I went for our usual egg twist on Friday and the woman behind the counter said they aren't carrying them anymore. I'm really disappointed that they no longer sell egg twists! When I asked what happened, the manager said they decided not to sell them any more, she didn't have anything else to say! Of the several Le Boulanger's in the area, this one is the best and most consistent. My little sister loves the soupinabreadbowl, and I'm a sucker for the Margarita al Fresca every time. They're fast and very consistent. Sandwiches come with chips. read more

Ok so I recently had breakfast at Le Boulanger (a croissant sandwich). It was actually pretty good so I'm upgrading my previous rating.

Good soups, salads and sandwiches makes it an easy place to recommend. The bakery is also underrated. Nice place!

This place is always busy for lunch. I sometimes go here with children, because they do have good food. My favorite is the California Fresh Sandwitch and their clamchowder soup is pretty good, too. I just want to say...they have the best BLT I've ever had. Their breads are fantastic but their pastries leave something to be desired. If you want to avoid the attitude of los altos residents I wouldn't recommend coming here. read more

Awesome bread! Delicious sandwhiches and soups served in a cute bistro style setting. They also have pizza and pastries. This is an adorable place to go on a saturday if you happen to be down town. The service is slow but you can circumvent the line by ordering and paying on line. It's the best thing ever. If your hosting a morning group snack they have fruit rings which are priced reasonably for the number of people you can serve with them. In the afternoon I enjoy their several different salad combinations and have found their Reuben sandwich to be pretty good. I'd definitely order my lunch ahead of time. read more

The food here is decent--standard sandwich fare. I've been forced to come here many times because it's one of the only games in town for standard sandwiches reasonably fast. (Although I think I've come here for the last time finally). I'll echo what others have said about the service: it's incompetent. The online ordering system in particular is a joke--a bad joke. I finally got it to work (it crashed the many times I tried it before) and my service consistent of: a) going to the online ordering shelf when my food was supposed to be available; b) waiting a bit of time for it to be late; c) finally asking the folks behind the counter about my order; d) watching them THEN start working on my order and giving it to me. In order words, I would have been better off waiting in line and paying there and then waiting for my order to be filled. I've also suffered many other order losses here with the order by phone, and that requires waiting in the (potentially very long) line as well. I had a pastrami sandwich on my lunch break. The sandwich was pretty good but there was SO MUCH mustard I felt I was going to choke. The girl who rang me up didn't make eye contact a single time and when I smiled at her I'm pretty sure she rolled her eyes. There was no line when I arrived but my sandwich took 15 minutes. When I said thank you to the guy who prepared my sandwich he didn't respond. I'm extremely unimpressed by the customer service here because there wasn't any. Two stars for good meat. read more

Boulanger was once one of my favorite bakery cafés. That was back when Clinton was president. I forgot why I quit coming here, so I am here again. What a mess. I've been a big fan of bread pudding for a long time, and not too many places serve that dessert in the Bay Area. The French bread pudding is a delicious twist to a conventional treat. The condensed milk is rich, but makes the dessert taste so much better. I would order baked goods and sandwiches here for a work function. The co-workers would be very pleased indeed. What an unusual experience. I tried to order a new menu item, bay shrimp filled avocado. The girl behind the counter (as nice as she was) kept calling them sliders and insisting that I have a soda instead of the water I requested...I was very confused. In Chicago, sliders are mini-burgers. In fact, I'm pretty sure that all across the country sliders refer to mini-bugers or mini-sandwiches. 30 minutes for one bowl of soup? Really? I wasn't expecting fast food, but give me a break. While running weekend errands, I realized that it was almost 3PM and I was hungry. With about 45 mins. (including 10 mins drive time) until my next appt., I thought: "Sure, I've got time for a bowl of soup." How wrong I was. My order was taken quickly. Given the time of day, the line was exceedingly short, only two people ahead of me but it took ten minutes to serve the two people ahead of me, and another ten mins for them to tell me they were out of what I ordered. Okay... I took the 3 steps to the right to get a refund on my revised order (which cost a little less). In the intervening 90 seconds, they had served the soup orders after mine, but had not saved me any. I waited another five minutes for a bowl and a roll. When I finally returned to my table, they had already bussed my table and taken away my drink. I slobbed down the long-awaited bowl of soup, 35+ mins after I placed my order. I then made a run for the car, aware that I would be late for my next appt. This resto is VERY disorganized. I will not be back. read more

I have been going to the Boulanger in Los Altos for 12 years. Every week I buy a bran muffin. Two weeks ago, I was informed that no more regular size bran muffins are going to be available and that it was a corporate decision - based on profitability of this muffin in other locations. I would have given the cafe 5 stars except for the change in several of the baked goods. Most of the other muffins have nuts which I do not eat. Please bring back the bran muffins! Except for this, the sandwiches are very good and the people who work in Los Altos are very helpful. read more

The food is decent but the service is rather slow and a lot of the employees there insist in babbling away in Spanish having private conversations instead of taking care of the customers. Sometimes i feel like an unneccesary burden to them, inconveniencing their social lives. Anyway if they could just make the employees understand that it is the customers who are paying their wages and have a little better supervision this could be a good place to eat. read more

I'm kind of surprised at the positive reviews for this place. The bakery is decent & the "formula" is very good -- lots of variety for soups, sandwiches, baked items. But for me, it stops there. +'s: the clam chowder is good as are most of the salads. -'s: I find most of the sandwiches pretty bad -- most sandwiches are made with processed meats, with the worst being the turkey. I have actually opened a turkey sandwich to find "grey" turkey inside ... uh, nope. As noted by others, the sandwiches are also on the small side, especially when compared to other options nearby, e.g. Draegers and the Italian Deli down the street. The latter makes a fresh oven roasted turkey sandwich 4 days a week which is orders of magnitude better and bigger (and cheaper) than LaB's. Have also had problems with one of their chicken soups ... which sometimes contains grisly chicken. Agree with the general comments on lack of cleanliness and irregular busing of tables. This place could/should be much better than it is ... IMO, it's getting by on a great location and a good menu ... maybe the new bakery on 1st will wake this place up a bit. read more

Very good pastries, muffins, and coffee cakes - the blueberry coffee cake, almond croissant, and mini chocolate bundt cake are my favorites! Good espresso drinks too (they serve Peet's). I go in several times a week for breakfast items or bread for the house, and I'm always happy with the quality and the service. The people working there are friendly and efficient and work hard to take care of their customers. Spacious seating area too, both indoors and outdoors. read more
