where near crowded when I went (it was actually empty), so the service was very prompt. read more
