Lefty's has been on our list of places to try for over a year, but our recent attempt to eat there will most definitely be our last. We made a reservation for 7:30 on a Saturday night and checked in with the hostess upon our arrival at 7:25. She told us it would be just a few minutes until the table was ready, which was understandable considering we were a few minutes early and they were obviously very busy. We walked into the bar area to stand and wait with multiple other parties. With no designated waiting area in the restaurant, the bar area was packed and quite loud. After waiting for over 20 minutes (well more than the few the hostess had mentioned at check in), and noticing very few tables had turned over or were looking like they were anywhere close to being done, my husband asked me to check in with the hostess for an eta. At this point, we were already 18 minutes past our stated reservation time and we were debating leaving to eat elsewhere if the wait was going to be too much longer, as we were getting very hungry . I approached the hostess stand to ask and a man standing with the hostess asked if I'd checked in. I told him I had checked in over 20 minutes ago but we were now almost 20 minutes past the reservation time. Rather than apologizing or offering an adjusted eta on when we could expect to be sat, he flipped to full on nuclear mode and in an incredibly condescending tone told me that if I want to eat good food, I'm going to have to wait and I can probably leave and go somewhere else that has an opening, but the only reason they'll be able to seat me is because their food isn't any good. I was shocked at his rudeness and arrogance, speaking to me like I was a clueless child who had never eaten in a restaurant before and that I should be so privileged to wait for a table in his restaurant, especially considering I wasn't yelling at him or being rude when I stated my concern. I told him to take us off his list and left. As people who travel often and who've eaten in plenty of fantastic restaurants, I am certain that we are not unreasonable in expecting a table to be ready or close to ready for us at our stated reservation time. It seems lefty's thinks that a reservation means you are reserving your right to put your name on a waitlist when you arrive, not reserving an actual table for that time. Had we known we were just going to be put on a waitlist, we would have reserved a table somewhere else, where we know FOH is managed well and reservations are honored. It was a shame because the food we saw coming out while waiting did look and smell delicious, however, the behavior of the man at the hostess stand was unacceptable. We will not support any restaurant that thinks it is ok to speak to people the way he spoke to me and we will be sure to tell all of our friends, family, and colleagues to stay far away from this place. read more

This was my first time visiting Lefty's at lunchtime; 1:30p to be exact and only 2 other tables were occupied. Bad decision. I ordered a crab cake and the Maine lobster meal. The crab cake was burnt on one side, the lobster was over cooked (like chewing gum over cooked), the roasted potatoes were so over cooked, they were dried out. I sent the crab cake back. The rest, I chalked up to lesson learned. In addition, the waiter tried to explain to me that usually one side of the crab cake is cooked more crispy. My response, "There's crispy. Then there's burnt." Add insult to injury, ydontcha. The 3 stars are because the food is usually good. read more

Excellent seafood. Fast, friendly service. Definitely GO HERE. Had the stuffed Snapper Cooked perfectly, light delicate, very filling. Lobster was fresh, hot, and perfectly steamed. They are pros. If your not a regular, don't expect great service. Avoid the oysters unless you can shuck them yourself! Food is good but the service and atmosphere isn't worth promoting this restaurant. Don't go unless you are a regular as you may be treated poorly. We go to Lefty's as a family once a year as a special treat during the holidays. I booked our reservation online in advance, specifically requesting the corner window table by the door where we had sat prior years. The same male host was there, who is mentioned in other reviews as being rude. We were no exception. It was early and the restaurant was largely empty. I explained that we had a reservation and had requested the corner window table that I noticed was available. He first said curtly "you must have made an online reservation" as if we had done something wrong. He then proceeded to explain "We have special guests who come in three times a week and that is where they sit. You cannot sit there." I immediately felt very "un-special" and took the smaller second table. Thirty minutes later the "special" couple arrived and sat at the table that we had requested and had been available when we arrived. We had an amazing waiter which made all the difference and the food was good as always...but the mood was still dampened by the curt host who treats regulars more special. Lesson learned...we will find another place to carry on our family tradition and it will be one that treats all guests special. read more

First time to Lefty's. It seemed busy, but the whole place seemed to be serviced by 1 person. It took forever to get greeted and get drink orders. So because it seemed like the waiter didn't have much time to talk to us, I asked him to pick for us. He most likely picked the most expensive thing on the menu, which was o.k. I would probably I would have preferred he told us what he was picking before he ran off to order It was a pasta with 2 small lobster pieces in it and other stuff. I was hard to taste any of it because it was covered in some sauce, which was overwhelming and the cut lobster was still in its shell. I think they could have done a better job with the service. It's seems like they have been there for a while. I am not sure we will return, simply because there are better options near. read more

Came here on New Years Eve for dinner with my girls. They wanted lobster for their NYE meal so I decided to try this place out. We each had the single lobster meal. It came with baked potato and your choice of broccoli or corn on the cob. The girls wanted the corn on the cob but don't like eating off the cob. I had to cut the corn off the cob for them and my waiter told me later that I could have asked for it off the cob. I would've done that had I known but when I ordered he said, "broccoli or corn on the cob?" I didn't know there was that third option. Overall good food. Can't really mess up boiled lobster I guess. Very quiet and small restaurant. We got sat down very quickly and I appreciate the decoration with tranquil ambiance. It's great for a peaceful dinner where you're craving seafood. We had the rock lobster, which was broiled very nicely also well seasoned. We also had the bucket, which gives you a good variety of each. For main entree, I had Lefty's 1lb Lobster for only $21. Yes, I know.... price is so reasonable!! It was delicious and came with their homemade garlic mash potatoes. I was told that Lefty's Lobster is a THE place to dine in Dallas and rated as the TOP TEN to dine according to "The Best in DFW" along with its numerous accolades from renowned foodie sources!! Bar staff is friendly. Lot of townies and regulars during HH. Cesar salad was ho-hum, chopped romaine, store bought croutons and a decent dressing. I came for the New England clam chowdah. Something I truly miss from my time in Mass. Found it to be a little watery, not bad but would of preferred a richer soup. More cream, more butter, good chowdah makes you think about your arteries clogging. But full of clams, so there's that. Better wines are by the bottle, start around $30, by the glass starts at $6.50. I just did not care for the crab cake, found it to be devoid of taste and watery. I wouldn't recommend this dish. Went to Lefties last Saturday with a friend from Germany. We had heard great things about Lefties. Service was good, it wasn't a very fancy place at all but most of the tables were full. The Chicken Saltimbocca was dry and the sauce mostly cooked off. The noodles had no taste at all. My friend had the Lobster and shrimp platter with a baked potato. Even with sauces and condiments, the lobster, potatoes and shrimp were basically tasteless. The only thing that was good was a slice of Coconut Cream Pie. It did not rescue the meal but it was good. The specials were awesome!!! Our appetizer was crab claws!! This was a cute and clever way to present these crab lollipops!!! Exposed succulent crab meat while holding onto the little claw. All in such a rich garlicky sauce!! Totally dippable sauce!! Almost regretting that we opted to not have bread to dip (Cutting down on carbs) ... sooo tempting!! Firstly, I fell in up a step in a darkly lit restaurant. If you are not familiar with this restaurant you CANNOT see the step and the upper level that are the same color of the floor in the lobby. I fell and badly bruised my knee. I was rewarded with a statement from the manager/owner "in the 7 years I have been here no one has fallen down". He never once checked on me to see if I was okay. The food was totally mediocre. My salad was totally tired, and the stuffing of the redfish was awful. We have only discovered this 25 year old restaurant this week! We've now been twice. There are 2 small tables outside, and my wife feels comfortable now just hanging outside, should we want to go for dinner, and the nights this week have been perfect weather thankfully. The selection of seafood is excellent - sea bass, halibut, salmon, etc., and there are chef specials nightly that change. The first time I had halibut and tonight I had the sea bass. I really do love good seafood. Addison is full of restaurants of many types and they do have some great seafood places (Chamberlains, Trulucks). I had lived in Carrollton for many years and knew about Lucky's, and passed in many times over. Doing a random search for dinner, we found Lucky's and decided to give it a whirl. Well, it looks like a seafood place. Cartoon lobster, check, lobster traps, check, misc. seafaring knick knacks, check. Yeah, it's not winning awards for interior design, but you really want to know about the CHOWDAH and the fish. The Chowdah was creamy and had great flavor and was full of potatoes, but you did have to search in order to find the clams, they were there, but there should have been more. As for the main courses, two snappers and one trout. I should have had the snapper. I'm not saying the trout wasn't bad. It was a cajun spiced trout with crawfish remoulade. But it was a bit too charred for my liking. I tasted more char than fish..... so that wasn't so good. The remoulade had nice chunks of crawfish meat in it, but needed a little kick to it. It was a bit mayo-e. As some other reviews have mentioned it took awhile to get our food and the places wasn't even that crowded.
