I read the reviews after landing for a place to eat and thought they would be overrated. First of all the staff are some of the friendliest people I've met since visiting Philly. As for the food, OMG. So good and plentiful. I thought the prices were a little high but the amount you are given and quality of product is great. Will definitely visit again if I return. read more

I went there last week and got 3 cheesesteaks and 1 hoagie. The cheesesteaks were differently one of the Best in the city and way better than Dalessandro's, who is ranked above them. Ordered the pizza cheesesteak. Was reminiscent of eating a poorly formed meatball. Food was almost premasticated (it was chopped into very small bits) so I imagine this could be very denture-friendly. I've been searching for the ultimate cheesesteak every time I come to Philly, and I've tried several of the more famous spots, but I think this place has come out on top. Friendly people behind the counter, quick efficient service, and most importantly a phenomenal cheesesteak! My only complaint, and it's a minor one because everyone seems to serve them this way, is that the cheese never seems to be distributed through the sandwich. It's so big that when you take your first bite you might actually worry that there's no cheese, but when you work your way down, it's there and it's awesome. I'll be back! read more

The first cheese steak I had off the plane and it was HUGE!! A great intro to Philly with every possible option you could imagine. The storefront is small and gets packed quickly but is great for take away or outdoor eating. The staff is kinda loud and their communication is entertainment as are the stories of the locals as they come in. I found this place on yelp while visiting Philadelphia from NYC. It's a small "mom and pop" feel place on the corner of a intersection of a residential street and a busy street. The staff is very friendly and helpful providing suggestions for cheesesteaks and additions. All orders are prepared right after ordering. The bread is so fresh and soft and the steak was cooked to perfection. I ordered a total of 3 cheesesteaks / 1 cheesesteak fries / and 1 chicken cheesesteak, and bright them back with me to NY for my family. Everyone was more than satisfied with the sandwich, even after being driven to NY. Any time I'm in Philadelphia again I will be visiting this place again, this place has gained a lifelong customer. read more

In Arizona there is no Cheesesteak worth a hoot since I left Philadelphia 30 years ago. On a trip back to the City, I was more excited about my favorite food, ever, a Philadelphia Cheesestake than any tourist areas. After three tries at highly recommended spots, I determined the Cheesesteak of old was no more. They were, for a better word, all trash. We got a hotel for our early flight back and saw Leo's on Yelp, and decided to give it a try with low expectations. Holy Toledo, the sandwich is alive and well. It was huge, tender and delicious. The store front may be iffy, the interior about the same, but the staff was terrific, and the Cheesesteak was the best I've ever had. I'm 80yo, and consumed Cheesesteaks for decades. If you want an authentic, beyond-delicious Cheesesteak, and how they used to make them, forget the other junky spots advertising, this is the place! Thank you, Leo's. Friendly staff, enormous portions of meat and bread. A good cheesesteak but not what I'd consider one of the best. The meat mixed with the cheese so much it was hard to distinguish the two. It was all kind of one note and needed something with more of a flavor kick. Wish I had some crispy bits to chew on also. The whole sandwich was pretty soft. I ordered a cheese steak ahead. I was told 20 to 25 minutes. I arrived in about 20 minutes and was told my order was not ready yet which was fine. I then saw walk-in customer after walking customer order and get their cheese steaks. So I asked the woman and man behind the counter if they forgot my cheesesteak. They told me no that they were still not done it yet. How do you call ahead and the walk-in customers are taken care of before you? That is horrible organization and customer service. I called at 11:50 and it is now 12:40 and I am leaving without the cheesesteak because I could not wait any longer for them to take care of customers that came after me. read more

Experience: Staying nearby when I was in town for business. I tried to call ahead and the phone was permanently off the hook, but I decided I would drive over and check it out. The place was busy and everyone was friendly. I ordered at the counter and then waited and waited and waited. The line is longer than you realize for people who know, it's gonna be a while and leave/come back. Anyway, the staff stays busy and eventually my order (mushroom and steak + fries) comes up. I've been there so long I talked myself into a mini-pie as well. I pay and leave to eat back at the hotel. Food: sandwich was good, the portion was huge but I didn't observe that it was anything out the ordinary. Also, skip the fries. Even the ones I ate in the car were just warm, crinkle cut fries. My wife and I have made Leo's a stop on our summer trips from NYC to Maryland for many years now. They make a way, WAY better steak and cheese than those tourist traps in Philly. The large sub is SHOCKINGLY large (like, literally as long as my arm and packed with 3/4 lb of steak I'd guess) and an excellent value. Everyone there is super friendly. Leo's is a-ok. Pros include friendly service, a fair amount of ordering options and huge portions. I ordered a Cheesesteak with provolone, sweet peppers and fried onions. While the sandwich was huge, there just wasn't much flavor. I ended up adding mustard, salt and pepper to doctor it up a bit. Leo's is slightly better than the tourist traps known as Geno's & Pat's, but can't compete with John's Roast Pork or the other local favs. Looks like Leo's won quite a few awards a decade ago. Unfortunately, I can't recommend unless you happen to be starving and in the immediate vacinity. read more

ATMOSPHERE: Kind of like a hole in the wall without being a hole in the wall, LOL. You walk in and 80% of the restaurant is the kitchen. The remaining 20% is the area to order your food and has some beverage coolers as well as some chip racks. There is seating outdoors, so that's nice! SERVICE: The gentleman who took our order was super nice. Took our order quickly and thanked us for leaving a tip. That was basically all the service we got, so no complaints there. FOOD: Being from Hawaii, I am sure I do not know what a real Philly Cheese Steak is supposed to be like... but for me, I am not a fan of steak chopped to look like hamburger, which is how our cheesesteak was. I would have preferred the slices like I am used to. I think the texture really threw me for a loop. It was tasty, just not quite what I was hyped to get, so it didn't impress me.
