Tavern is the right word for this joint with it's cozy vibe, reasonably priced food, and pretty cheap beer. Also they have buffalo calamari! Why has no one else thought of this? It's great! Actually it's probably good no one has thought of this because if it was more common, I would get it more, and my health would be worse. The pizza is good and the crust is thin yet crispy (legend has it so you can hold a slice and a beer at the same time). We split a small clam pie (nice and garlicky), a small margherita (solid, particularly for the price). I don't go to staten island much so it's unlikely I'll be back since I still gotta try the other pizza joints but Lee's Tavern is a gem. read more

We love the pizza. It's good and tastefull. Little small but delicious. As for the tavern, bad experience with kids. We were at a table and the bar was next to us. There was a giant game on and people were watching and exited. Some screams with words that we did not want our toddlers to here came out. We decided to not go there on game nights. Got a pizza with chicken and hot peppers, baked ziti, and some meatballs. Pizza was mediocre. The chicken didn't taste fresh and the crust was incredibly crispy--like a burnt piece of toast.. Not good. The baked ziti was decent, but personally, I think you'd need to put in a lot of effort to make cheese melted over pasta taste bad. The meatballs were pretty awful. They were incredibly hard and the flavors just weren't there for me. On the other hand, the staff is friendly and the prices are cheap. Oh my. That was damn good. So good, that if I were on death row, THAT would be my last meal. I've been repeatedly called a pizza snob by many, so you can take my word for it that Lee's Tavern serves up life altering pizza. It's a little unassuming place across the street from the Dongan Hills train station. I'd driven by countless times on my way to work, hell, I used to live within walking distance and I can assure you that I am kicking myself for never having gone here before yesterday. There is no sign outside, because. lets face it, places like that don't need a sign announcing it. They run on reputation alone. A cool tavern, filled with local life long beer drinkers and a whole lot of magic going on in the kitchen. Upon arrival, we took a seat at the bar and checked out the scene while the bartender did double duty as a waiter for a packed dining room. Adorning the walls were mounted deer heads, a photo of the owner (I suppose) and a 27 pound bass he caught on a fishing expedition in 2007 and the like. My kind of joint. The menu was simple, a few appetizers, pizza and various toppings, heros, and a couple of pasta dishes such as baked ziti. After getting our drinks, we ordered up a large cheese pizza and calamari with sweet sauce. The calamari came out first and it was excellent, absolutely excellent. The sauce was sweet and tangy and the calamari was well prepared and cooked to perfection. The pizza. In one word? Wow The crust was thin, but not too thin and had a flavor similar to saltines, which was unique. The sauce which was on top of the cheese just how I like it, was simply delicious. It was all I could do not to moan with pleasure with each bite. Lee's Tavern has secured its rightful position as number one in my top five favorite pizzas. read more

Three & a half positive. Its hard not to love a tavern-pizzarria, and this one is no exception. Furthermore, as is usually the case, this one is as local as local gets, favor-wise, never did I get the impression we weren't the only ones who hailed from the island on any of the occasions we dined here. That alone gets the place into positive review territory. The functional extra star is earned solely on the strength of the buffalo calamari, an exemplary version of the dish, and at the time of this reviews drafting, the best I have had. Unfortunately, it is the pizza itself which keep it from the extra half stat to a true 4 star rating. I suppose this could very well serve as a personal review of Staten Islands version of a white clam pie, as by every indication the one served here is considered one of the finest of the type. If you, like me, are lucky enough to be acquainted with the white clam pies served New Haven CT, and its environs, you are probably best off avoiding this boroughs rendition altogether. While the often earth shattering pies served up north brilliantly transcribe the essence of great linguine and clams into lightly cheesed or cheesless pizza-form, the cheese heavy and fishy tasting sloppy specimens found here seem like nothing less then Americaized sloppy messes. Furthermore, the waitresses recommendation of a chicken and hot pepper pie had as its centerpiece dried out chicken, which I more often then not find to be the case when chicken meets pizza. More traditional pizza fares better here, but I would still have to give a significant edge to boroughs old school pizza tavern legend Deninos in terms of quality overall. I will however be back, if nothing else for the buffalo calamari, and will avoid the clam pie here and most anywhere outside of CT moving forward. read more

I found the best pizza on Staten Island! I want to thank First We Feast for getting the word out about this amazing local find; they have never steered me wrong. I'm so glad that I decided to check this place out. At first the thought of commuting to Lee's Tavern was a bit daunting but now that I have tried their pizza, it was well worth the trip. My friend and I were greeted with a friendly face and were seated right away when we walked in. We ordered three bar pies: pepperoni, white clam, and the everything pie. The pepperoni was my favorite but I'm partial to this topping. In any case, the pepperoni was glorious; it was so thick that it curled up and formed little craters or oil and deliciousness. The white clam pie was also superb. It tasted so fresh that it reminded me of my summers eating seafood at City Island. The everything pie was loaded with toppings and required two hands to keep it from falling apart but that's the best kind of pie. At the end of the evening our lovely waitress gave us a free pitcher after hearing how far we had traveled and how much we enjoyed everything. I can't wait to go back! read more

Lee's Tavern is such a hidden treasure. I could easily walk right by without noticing this bar, let alone knowing they have amazing pizza. We tried a few things there but my favorites are their buffalo calamari. It is sour and spicy and crunchy! I love the unique flavor. They are also very famous for their clam pie. I personally think white clam pie is better because it is cheesy and creamy. The artichoke pie is also delicious. What makes their pizza great is their thin and crispy pie. It is not too greasy and goes down so easily with beer or soda. I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves pizza! read more

I've heard hat Staten Island pizza is better than the pizza in the city. With a statement like that, I had to see what people were raving about. LEE'S TAVERN does not disappoint! We ordered 5 different types of pizzas. They even messed up on one of the orders, allowed us to keep it, and made a smaller portion of what we originally ordered FOR FREE. It's a small hole in the wall type of place, but their food packs a punch. Their Buffalo Calamari was so yummy and definitely would come back for the Clam Pizza. This is the type of place you can hang out, watch a game, catch up with friends, and no one would mind it at all.
