Fairly mediocre cheesesteaks. Portions are big, but so are the prices. Cheesesteak with fries and a coke came out to almost 14 bucks. Part of that is they asked me if I wanted peppers or mushrooms. So sad what I witnessed in the Lefty's location on 8 Mile and Woodward. As I was preparing to place an order, I witnessed the owner/founder using profanity towards a customer. The customer made a suggestion to Sam, when he responded with "don't come back then if you don't like it, if you never come back I'm still going to make money, I own 7 stores, I don't give zero fucks about your money." I was excited to see Lefty's Cheesesteaks opening up. Not that I have ever been to or even heard of Lefty's before, I just like cheesesteaks. After a quick trip to the nearby Meijer, I convinced my husband to stop for lunch. The selection they offered wasn't huge, but it did have some interesting things, like a sub that's kind of like a Big Mac. We decided to go with the basics for our first experience. We ordered a cheesesteak with mushrooms, as well as their corned beef egg rolls. The cheesesteak was a pretty good size and it wasn't bad as far as flavor goes. It could have used a lot more cheese and a tad bit more sauce. If I ordered it again, I would probably skip the mushrooms. First of all, they were the canned type that tend to be a little chewy. Secondly, the bulk of the sandwich seemed to be more mushroom than meat. The corned beef egg rolls were really small , with not much filling at all. A lot of it was just the wrapper folded in on itself. They were definitely not worth the money. The service was pretty much unremarkable. I didn't feel welcomed, but I didn't exactly feel like they were shunning my existence. I'll probably give the cheesesteak another try, now that I know how to order it . I have been to the new location in Detroit on two occasions since the opening. The staff has a negative attitude except for the one older gentleman who works there. These is one gentleman that states over and over that he is the owner over and is pushy. The odering process on both occasions was a rush rush type experience. NO Masks. 4 young guys behind the counter. 1 had mask hanging off 1 ear. The cook had mask pushed under his chin. Two other workers AND the owner had masks on only covering their mouths. Only the owners wife wore mask correctly OVER her nose and mouth. After going to Lefty's in Dearborn for the last couple years that is totally not affiliated with the 8 mile Woodward Lefty's. I thought that it would never be a Lefty's that could compare with the one in Dearborn. I found a new love at 8 mile and Woodward Lefty's and it fast it's friendly and it's clean and the food is on point. The cooks are superb and take pride in cooking your food. Employees are great/friendly. I will be a loyal customer for years to come. Go there and I will promise you that you want be disappointed know matter what you get/eat. It is with great regret that I wrote this review. Most of that regret was about visiting this place. After hearing solid reviews about the cheesesteak from lefty's, I had to go try it. Even after viewing the reviews I still went. I thought that "meh... it couldn't be that bad". I was wrong. The service here is terrible. This is no sign telling you where to order. So naturally one would walk to the opposite end of where you pay being that it is a station creation style setup. As I stood opposite end of the counter in front of two employees whom were creating sandwiches neither asked if I needed help nor stated that the place you order is on the opposite end. Also the manager and I'm assuming the assistant manager was sitting in a booth behind me. Two people walked in after I did and ordered at what I thought was the just the cashier. I walked down to the cashier/order station and began to place an order. I ordered a cheesesteak. The cashier asked "what else did I want" so naturally I went on adding the "extras" that I wanted on my sandwich which she kept saying what else. I stated that's all I wanted on my cheesesteak. She kept asking what else. Looking at the confusion on my face she said "I'm not like them, I do it all together"? Firstly who in the blue hell is "them" and secondly what is "doing it all together". I figured out that she was asking if I wanted fries and a drink. Why not just ask if I wanted a combo or.... fries and a drink. Then the cross talk of disgruntled employees started. Shortly afterwards the manager is yelling commands from the booth. Then the light bulb went off. I shouldn't expect to be treated like a human when the manager can't even speak to his employees with respect or like they weren't cattle. Then the cashier didn't really know how to work the credit card machine. At this point I'm thinking this better be the worlds greatest cheesesteak because the service here stinks. I get my sandwich amidst the confusion between which order is which between me another customers. Opening it up, "this better be the cheesesteak of legends". Hands down the most uncomfortable I've been in a restaurant. A couple of nice women came in to get sandwiches and I was just behind them in line. The cashier asked me about my job when it was my turn and told me I qualified for a discount because of it. The women were slightly upset towards him because he never asked them if they qualified for one. Once they got their food and left, the cooks and cashier apologized for the behavior of the two other customers and then started talking very inappropriately about the women.
