Decided to take my hungry family out for Sunday breakfast. As expected, the place was busy and busling. The smell of bacon and all the stuff cooking in the kitchen is very inviting. We made perfect timing and got seated quickly. Service was fast and friendly. Charming Tuscan decor. Nice menu, wonderful variety of pancakes and waffles. Same for the specialty eggs and omelettes. After having a horrendous experience at the DMV in Oakland, i needed fuel in me. Saw that this was down the rode and we were en-route. It looks very new from the outside. There was a small sign upon entering stating you can BYOB, which was a plus. The inside was mostly booths which i love. It was not too packed on Saturday around 1pm, sat right away. I looked at the menu and immediately wanted a cheeseburger. All of the burgers come with a cup of soup. I've never seen that at a diner before in New Jersey, it was a nice surprise. I ordered the cream of broccoli and it was heaven! .A very generous cup too.The burger was cooked perfectly and had a great char on it My sister got a shrimp salad wrap. Big pieces of shrimp with lettuce and tomato were delicious. That was accompanied by waffle fries. The waffle fries were the tits! So good. My father ordered eggs with toast, he ate everything. Came in for breakfast and got an omelet, which was pretty good and standard. Waitress was alright, a bit slow on the coffee refills. Everyone seemed satisfied with their egg dishes but no one was particularly wow'ed. By December 28th, Christmas music should no longer be playing. Let alone Christmas songs that sound like they were recorded by child stars on the Disney Channel. Also, the decor in here is a little odd. I had a view of the ladies bathroom door and had to stare at the little clay sign of a schoolgirl with her legs twisted up and her hands on her crotch. Lenape Valley Grill is a charming, clean diner with good service and good food. I've only been there for breakfast, but everything my group ate was very well prepared and tasty. Service was at times awkward and slow, particularly when it came to water/coffee refills. This is a solid choice, at least for breakfast. The upshot: good, but nothing too special. read more

It's a dressed up diner and very casual. The food was what it was...which was: Burgers...two beef and one veggie. Each of them were fine, with the veggie burger being a Dr. Praeger's brand which I happen to enjoy. I subbed my fries with waffle fries, which were great...but were brought almost 10 minutes after the burgers were brought out due to en error from the kitchen. No big deal...they were good. Soup was included with the burgers, but unfortunately only offered ones with meat and fish in it. I tried to get a small salad swapped for the soup instead, but the server informed me that he wouldn't be able to. This is a "diner" in search of an identity. They call themselves the "Lenape Valley Grill". The name is taken from the Lenni-Lenape Native Americans who inhabited the area before the Europeans arrived. The decor is somewhere between French countryside and Mediterranean village kitsch. The food is adequate, diner style fare without much creativity. My turkey burger was an obvious frozen pre-packaged piece. The slaw was gritty and overly sweet. My companion's crab cake was more bread crumb than crab with everything ground and not much texture. The problem comes from the attitude of the wait staff. Cold, uninterested, uncaring with a touch of discriminatory disdain. Our server was more interested in complaining to other staff about her pay than paying attention to our needs. When I mentioned to one of the management what I felt was an obvious improvement to a menu offering, I was told (in no uncertain terms), "This is the way we do it. If you don't like it go somewhere else". That is what I intend to do in the future and I suggest that everyone else does the same. When business drops off, perhaps new management will be brought in to create an enjoyable venue. read more

Took a long, scenic road trip from NY and were ravenous when we got to these parts. We saw the word diner and pulled right in. Sometimes diner food just hits the spot. This place elevates it and clearly everyone in town knows this because the place was mobbed. Regardless, our server was funny, friendly and efficient and the food quickly arrived. Hubs had a Philly style chicken sandwich and I had a Greek chicken panini. Both were delish! Really nice surprise! read more

Four star food in a setting that somehow fails to deliver on expectations. Better than most diners, I could tell the waffle fries are cut fresh because some of them were still stuck together. Not sure about some of the other stuff - the chicken tastes like frozen, pressed slices for example. Portions are generous overall, so you get a good deal in terms of quantity, and the quality isn't that bad. Odd note: Someone at my table asked the neighboring table about their breakfast. They said the pancakes were good, but were not keen on the sausage, even though it was very much not that frozen product you get at most diners. Other quirks, which I might call foibles: There's not a lot of dining space in there, which is exacerbated by all of the tables being fixed in place. It's impossible to accommodate more than one large group - our 8 person group ended up split between two tables, even though there were plenty of empty seats in the restaurant. So don't plan on coming here unless they're willing to reserve you adjoining seats. There's some odd, out-of-place decor, most garishly a stretched .jpg of a tiled Mediterranean floor painted on the ceiling. That alone deserves a 1-star deduction; it's frightfully ugly. Remove the faux Greek trim and it becomes a very nice atmosphere, or go all-out gaudy like a NJ diner, but this place hovers in between without an identity. In the same manner, it's not open 24 hours like other diners, and despite the large, diner-like menu, there's very little in the way of Greek fare. The name of the place isn't even certain what it is - Grill? Diner? I'd like to like this place, but there are enough other diners of reasonably good quality with much better atmosphere and the classic diner trappings. This restaurant needs a makeover, both physically and conceptually, and then it can earn another star without even touching the food. read more

We were very pleasantly surprised today when brunching at Lenape. The ownership must have changed in the last 4 months or so. We were regulars but stopped going as food and service deteriorated. We had heard that ownership changed and decided to give it a try we are glad we did. The Menu has changed and very good . The vegetables and garnishes were all fresh and served rapidly on warm plates. prices are good and the Service friendly and good . Excellent coffee. Came here for lunch the past wknd. I knew I wanted something sweet, but there was an entire page of waffles, French toast, and pancakes, so I asked our waitress for her recommendation. She asked if I like red velvet cake and of course I do! Apparently, they have a red velvet waffle for Valentine's day that's not on the menu. Oh! And it comes with whipped cream and ice cream! Ahhhh! How can I not order that?! The presentation was so pretty! The waffles were red, topped with whipped cream and red sprinkles, vanilla and strawberry ice cream on the side! Yum! It was def sweet enough, so i didn't not add any syrup. I also had a cappuccino, which was nicely presented too! It came with cinnamon and a sugar stick! For a diner, this one gets four stars. The service has always been prompt and helpful and it does not suffer when the place is crowded. Someone in the kitchen is good at making eggs - great egg sandwiches, my favorite is the Western. Good pancakes although a little stingy on the butter. Fresh squeezed OJ is not cheap, but they have it and it's good, especially compared to the usual diner juice. Great split pea soup with croutons and parmesan cheese. Place was clean and not too packed. Servers were awesome but the food itself was lack luster. The tuna salad sandwich was dry, and my Cuban panini was ok. The coleslaw seemed old, and honestly we didn't finish half our meals. We also got soup and salad, but for two sandwiches and that it came out to almost $35. Considering that the food wasn't that good we felt ripped off. There are better diners in the area considering Jersey has so many. read more

It's not that it's particularly bad. It's just lacking charm and creativity. It's fine if you're hungry and just need a place to eat, but don't expect anything amazing. I came here the first time for breakfast and got eggs, toast, bacon, and fries. It was okay, nothing special. Then last week I came for dinner and got a BLT. I think it had about 2 slices of bacon on it and only came with some mushy coleslaw, no fries. It was only $5, but I left still kinda hungry. The service was a little iffy both times too. It's fine for a quick bite to eat, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. read more

I was there a couple of nights ago picking up food to go after work. First they had different versions of the same thing and it was very confusing on ordering what I wanted. One of the items on the order was a gyro that was supposed to come with fries. When I got home the gyro was open in a tin container with literally 3 little bite sized pieces of gyro meat and a little scoop of tzatziki sauce and the fries were no where to be found. When I looked at the receipt the gyro was a little over $13. The gyro at any other establishment is usually busting at the seams and it is a few dollars cheaper. When I took a closer look at the receipt, there was a $0.25 charge for take out! At least their cannoli was good but I won't be visiting this place again unfortunately. read more

Friendly servers and owners always looking out to make sure all is good. Early bird special from 3:00-6:00 is $10.50 and the best bet financially with soup/salad, entree, dessert and drink.
