I've been coming here since I was a kid and it's always fabulous and consistent. Came here for my birthday over the weekend and it didn't disappoint. Ordered the crispy spring rolls (wrap them with the mint; so tasty) and then had the lemongrass chicken for my main course. Love the sauce that comes for dipping the chicken in. Highly recommend. For dessert we got the vanilla ice cream with I believe it was Vietnamese coffee. Even though we were pretty full we ate it all because that's how delicious it was. The food was bland, i got the pad thai, extra spicy, it was at best mild, they need to rename their spice levels. The thai icetea for 2. Was a bottle of thai icetea. They really need to work on their labeling on the menu for postmates instead of trying to look more then it is. The service was horrible, at first i tried to set down to eat, the hostess said they only had bar seating so i head to the bar, the waitress literally hissed at me those are reserved. Which made me decide to leave and just postmate the order and eat in my car. 100% not worth the effort to go, and definitely not worth getting hissed at by someone because you had no clue a seat was reserved after the host said is anywhere you like at the bar. Our second visit and with the same friends from 6 years ago, we arrived at Lemon Grass with my parents in tow this time. However, since we each ordered our own entrée vs. family style, I did not get a chance to sample all the beautiful dishes I took pictures of so will try to review the ones I did eat or taste. Last time I mentioned that Lemon Grass reminded me of Slanted Door which is my favorite restaurant so of course I had to get the shaking beef. If I closed my eyes, I would've thought I was eating the Shaking Beef at Slanted Door, it is that good!! Just like SD, the spring rolls which are fried are meant to be eaten with some noodles wrapped in lettuce with a splash of sauce. Non fried rice paper rolls are called salad rolls here so make sure you know what you are getting. Although good, for the same price, I prefer the spring rolls. Chicken satays served with Thai peanut sauce were also tasty and much needed to line our stomachs with all the good wine we were consuming. Ten Tigers - Reasonably priced at under $20 for 10 shrimps/prawns beautifully cooked and served with a softer tomato rice. Ahi Special was a bit more cooked than expected when left up to them to decide. However, they are flexible in making it rarer if you prefer. The New Zealand rack of lamb special I personally did not taste but had to mention that the way my dad was quietly eating every morsel of it without a peep for half an hour was testimony enough. Overall, since we don't eat much spice, we stuck with mainly the Vietnamese selections. As for price, this is another place that would be a matter of perspective and may depend on what you order. If you are here for pad thai and comparing to Thai restaurants, it will seem on the high side. If you are comparing to lower end Vietnamese pho houses, again, you will think this is pricey. However, if you are comparing this to Slanted Door as Lemon Grass uses Niman Ranch beef and Duroc pork when available, this is reasonable. read more

Went here on 5/18/2018 with a friend. Ambiance: Outside seemed pretty nice, even picturesque. Inside was well lit and very colorful. Service: We were greeted by the manager right away and given a few options for seating, although the place was very full. Our waitress was very informative about the specials and attentive. Cleanliness: Bathroom needed work - the floor was very dirty and needed to be deep cleaned. One stall was out of order and had a typed sign apologizing for the inconvenience. There was a store bought hand soap in place of the non-working soap dispenser. There were noticeable layers of dust on the room divider near our table. Other parts of the restaurant looked decent and kept up. Food: Ordered 1 appetizer - the Lemon Grass soup. It was delicious, although the veggies seemed to be thrown in towards the end. The broth was flavorful and spicy. 2 entrees - Hot & Spicy Chicken and the Pan Seared Basa. Very aesthetically pleasing. The smells were also very enticing. The sear was great-very crispy. However, both entrees were bland, very lackluster, no salt and not spicy. My fish literally had to be dipped in the sauce that accompanied it to be palatable. I was disappointed to say the least. Seems that the patrons that frequent this place are older and have been coming here for quite some time. Perhaps the food is suited towards their taste buds. Overall: The best part of the experience was the $5 soup. I will not be returning. This restaurant appears to have been great in it's heyday but that time has come and gone. We noticed that it had received a "conditional pass" prior to receiving a "pass" from the county health inspector. I'm sure they are aware that there are some areas for improvement. If Chef Mai Pham reads this - please invest more time/attention in this restaurant!!!! Bring it back up to the standards you would be proud of. You better have 3 hours for dinner because the service most likely from the kitchen is unbearably slow. It did not help that the waiter was handling by himself the entire dining room, maybe he had 1 bus person at times. We had to take care of the check on our way out at the hostess desk even that procedure took a very long time. Food is always good but it does lose all of its flavors while you wait for 55mn to even get your first course. This was our restaurant of choice for decades to celebrate our special events and meet with friends and family, but since it reopened after Covid, the white tableclothes are gone the entire feel of a sophisticated restaurant disappeared and the service became so casual that it is more like being in a cafe. Probably my favorite non-steak restaurant in Sac(they do have a steak on the menu). Always fresh, pungent flavors that you end up craving on a later day. Love this spot for a date night or a nice dinner with friends/colleagues. Lemongrass chicken, fish in a clay pot, lemongrass soup, their salad and even the bar are fantastic. I am always down to try out Thai restaurants; especially in different areas. Lemon Grass was the closest restaurant to my friend's apartment in Sac so we decided to give it a try! The place looked pretty fancy - We thought we were under dressed! When you walk in through the entrance, there's a bar where you could also order food with your alcoholic beverage if you don't want to be seated in the dining area. Our waiter was very informative and attentive. Food was a bit pricier than I thought it would be, but maybe it was because we came in around dinner time. I ordered their green chicken curry with brown rice and my friend ordered their Shaking beef. The curry was sooo tasty even though it looked like yellow curry. On the menu it said it was spicy, but it had just a little kick so I was able to add some extra chili sauce to it ;) It was probably the best "green" curry I've had. Serving size was pretty big. I couldn't finish it so they packed up our leftovers and even gave extra rice! I will come back again to try their desserts and maybe come around lunch time instead. read more

We are huge fans of Lemon Grass and have been for years - the food is always fresh, delicious, and bursting with flavor. We live near San Francisco and every time we visit Sac we order from Lemongrass. Oh my goodness, those crispy veggie rolls always impress and we've never found anything like them at other restaurants. When we got engaged, we reached out to Lemon Grass to ask if they could cater our wedding in Sacramento. They agreed and we met with Mai and Tyler to map out a menu of vegetarian and chicken dishes. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, Tyler went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly and walked through the whole plan and schedule with us. On the day of, he personally came over with trays of delicious food and dozens of sauces and helped the staff prep everything to the same standards as the restaurant. They were a smash hit - our guests were blown away by how delicious and fresh everything was. Having them cater made the day even more special for us. Lemon Grass remains our favorite restaurant in Sacramento. If you're in the area, stop by and try their food. You won't be disappointed! read more

We ordered Pad Thai and the Green curry. Pad Thai was filled with fresh vegetables, loved the shrimp and chicken in it! Green curry was SO FLAVORFUL! Loved the creamy yet spicy dish. Will order this again! Rice was perfect and had plenty for two servings. Pickup was easy and appears they have a cute patio area to eat too! If you're looking for a casual dining experience, at a mom & pop run restaurant, this definitely isn't the place to visit. However, if you're looking for a more formal, business-casual environment, then this may work for you. BEEF SALAD is what i came for. the tangy dressing and perfectly grilled beef! the only location i can now get it--- (they used to sell it @starginger and when @la bou had a lemongrass attached on howe). its been awhile since i had it. but its still super good i just wished it had less cabbage and replaced it with lettuce. felt like it was supposed more of a side salad. cost was $14.5 lil steep. i wanted to try a couple other dishes but some curries were about $30. ill pass. read more

This might have been a good local Asian restaurant with Vietnamese and Thai influences, but it presents itself as a suburban specialty, with suburban pricing. I have no problems with the food or the service, but this is a common restaurant posing as a something unique. We had a private room for our group, which is an advantage that few restaurants offer. And the wait staff and bus people were very attentive. Many of us chose the special, a seafood curry, with brown rice. The average price for an entrée was about $15, high for a neighborhood place, but in the range for a suburban cloth-napkin joint. And the special was pleasant, with a subtle curry. But the server neglected to mention that it was $25, and none of us (regrettably) asked. My wife was wise, and chose a $13 Pho, nicely-prepared, but not much more than ordinary. The wine list was well-chosen, but I ordered by name instead of by varietal, and my Fess Parker was a nice chardonnay, not the red I desired. But the food does not stand out, other than being very good renditions of some traditional dishes, and when we woke the next day and realized we spent $60 on casual food and one glass of wine, we wished we were back in Oakland at the local neighborhood joint in Dimond Lake that was more imaginative, and fed several more people for the same amount. read more

I've been a loyal fan of Lemon Grass for years and when I was looking for a special place to hold a celebration of life for a dear friend, who also loved Lemon Grass, they were extremely accommodating! We had a family style meal with multiple appetizers and entrees. Everyone raved about the food and loved the ginger ice cream. The service was superb and they made sure any special needs were met. You get four with an assortment of fresh herbs with rice noodles and lettuce to wrap around the egg rolls. There is also dipping sauce. I liked the combination of fresh herbs paired with the crispiness of the egg rolls. Also had the grilled prawns with rice noodles ($13). There was an assortment of mushrooms, chopped herbs, and other goodies with roughly 6-7 prawns on top. I was hoping the rice noodles would be vermicelli, but it was the thicker variety. It was good, but not fantastic. Since the sauce was already mixed in, it seemed a bit too soggy. Mondays & Tuesdays they feature "Saigon crepe" - ban xeo ($13). I didn't get a chance to try it - not a great idea to sample your client's food when meeting for the first time - but it looked good! By 6pm many groups came in and tables filled up. Enjoyed the nice decor in the restaurant & service was great. Portion sizes were good. Almost don't want to write this review. I was a bit shocked to see that this restaurant doesn't have a higher rating. My husband and I live in the neighborhood and this is one of our favorite restaurants. It is consistently good. You cannot say that about too many restaurants. The ingredients ALWAYS taste fresh. Occasionally, they make a mistake with our order. It happens. However, they always hold themselves accountable and make it up to us. Unlike other restaurants where we have gotten take out, where they pout and deny their mistake (what is it with take-out orders?). It has gotten to the point that some of the restaurants we have liked, we don't get take out anymore. Consistently, orders are screwed up. Not Lemongrass. Tried and true. I went to a work-related dinner conference here recently and had the seared ahi special. It was okay, but nothing that really stood out to make it a memorable meal. The ambience in the meeting room was nice, and the service staff was fairly attentive. The meeting room could seat maybe 15 people or so. It's a place to keep in mind if you need a room for a group event. Dessert was vanilla bean ice cream and strong coffee in the same bowl. Quite nice, that! The prices at this restaurant seemed rather high for average fare. The food that I saw served seemed attractively presentedl. Perhaps I just ordered the "wrong" thing on the specials menu. It'll probably be a while before I go back here. The restaurant might be trying for a "middle-of-the-road" space when it comes to flavoring so as not to turn off those with less adventurous taste buds. Beautiful restaurant and great food. I had the Chaing Mai Beef Salad and it was delicious. It had just the right amount of heat and flavor. I loved the mint and the tenderness of the beef. For dessert I had the trio of sorbets which included coconut, mango, and passion fruit. read more
