Upon arriving, I had high expectations just based off the reviews alone. When we walked in there were a few people waiting. We weren't greeted or anything and kinda just stood there waiting to be helped. We ordered a small cheesesteak with wiz and American. When we got it, you could tell it was gonna be packed with meat just because how heavy it was. Well, it was packed but the meat was horrible. The sandwich itself was so SOGGY that it felt like an Italian beef that was dipped. The steak to me tasted like ground beef that was in a pot of broth or water and then scooped and placed on the bread. It didn't taste like it was cooked on a flat top, maybe heated but not cooked. It seriously felt like someone scooped flavorless chili into a hoagie roll. That alone caused the sandwich to be so wet, it was honestly disgusting. The meat itself was very flavorless and needed salt badly. The cheese, was not even noticeable. We couldn't taste it at all, matter of fact we could barely even see it on the sandwich. I would give this a 1 1/2 if I could, but two stars because it is a lot of meat. It's just not good meat. If you're looking for a soaking wet, bland, cheese less cheesesteak, then this is the place for you. read more

This has always been my go to steak shop when I come to town. I stay away from the overhyped downtown now commercial spots; you know who they are. Food is so well cooked and delicious flavor. Other places have the roll soaked and falls apart. This sandwich still holds slightly moist. Meat is tender still and cheese melts well. Ordered a large mushroom cheese steak with hot peppers, green peppers, and onions. I split this delicious meat filled monster of cheesy goodness with my 15 year old son. (He of course split the sub for us, 60/40. He took the 60. Bread was fresh and soft. The meat and fillings were delicious. The food used to be good but I think the business changed hands and went downhill from there. Another customer and I spoke about how it had changed since we were last there. He wasn't happy either. Just got into Philly, and did the normal yelp for hidden treasure. Leo's was no disappointment. I ordered a mushroom cheesesteak with all the fixins. Pretty sure I hacked the order and showed my out-of-town-ness, because as the worker handed me my overweight bag he said.."You're really going to enjoy this" It was a steak bomb. Full of flavor and packed with my custom order. Perfect balance of ingredients, and a monstrous amount of meat. To note: And this is realllllly important: The service was off the charts. I was lurking in the background in the standing room only area and watching the machine work. There was a patron who returned a full order of a couple of cheesesteaks that got messed up. The machine halted and they rapid fire delivered the order, all the while apologizing and chatting with the guest in what could have been a frustrating and non returning client. Bravo Leos. Not the same since new crew took over. Food is good but there is definitely a difference, not great anymore. Pizza steak was my go to for 25 years, it has definitely changed. Ordered ahead on a Sunday and was told 30 mins. Showed up 50 mins later because traffic was brutal and my order was still not ready. No problem because they seemed busy. Waited for another hour, maybe an hour 15 with a bunch of really pissed off customers. Poor girl at the register getting chewed out by upset customers when it was obvious it was the managers fault. He didn't come out to acknowledge anyone until someone asked for him. And then what does he do? Starts playing with the plastic bags becauae they kept ripping when he should of jumped on the grill to start expediting the 50 tickets posted across the line. It's a shop with no inside seating. But there are picnic tables outside now. Food is so good that people drive up from Maryland for a steak. There's definitely a reason why Leo's was voted best Philly cheese-steak for 2016. The portions and food are absolutely worth every dollar. My sister and I ordered the Philly cheese steak with mushrooms and onions. The large can definitely feed up to 4 people so don't be mistaken. The old man ordering for us showed us the Large sizing and that was helpful for us to decided what size to get. There is outdoor seating, but Leo's is more of a go to place than a dine in restaurant. Parking is easily accessible right down the street because it's mostly residential. Other refreshments are not included and are purchased separately. Front area is very small and cannot even comfortably fit three people waiting on their orders. Was in Philly for a couple of days to see Rammstein play and was trying to decide on where to get a cheesesteak and I kept hearing about Leo's Steak Shop. A few friends were with me and we went in to order and the vibe inside was amazing! The amount of cheese and meat was incredible and complimented each other perfectly!
