By far, one of the best, and I mean the best sushi restaurants I've ever been too. The food was truly exceptionally excellent with flavors that will take your breath away. I highly recommend getting their signature cocktails then transitioning to appetizers and main courses. Their sashimi is so fresh, the fish just melts in your mouth, delivering exquisite quality at its finest degree. Service was so excellent. Please get everything. My wife and i work in the service industry, so we are celebrating Valentine's Day this Sunday. We are excited because we love food and we frequent Ventura blvd quite often. We live in studio city and we saw Leona's and decided to go here for dinner. Food is great, but unfortunately our night wasn't what we were planning at all. Our server came to our table to take our order and that's it for the night. We were ignored the whole night, our server never came back to our table at all until we asked for the check. The runners were great, they checked on us more than the server the whole night. We tried to get our servers attention because my wife's cocktail was a little off and we just wanted a little bit more of lychee juice. So our runner had to ask another server for help. January 2023 - Party of 6, Friday night around 10pm. Plenty of tables available. First time here , last time as well. Food/Pricing - Drinks were not good. Service/Ambiance - When we walked in, the hostess made a very rude comment about how they 'just let anybody walk into the place'. Uncalled for and unnecessary. The gentleman walking us in said, 'they're with me' at her rude comment. Minutes later, the rude greeter proceeded to toss, yes TOSS the menus onto our table. Honestly, I've never experienced such pretentious and rude behavior before at any establishment. The drinks were expensive ($18) and not good at all. We wasted over $100 on poor attitude, rude service right when we walked in, and terrible drinks. Our server was fine and the gentleman at the door was very nice. I'm not into sushi like that but the baked salmon sushi roll I had last night was the best I've ever had. I did t even put soy sauce on it, it was so good. I had my food within 15 minutes of me ordering it, it came out fast. I was there for a Birthday event and even thou it was chaotic with so much people the owner Frank made sure I was taken care of being very helpful. I also like the aesthetic of the place. The place makes you feel like you're outside, very well placed. I will definitely go back there to try others things in the menu. The cocktails are below average water down and not impressive. We ordered Halibut Truffle Sashimi it was outstanding $39. The Bronzino was fantastic $45 the sushi rolls was a waste. It was very basic nothing special. The soft shell crab salad very disappointing. Only four small pieces on a green mix like it was bought in a supermarket. The service was good. Came here last night with my girl friends and this is literally our new go to spot. From the second we walked in, the hostess was very accommodating in getting us seated where we wanted. Very sweet service from all staff & the owner. We got seated and ordered drinks- all the drinks were strong and even one drink had us feeling good all night! We had a 5 month baby with us and the valet guy came inside as they were closing, we paid and tipped him and they gave us the key. Normally the valet brings the car outside, in this case they locked our inside the parking garage. We are about to leave and realized we have no car with an crying baby we had to figure out how to go home. We got Uber spending over $100 to go home. The next day I had to spend another $100 to go back to the restaurant to get my car that they f***** up. My friend complained to the manager and they didn't even apologize for their stupidity and mess up. I would never come back here or recommend it to anyone. We asked for it 3 times, it never came out but it was on the bill. We had to ask for water many times, as well and it was very hard to catch a server or someone working there to help us or order. Either this place is under staffed or I don't know? We also mentioned in our reservation that there were 2 birthdays in our party and nothing was done, surprisingly as they ask if you're coming for a special occasion. It's possible Ms. Leona is experiencing an identity crisis. When I read that one of the Eater's hottest new restaurants was in MY humble neighborhood of Studio City, I couldn't throw my toddler at my husband and get my booty to a seat soon enough. One can get decision fatigue from having to choose between one of the 3 very different dining areas (identity crisis warning 1) - but the sushi bar seemed like a safe bet. Which it was at 5:30pm. I started with a Suntory cocktail (always reliable) and an oyster with caviar to feel like a real fancy lady. I then added the Ocean Treasure dish and started sweating as I began to total my bill only 3 oz of edible food in. The Ocean Treasure was lovely (crab, uni, roe...what's not to like?) but jury is still out if a few bites is worth the $19. If it were part of a tasting menu, I would not be so picky, but again...identity crisis: what kind of restaurant is this? Sushi bar? Sunset strip small bites lounge? High end tasting menu place? The seared salmon roll was recommended to me by a friend, but it was just ok compared to the nigiri. Nigiri was absolutely the star. Not cheap, but compared to the rest of the menu, deserving of the price. Where I reallllyy started to furrow my brow was the damn Udon Carbonara. This kind of dish is meant to perk up your ears and make you think "Wow. Chef is truly elevating. We're mixing cuisines and innovating modern dining. Michelin star here we come." The result was pretty dismal. The fluffy Udon noodle, best nestled in a warm broth was searing with heat when mixed in with a heavy carbonara sauce and not in a fun way. The noodle and the sauce felt like they were fighting each other at two different temperatures. My tongue still has the burn scars. After some good sushi, I started to get quite worked up, thinking that the idea of this Udon Carbonara was merely an idea with no execution. (Also, for everyone boiling on this page over the Michelin star, I believe Leona's was added to the guidebook, but not necessarily given a star. Perhaps it is in some sort of semifinals? I'm not a sportscaster.) It's a truly confusing (and pricey) mixed bag. Because it's so close to me, I'm sure I will be back for another Jekyll and Hyde experience. read more

Good Ambiance, great food, staff needs more training! Overall, a place that we will be coming back to and has the potential to be our regular Sushi place. The food was the best part of the experience and that is what matters the most!! Fresh Sushi and very tasty combinations. The plates were on the small side but the great taste made up for it. Most of the food and menu items taste like the famous Mutsuhisa. My compliments to the chef or chefs. This restaurant is amazing! It definitely deserves 5 stars. The minute you walk in you are greeted with a friendly smile. The patio is beautiful and is very dog friendly. We have been to Leona's twice, once for dinner and yesterday, Sunday brunch. All the food was phenomenal. We loved the spicy tuna roll, the burrata beet salad, the crab croquettes, we just kept ordering. We even ordered our four legged child some chicken breast, which she raved over. The cocktails are exceptional, especially the Violette Rose. Our server Nick was phenomenal and nice on the eyes. Frank one of the owners was also very welcoming. This place is one of those places that social media gets you with and then you you go you wish you had gone elsewhere. We arrived on a Friday with a reservation and we're seated right away. Hostess was lovely and nice! But holy moly the vibe was not it.. the room was dark and loud with a giant tv showing lakers and different groups singing and talking super loud. It felt more a like sports bar than a high end sushi restaurant. The server came finally and we ordered drinks, and all of his recommendations from their menu from the truffle halibut to the scallops and Octopus. Once the food started to come out we could barely see it ... but what struck me was they all had the same side dressing ... radish and arugula with ponzu sauce. Like 7 dishes and all basically the same except for the fish choice. The spicy tuna roll tasted like Ralph's rolls so overall it was a big fat $220 disappointing meal ... money that could have gone someplace that had a little more creative plating and flavors for that price. Love this new business around the corner. 5 stars because it's new and I want it to stay open. Way better than taisho. The vibes are immaculate, 11/10. I love the decor and greenery. The sushi is hit or miss, overall 7/10. The croquette is probably the best thing 8/10, the oxtail bao was ok and mine had a bone in it. The eggplant was not good. I am glad that Jim G. and I read reviews online before going so we knew what to expect and were able to temper our expectations (in opposition to some of the glowing reviews from Eater LA). Even with all that in mind, I can't go much higher than just "ok." Super rainy night and the gentleman at the valet ($10) couldn't have been nicer, especially considering how soaked he was going to be all evening. As we walk in, the hostess was also very kind; when she offered to take my umbrella, I politely declined, after having read the review where people had their umbrellas taken by other patrons. The tables for two are quite small, so I do wish there was a trustworthy umbrella check and coat check. Whoever designed the eating areas didn't really think about the customer experience. In the Living Room, the backs of the chairs will not hold on to a purse or coat. I was quite disappointed when my leather jacket fell off the chair and into some red wine that someone had spilled and no one had cleaned up. The arms of the chair are at the same height as the table, so you can't actually tuck in close enough to the table (for my preference, anyway). In the Patio Room (which was nice and warm, as many have said), one person at each table has to sit on a backless tuft. It's a beautiful tuft, to be sure, but that wouldn't be a comfortable dinner. The aesthetic of the restaurant is great (keeping some of the decor from Ceremony), although some items feel 'stuck' in a corner without much thought to the design. There's a stunning piece of repurposed art (don't know how else to describe it) that looks like part geisha, part warrior, but she was stuck in a corner next to a piano that was covered in towels (maybe a leak with the rain??). None of these things would be deal-breakers, but design has to serve function, not just aesthetic. Jerred was plenty friendly as our server and patient with my many questions. He was very eager to take our order early, while we were both indecisive and wanted to slow the pace (again, heeding others' reviews about having every item ordered on the small table at once, without any real pacing). The $18 cocktails were fine (Smokey Yuzu and Leona's Old Fashioned), but for that price, they should be more special. Started with the Oxtail Bao. They were fine/good, but I felt that they needed a little something extra in texture or flavor. We went with a sushi 'course' next, choosing the following nigiri pieces: Shima Aji, Saba (not on the menu), Albacore Belly, Yellowtail Belly, Scallop, Kinmedai, and Toro. The food runner was not well-versed on the fish; when he tried telling us what they were, he was reading the ticket from the sushi bar, but was reading them in the wrong order, as some of them (but not all) were obvious. All the fish was fine/good; what I think was the Yellowtail belly was really good. Truth be told, my local sushi place (Shout Out to Sushi Spot!) has done all of these better for cheaper. With the exception of the toro, however, I think Leona's priced these more reasonably than I anticipated, so that's a plus. The House Sake was a good choice, as we're not sake experts, but definitely want a cold junmai or junmai gingo sake with sushi. It was reasonably priced at $26 for a large and paired with the sushi nicely. Jim G. was thinking about ordering either the filet or the pork chop (or even both), but we weren't really feeling it. In his own words, he said, "Let's cut our losses. Want tacos?" I did. We ordered one more thing before leaving, though. I had asked Jerred about the Ocean Treasure; his explanation wasn't entirely accurate to what we got, but ok. In one plate you have blue crab on the bottom, then a scallop, topped with uni, and sprinkled with ikura. Sounded pretty heavenly. It was not a treasure. I think it was the blue crab that turned this dish south, but it didn't have the freshness and salinity I was hoping for. We ended up not eating a whole lot of food and, pre-tip, spent just under $200. And, as others have mentioned, the suggested tips on the bill are 20, 25, and 30%. Of course people can tip whatever they want, but it feels like the height of hubris to suggest 30%. We saw one of the owners, Frank, at the bar in the Living Room on his laptop and, from time to time, greeting friends. I hope he's also tuning in to some of the inconsistencies with the timing of the service, knowledge about the food (we experienced this with a food runner and a bartender who was stepping in for Jerred), and the fact that the vision for the restaurant is not being successfully conveyed (if you follow their IG, they make it seem like a hip club where there's amazing food and cocktails). We didn't have the dreadful experience that others had (thankfully), but at this price point, I need more and know I can get it at other places. Jim G will post his review with pictures, too. I came here on a Sunday morning. There was a small group playing Latin jazzy music in the patio area where we sat. It was really vibey. We shared the croquettes which were really good and I ordered a roll while my company ordered the salmon. Both were good. The martini was also good. Our server was pleasant. One of my favorite restaurants in studio city. The ambiance is amazing they have a patio area which looks like an outdoor area and a living room area which is nicely decorated. Everything we ordered was good. We had oysters, pasta, sushi just a little bit of everything. Our server was attentive to our needs and always checking on us. After we were done we ran into the owner and he walked us around and showed us a tour of the whole restaurant including the sushi bar in another room we didn't even know was there. Went to Leona's with a group of 10 women and we had an amazing dining experience. The food was absolutely delicious. The fish was so fresh and great quality. The flavors were unique, and different from typical sushi restaurants without sacrificing flavor. The portions were generous and filling, and pleasing to the eyes as well as appetites. The service was great also with plenty of servers available to accommodate our large group. They never skipped a beat. The food came out at a nice pace and we never felt overwhelmed nor did we wait for the next course to arrive. And they were pleasant and eager to help and/or accommodate.
