Originally, Levain Bakery was a New York establishment but I'm so glad they expanded over to the west coast and out of all places, they decided to open a location in Venice, California! You can't miss it. Its location is right on the corner of Abbot Kinney on Venice Boulevard. If you've been in the area for a few years, it's the old Lemonade spot. The blue awning and the vintage bike in front of the shop gives the location a New York feel--except there are palm trees all around you. The cookies are incredible! They are huge and baked fresh to order. My favorite is The Walnut Chocolate Chip and the Dark Chocolate Chip. They are so good, I stopped making cookies at home and resorting to Levain's Bakery for my cookie fix. The service is great! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful with taking orders and describing what each of the pastries and cookies tastes like. I appreciate their customer service skills because it reminds me of the customer service skills of the past. Very friendly and genuine. None of this new era careless hospitality. I am not even a big fan of raisins, so I will actually pick them out but that is how good the cookie itself is. I used to regularly go to the Larchmont location, but I wanted to check out the new Venice location since they offered both the Black & White Chocolate Chip Cookie and Lemon Cookie. I fell in love with the Lemon Cookie (5 stars) when it was introduced last year. It was a nice break from the chocolate dominant menu. The brightness perfectly captured sweet and tart flavors that you expect from a delicious lemon dessert. The Black & White Chocolate Chip (5 stars) is my new favorite, and it's even better than my first Levain cookie love, the Dark Chocolate Chip. The cookie dough included extra dark cocoa, which gave it a richer and deeper chocolate flavor. I loved the white chocolate chunks that added a creamy sweetness, and it enhanced the flavors of this perfect cookie. I thought this flavor was only available in their New York locations and online, and it was nice to see it here. I also came here to buy a gift. The small tin is an additional cost and also required purchasing eight cookies. I chose other flavors that I've previously tried and loved like the Chocolate Chip Walnut, Caramel Coconut Chocolate Chip, Dark Chocolate Chip, and Two Chip Chocolate Chip. If you do not want to gift all eight cookies, I recommend only taking two cookies out. Leaving four cookies in the tin made it look incomplete because of the size and depth of the tin. The cookies are pricey, but I think they are worth it. I've learned to savor them by just indulging in a few bites at a time so it'll last me two to three days. Since it's on Abbott Kinney, the area is expected to have a lot of foot traffic, and I fortunately got parking upfront on a Sunday afternoon. It opened earlier this month. There was no long line during my visit, but they were still busy. There were only two people taking orders, but the line moved quickly with its nice employees. The service was 4 stars. The customers included tourists and newbies unsure what $5-$6 cookie to get. My boyfriend and I were enjoying our anniversary roaming around LA and we stayed in Mar Vista for the weekend. I didn't know there was a Levain in Venice. I didn't know Levain found its way to CA. I live under a rock I suppose... But oh how grateful I am that they are here! Now this will not sound shocking because everyone already seems to know and has said it-these cookies are probably hands down one of the best things I've ever taken a bite out of. I'm a snack-a-holic. I didn't eat many sweet treats as a kid and as a result, I'm making up for it as an adult! I've been wanting to try this cookie forever. The cutely designed bakery totally gave you LA, and specifically Venice vibe with some merch carrying the same theme. They did bring couple of the special flavors, the Black and White and the Spring Special - Lemon Cookie. I got both of them doubtlessly. The Black and White was extra dark chocolate dough base with milk, dark, and white chocolate chips. It's like eating fudgy brownie with that crispy cookie edge. Totally for any chocolate lover out there. The lemon one caught my attention and indeed tasted delicate being not overly sweet and had that refreshing lemon hint. Stopped by on a Friday and was greeted by a super helpful employee who recommended the banana bread. I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie and both were great - the store is small but mighty and they are always baking up fresh treats and pastries. The two-chip chocolate chip cookie remains my fave but you really can't go wrong with any flavor, especially when they're still hot from the oven. Obsessed with the new Levain x Venice Run Club collab! Nothing hits better than a post-run cookie. I'm a sucker for their seasonal flavors and will 100% order any limited edition item they ever offer because I have FOMO. This location is just as good as the original location in NY, but with a shorter line and even friendlier service. It is perfectly located on the corner of Abbott Kinney, just a 5 min walk from the VRC meeting spot. Abbot Kinney has changed so much over the years... but Levain has truly embraced and became part of the community. They donate any "old" pastries and have truly won my heart over. Iykyk. I've heard so much about Levain cookies and this did not disappoint! The texture of their cookies are perfect with a slightly crisp outside and a softer, more cakey texture inside. The cookies are big and pretty sweet; a fourth of a cookie was satisfying enough for me and I shared/saved the rest. My mom liked their oat milk matcha latte as well. We parked in the neighborhood behind the Abbot Kinney shopping street on Westminster Blvd. The streets are narrow and crowded but parking is do-able, plus it's free with no time limit. Good service with efficient wait times despite the busy shop! Wish there were more seating inside but alas, this is LA. read more

TLDR: Is the cookie good? Yes. Was the ice cream good? It was eventually good when the frozenness allowed some flavor to punch through. Is it worth the money? I'll leave it up to you to decide. Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip: The cookie passed the taste and texture test. It was soft, chewy, and it was not too sweet. One weakness of large cookies like this is that they start off amazing then the quality drops off 5 minutes after it leaves the reheating oven. No such issues were found in this cookie. I took my time when eating this one and I can confidently say that the quality held up easily for 15 minutes, and the ice cream essentially masked whatever potential dryness it could have had when I eventually finished it 25-30 minutes in. My problem with this is my willingness to purchase the product. The longer I ate, the more time I had to ponder how much a the cookie cost. Personally, I feel that this cookie gave a vibe of someone bringing a tray of cookies in a pot luck and EVERYONE loved it and said how a business can be made out of this. While I don't disagree with the conclusion of this imagined scenario, I just don't feel comfortable spending money on this cookie as often as the business would like. Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (Wanderlust): There are times when an ice cream scoop is too frozen, and this was one of those times. The ala mode was served with a wooden spoon, and I swear I tasted more wood than ice cream during my first 2 bites at it. After 5 or so minutes, I finally understood why this partnership was created. The vanilla was good, it wasn't the best, but it's definitely up there. Pairing the ice cream with the cookie creates a vanilla x chocolate sugar explosion that I will never complain about. Much like the cookie, the ice cream was not too sweet. Unfortunately, we have to revisit the problem at hand, is it worth it? The cookie is just north of $5, and throwing in a scoop of ice cream is another $5. Although this is the correct market price, part of me doubts whether this combination is worth $10. Service: The staff were pleasant and very accommodating. Ambiance: The place was nice. Most of the store was dedicated to baking cookies, and customers didn't have that much space, but I didn't mind since their product is easily handheld. read more

so happy they opened a levain on the Westside now. these cookies originated from NYC and this is their second location in California, the first being Larchmont. this is a newer location in comparison to Larchmont. they're known for their large, thick, tall cookies. the must haves are the chocolate chip walnut, caramel coconut chocolate chip, and the Venice exclusive cookie black & white chocolate chip. the lemon cookie is seasonal, I thought it was okay and not as special as the others. also had a sticky bun here and it was yummy. don't be afraid if the line is long, it goes by fast. parking in Venice is tricky, I parked in a paid lot and walked around Venice in general. saw some reviews comparing the cookies here to Larchmont, personally I did not taste a difference. if you've never tried their cookies, try once in your life. they're thick, gooey, and you might need a glass of milk with it. so worth read more
