The diner itself is tiny but the breakfast is not by any means. It's part of their charm. Letterman's Diner is a little gem in the heart of Kutztown. The staff is always friendly and make sure the customers are treated great, especially the regulars. Doug does all of the cooking right in front of you so you can see where your food is coming from, there's no questioning about what's on your plate. The menu items are something you can only get there. He has revolutionized breakfast. I've never thought these omelets a were possible. If you're looking for the best diner breakfast you've ever had, look no further. If you've heard from someone about this place and they've told you "You have to go!" listen to that person more often because they have common sense and good taste. I'm not sure how else to put it. The spot is definitely small, but that gives it its charm. It also has the unfortunate side effect of causing lines outside, but I don't consider it a bad thing. You have to know that it's worth it if people are willing to line up outside in near freezing temperatures just to get a seat to indulge in a massive amount of delicious breakfast creations. I'm a big guy and can honestly say I've never, EVER walked away hungry and sometimes, though it's hard to admit, I've had leftovers! First off this place is the ultimate of dives. It is tiny and cramped with the constant flow of patrons who I cannot understand why on earth they are eating here. The kitchen is right in front of you and the cook is a slob who is totally unkempt. He touches everything - countertop, his forehead, refrigerator handle, raw bacon, veggies, all meats with his bare contaminated hands. He verbally abuses his staff and he looks he would rather be in a bar fight. Plus the fact that my tomato egg and cheese sandwich had zero seasoning, melted processed cheese and was atrocious. Just discovered it, and have been there twice already amd probably going again tomorrow. Favorites so far...the bacon was perfect, the potato cakes (homemade shredded potato with chives, formed into small rounds and friend in oil, FABULOUS!) and my husband said the SOS was so good, that his favorite SOS in the world now shares the spotlight with Lettermans. The servers work their tail off, they are attentive and great. Two pointers I will share...one is that yesterday I got my food after my husband was about 2/3 of the way done his food. That was different for us. The main thing I would say to that is that nobody said a word to me when his was put down without mine. Even when the waitress stopped by for something , while he was eating and I wasn't, no words about my food. I think it is best to say something, tell me something...ignoring the elephant in the room, the fact that I have no food and my husband is eating would have worked better for me. The other thing is, both visits we were having fly issues. I think that whatever you are doing for that needs a boost. Other than that, keep up the amazing food !! My son and I stopped in for a quick breakfast before I dropped him off at nearby Kutztown University for a summer camp. I had eggs over easy and toast he had a short stack of chocolate chip waffles. My eggs were good and his shower stack was huge and delicious. Service was great many people seated at counter and had a nice hometown feel that reflected the surrounding town. I'm born and raised in New York, NY and I've spent time in Worcester (WooStah), MA, Philadelphia, PA and now I live in the Washington, DC area. I mention this because I've definitely eaten in many dives in my lifetime. With this life experience, I can say that I have eaten some great meals at places that have a horrible appearance but the food is absolutely incredible... Letterman's is NOT one of those places! One step into this local establishment makes you wonder: "why is it so crowded"? As you look around the location, you can't help but notice how cramped it is. There are approximately five small two-person tables and approximately ten seats at the counter. As you take your seat, you might be impressed with the number of people waiting patiently at the door for a table and you'll also see lots of people running in and out with takeout orders... This place is busy! If you're seated at the counter, as we were, you'll have a great view of the grill (watch carefully as the grill man wipes his sweaty face with his bare hands and then handles the raw food he's preparing for your meal; or watch as he touches all of the filthy surfaces around the grill area as he handles your food) and that's when the little voice in your head says: "I think we should get out of here"! Don't ignore that little voice! It's your gut telling you that something aint right! Plain and simple, this place is filthy and the food is horrible. I'd be remiss if I didn't do my best to warn folks to stay avoid this place by any means necessary. Honestly, I don't know how in the world there are ratings of more than one star in the reviews posted for this place... Something just aint right! To add insult to injury, not only was the place filthy; the grill area unsanitary; and the food absolutely awful; we also had the unfortunate experience of watching the grill man yelling at one of the waitresses in front of all of the customers. I don't know what he said to her or what the problem was but she was visibly upset after he yelled at her and she was fighting back the tears as she continued to serve customers. There are some great dives out there, unfortunately Letterman's can only aspire to achieve that honorable mention. Came in for lunch and got the miners special. For one thing it took well over a half an hour to get our food, and when we did it was incredibly greasy and my eggs had a bunch of shells in it. Plus under the specials page it says that they come with potatoes and toast and I found out thats not the case. Oh yeah and the cook was obviously drinking, we saw someone poor it for him and add orange juice right in front of us. Overall not a pleasant experience. This is probably the best breakfast spot in the Eastern Part of the USA as I been throughout the country in my military days and this place rocks! Kutztown University students are lucky to have a cool little dinner like this in the downtown area of the Town. The portion size is huge and the omelets especially are out of this world. We travel an hour when we are camping just to eat here AND actually try and pick places close JUST to eat here. The portions that you receive are absolutely massive and the menu is so diverse you could continually try new items on the menu. My favorite were the omelette specials. That being said it wasn't an expensive place to eat and the atmosphere of the diner completes the experience. Excellent breakfast stop in Kutztown! When you walk into Letterman's you walk back in time and that is definitely ok by me! My suggestions/tips: * When you walk in, there are about 4 or 5 2 person tables along the left side and about 10-12 bar stools at the food counter. So understand that it is small, and you can't come here and sit with a family of 4 at a table (or possibly a group of 4 to sit together at the counter) * Get there early so you don't have to wait outside; there is no waiting area inside * On a slow day it might be a place to come with little kids, but I doubt there is a slow day here. So I would not come here looking for little kid table service or little kids trying to juggle/balance themselves on a counter bar stool (with you trying to eat and watch a little kid at the same time) * Expect a fast paced (not that they rush you, which they don't) dining experience. Since most of the seating is at the counter, you see/hear all the sites and sounds of the Letterman's staff making all of us some great food. If you are looking for a sit down breakfast where the only staff you see is the waitress coming to your table once in awhile to ask you if you want a coffee refill: this isn't Letterman's With all that being said, and you now understand what you are walking into, the food is fresh, hot made to order, then served to you immediately after it is plated. If there is anything I hate is a lukewarm or cold hot breakfast: that will not happen at Letterman's. You see it being made/it comes off the excellent cook's spatula to a waiting plate/it is brought to you. Love it! 3 egg omelettes are made so you don't need lunch anytime soon: filled with your choice of meats/cheeses/vegetables along with a huge portion of fresh made off the grill home fries (the grated kind, not sliced potatoes type). They have a lot of omelette choices, along with all the other choices of breakfast fare. Bacon is home made by the owner so get a side of 4 slices of thicker sliced bacon with your order. But why 4 stars and not 5? Someone in my group ordered an omelette that requested no tomatoes had them served with the tomatoes. Have to take off a star when you ask for a deletion that was clearly written by the waitress on the order to the chef and was neglected. She took them all out bit by bit, and did like the omelette outside of the tomato error, but it did leave her a bit negative about the error. Outside of the 1 order that was an error, we all will still return. It is a great classic diner with big portions and great value for your breakfast $$. read more

An old standby for a great breakfast, non-chain style. Made it here today after some farmers/flea marketing at Reddingers. I usually have breakfast, but today, in spite of their long list of awesome omelette selections - I opted for a burger. Honestly, that burger kicked ass! Exactly as ordered. Hot, perfectly cooked, flavorful. Very attentive staff. I think the trick was the grilled bun, maybe with some butter: crack-like.
