I'm all in on this coney/koney(?) island. Prices are excellent and the food is reliably good. I've been ordering off of DoorDash and it's ready quickly, packaged well, and tasty. Their breakfast is my favorite but it's definitely worth trying the soup and mains too. The menu, like most coneys, is huge - I haven't tried any of their Mexican items nor do I particularly want to - but I like the kielbasa and fish that they have on the menu. Overall I think the breakfast is the way to go though. It's cheap, tasty, and the portions are massive. The #8 is my favorite (eggs, sausage, hash browns, pancakes, and French toast) when I'm starving. There are many good Coney Islands and diners in metro Detroit that serve a good breakfast. Sinbad's is not one of the good ones. I didn't finish my breakfast. I love diners. Or coneys, as it is called here. We have own breakfast club. We all have our tables. But, it is more than that. The food is primarily what I call comfort food and it is all served open to close. Do you want oatmeal at 5:00 PM? You got it. Me? My favorite breakfast is a chicken finger, fries and a soda. The only thing that is NOT available at 7 AM? Broasted chicken. You'll have to wait until 11 AM. The staff is, for the most part, great. The waitress on the weekend and two days during the week is ... awesome. Great work ethic and she knows her job. She's efficient, has a kindness about her and does not get ruffled. Sounds like a five star review, I know. In every situation, there is some not so good things. Sad, but true. I would say 7 out of 8 times, the broasted chicken is good. Occasionally, though, it can be a little underwhelming. There's an art to broasting chicken. The other strike? One or two of the girls that work afternoon or mornings are unmotivated and do not have their priorities in the right place (I have worked fast food & full service on and off for years). My favotites include: Beef Barley Soup (most days) Chicken Noodle Soup (all days) Clam Chowder [white] (Fridays) Ask for the steak, two eggs, hashbrowns, and toast special. ($5.99). I can't help myself- I love cheesy diners. Sinbad is one of those places it's nice to stagger into late Sunday morning after you've been up late drinking on Saturday. My favorite items on the menu are their breakfast skillets and the tuna melt. The breakfast skillets are comprised of potatoes, veggies, cheese, and two eggs any style. They come with a variety of meats or vegetarian style, and the little American fries that come in the skillets are really tasty. The tuna melts aren't too different than what you'd expect from any diner, but they are crispy and good. I've also tried and enjoyed the pita wraps here. Skip the salads, though. The iceberg lettuce strewn with a few pink tomatoes and bits of cheese are nothing special. The funniest thing about this place is the artwork. The restaurant is named after Sinbad the sailor, but the art painted on the walls is obviously of Aladdin on his magic carpet. For some reason, I find that peculiar and hilarious. read more

Yes, that is a solid 3 stars- as mediocre as it gets. Come for the soup, though. It is actually pretty darned good. We tried their stuffed pepper soup and chicken noodle soup and the other soups looked good (though we'd only purchased a single bowl). So...I think you could probably do a little salad or something but make the soup your main dish. I wish the nachos were fried in-house (come on, you can get the pre-cut tortilla triangles at Restaurant Depot, you guys) instead of cheap looking and tasting round stadium chips. I wish the cheese on the nachos was *only* shredded cheddar and with NO stadium cheez sauce. I was honestly very surprised to see cheez sauce in an actual restaurant. I don't think I have ever experienced that in a restaurant setting before. So disappointing. That stuff destroys chips and makes them soggy and inedible and the owners should know that. I wish the nachos had more vegetables on it. The coney chili is a winner on the side, though. So less sogginess. The hamburger at first appeared hand-patted and fresh but upon closer inspection, it was more like a pre-frozen patty. Real cheddar cheese (shredded) was nice (we asked for it, instead of American), tomatoes were plum tomatoes, which is nice in January (now)- the only kind of tomatoes you can get that actually taste like tomatoes this time of year! Flavor on the burger was okay, acceptable. Sesame bun is a plus when you already are thinking it is a cut-corner place. Chips on the side were nice- did not expect anything else, as we'd not asked for fries. But the soup- yes. Come to Sinbad's for the soup. They have 6 soups ready all day. Homemade with obvious love and care, no obvious cut-corner cheapiness, not the same expected soups you'd see everywhere. read more

I have so many fond memories of this place from the 4 years I lived in Ypsilanti. It was a ritual of my ex and I to go here every Sunday morning. We would always get the chicken fried steak breakfast, which was awesome. First of all, the chicken fried steak was as big as your HEAD. Hashbrowns, eggs, toast. Cheap too. It got to the point that when we would walk in, the waitress knew us, and would put us in our favorite booth. The decor is cheesy and awesome! Miss this place so much! read more

The only reason I'm putting two stars is so that you know it's edible. This place was recommended, but I think maybe my friend was talking about a different place. The food was mediocre at best and I can forgive a lot if it tastes good, but the coney dog was impossible to eat, the fries were dumped on the table apathetically, and my dining partner's gyro was just pita and meat. Sinbad's is a favorite of a friend of mine and we go here from time to time because he loves it. I think the food leaves a bit to be desired and I think he likes it so much because he went here so much with his dad and it holds some nostalgia for him. The home made soups are easily the best that they have to offer and they are very good. The rest of the food is pretty ho-hum. The fish and chips are ok. the coney dogs are alright but I've had better. The atmosphere is kind of worn and faded but the servers are nice. All in all, I've had better. read more

The first problem is the tacky, dated decor and the filthy stained carpet. Gut the place and redecorate. On the up side, it's a nice quiet atmosphere which I appreciate. Food was just okay. Coffee is decent but the waitress didn't come around to do refills often enough and the coffee cups (which also are long overdue for replacement) are small. I'm sure this is a family-owned place and so I'd like to be able to support them. But they need to make an investment. And teach the cook how to do hash browns properly. read more

I can see why this is an unclaimed business on Yelp. professionalism is not even attempted. Seat yourself and wait and hope they see you is not the best way to drive customers into seats. I ordered two of their Coney's and between them there couldn't have been a tablespoon of chili. The few onions offered were roughly chopped and tasted old. It's a Koney. The service there is awful. On three separate occasions, we had trouble getting water refilled, our server seemed to disappear. I mentioned it to the checkout person on 2 occasions, got a "Sorry.", with no vocal inflection, and that was it. The food is Koney food off a SysCo truck, which means cheap lunch when I'm in a hurry - and I pass this place at least twice a day. I'll find someplace else. read more

We go here every weekend for breakfast. The service is friendly and fast, the food is good. Orders are always exactly as requested, omelets are good. Have had Friday night fish here a few times and other stuff - burgers, gyros, etc. It's standard Coney food done well. It's not noisy or overcrowded, refills are fast and frequenton drinks. Decided to have dinner here on Monday April 10th. Was not busy at all. The waitress took our order but didn't write it down. I ordered the super burrito with no onions and my partner ordered a hamburger with just lettuce and pickles. I heard the waitress tell the cook that the hamburger was lettuce and onions only so I spoke up and corrected her. The food came out and it looked delicious. I started cutting my burrito and found a piece of plastic wrap in it. I sent it back because I didn't know how much more plastic was in it. The cook and the waitress had the nerve to ask if I wanted a new one made. Like I really enjoy eating plastic with my food. Doubt we will ever go back again. read more

Sinbads is an great place! It has great food, very cheap prices and an awesome wait staff! I would reccomend it to anyone. I have been to Sinbads over 30 times and have never had a bad experience. The best thing about it besides the price is that your order is ready in no time at all. They have a variety of food, too. It ranges from appetizers to italian, to mexican, and so much more! They also have several types of fish avaliable on Fridays, and a special for every day of the week. Oh, and don't get me started on the ice cream shakes! Sinbads is an overal A++! I don't know what the other two people were thinking and who cares what they have painted on the walls!
