However, the biscuits were dry and that's the one thing a southern restaurant has to do well. It's not a large space - the patio seems larger than inside - and the urban garage doesn't have a true southern feel. Libby's Southern Comfort is in a small rather narrow building but we were seated fairly quickly. It is more a place for a few friends but not a large party. I was taking a friend to dinner and we decided to try several different things on the menu. She was a big fan of the goetta hush puppies. I am not a goetta fan so I passed on that one. We also tried the chicken skins and the half a fried chicken. The seasoning on the chicken skins was really excellent. What disappointed me was that the fried chicken didn't have the same seasoning. The fried chicken was moist, well-cooked but a tad bland. The chicken skins has a much better flavor. It was a good meal at a good price. I would go back and recommend it to others. If the restaurant reads the reviews...could we get your skins seasoning mix on your fried chicken? Please? Even if the restaurant say no, it is a restaurant well worth visiting in Covington. A parking lot is within walking distance but is not Libby specific. Put it on the visit list. read more

This place, like so many in Covington, is in a reclaimed space, a former industrial building with peeling paint on the brick and a ton of character. It also has a huge new apartment/condo across the street, which makes it very attractive to the residents and their guests. Its relatively small size and comfort food menu has made it pretty popular, and impossible to get into on weekends. Since they don't take reservations, you will be stuck waiting if you go during the peak dinner hours. DLW and I checked it out in the tween hours on a Saturday, after lunch but before dinner, and were seated right away. The bar offers signature cocktails, because it's required these days, but DLW's bourbon slush made with Cheerwine soda was so yummy she had another. Adding a "floater," a bourbon infused cherry garnish, cost an extra dollar, but worth it. Soft drinks are served in bottles and cans, not dispensed at the bar as you would expect. Chicken skins were crisp and very salty, but the honey dipping sauce helped cut the salt. Their version of a BLT had pork belly, cut nice and thick and laid on generously. Shrimp roll was also well filled, but the roll should have been softer, as it was a bit difficult to eat. Fries were oddly cut spirals, certainly different but otherwise just okay. Service was very good and attentive, even as the dinner crowd started surging in. It's not a cheap place, as our bill came to about $30 each, but we left full and happy. read more

Nice little brunch cafe. Friendly service and good food is a winning combination. I had the shrimp and grits. The grits were great, the shrimp was a little.over seasoned and salty. The goetta balls - might be the wrong name - were fucking awesome! The bloodys come with one. My buddy got the fried chicken which came out undercooked the first time. On the second try he said it was great. Overall friendly people and I recommend it but since I'm not from the area I probably wont be back because there are a ton of other restaurant that need to be tried. read more

I have seriously been on the hunt for the best fried chicken in the city. Found it! If you want any better you'll have to cook it yourself. That's how good these homemade dishes are. From the chicken, fried green tomatoes, Mac and cheese, and shrimp and grits, soooo good. We wanted to try something new for dinner and seen several articles about this restaurant. We had been following the progress and opening on Facebook as well. Despite the restaurant being completely packed when we arrived, we only had to wait maybe 20 minutes, and sampled the Cheerwine bourbon slush at the bar. Delicious. The restaurant has a very homey feel, and you are instantly comfortable. We had the goetta hush puppies for an app, and the Willy burgers for dinner. So, so good! If you love goetta, you will not be disappointed with the hush puppies. We interacted with probably 6 different staff members and every single one of them were polite and just geniunely happy. The shrimp and grits are amazing! So flavorful. We ordered the shrimp and grits appetizer, and it was enough to share among 4 people. Libby's provided us with a serving spoon and extra plates. We also ordered the whole chicken with sides of macaroni and cheese x2, french fries x1, and mashed potatoes. The french fries were also flavorful, and they had a great texture: crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. We had leftover friend chicken, and it was still amazing 2-3days later as leftovers. It maintained its texture and flavor. It was not soggy. The restaurant also had the tables spaced out for social distancing and all employees were wearing masks. 5/5 I would recommend this restaurant to my friends and visit here again. read more

The food was good slightly overpriced in my opinion. The ambiance was just ok. The hostess was amazing in her sparkly red blouse with a sparkling personality to match. Our server was attentive but not friendly. Didn't ask if we wanted dessert which we did. I also was a little frustrated with them being in a hurry to remove plates and such from the table. My first time there with family (5of is). It's a cute little place but extremely small (not enough tables). We had a family style table but shared part of the table with another party of 4. I had their special of the day (sea bass). It was a little bland but overall okay. The goetta balls were really good and the chicken skin was crispy but again kind of bland. They do give you some kind of spicy honey to dip the chicken skin but I think a little bit more salt and pepper would do. The servers were very friendly and our food came really fast. However, they did get our sides mixed up and were generous enough to give us extra sides for free due to their error. Overall it was a good experience. They need more room and stronger flavors in their food. read more

I am a sucker for brunch spots. I hate crossing the river to grab a good afternoon bite. I love the Covington atmosphere and the ambiance of the restaurant really makes you feel like your in a greenhouse cottage and not Covington. This was actually one of my favorite parts about it. Aside from the aesthetics, the food was good. Pricing was a bit much for the menu items offered, but I get what kind of clientele their looking for. We have been here 3 times now, and it has become my new favorite place. Having moved to the area at the beginning of covid, we have struggled to find places to eat that would meet our expectations. So glad we found Libbys. We've had lunch, sunday brunch, and now dinner and every meal has been a winner. On our first visit we had the chix skin appetizer which impressed me with how well it was fried. Light and crispy, well seasoned and not too greasy. Something that a lesser place could easily mess up. Fried chicken dinner was probably some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. Collard greens side was awesome. I could've eaten 2 more servings of them. My wife loved her spinach salad. Spinach was partly cooked leaving just a bit of crunch. So much better than the typical bitter raw spinach salad. Oatmeal cream pie dessert puts Lil Debbi to shame. Our drinks have always been good. Great bourbon selection. I am totally on board with their comfort vibe. The only thing I would suggest improving are the seats in the patio. As a larger person, those chairs are more like torture devices. Our first visit we sat on the patio and I had to perch on the seat to keep it from causing pain and fight the downward slant pulling me back away from the table. It was a very unpleasant experience. Luckily, the food was so good, we had to come back. We just avoid the patio now. If you're a skinnie minnie, feel free to eat in the patio and leave an inside seat for me. read more

Well, after hearing about Libby's on the radio and reading some reviews, it was clearly time for some delicious friend chicken and more. We were craving some brunch and in the mood for good meat so it seemed like a perfect solution and we were not disappointed. Located in the burgeoning part of Covington, the ambiance was nice, parking is attached (always a bonus), and the staff were friendly and helpful. Now, the food, that is really what people want to know about and well, the fried chicken is what they are known for but we were there for brunch so we had a bit of everything. While the salads looked delicious and there are two chicken options on the brunch menu as far as I remember, we went with the chicken and waffles (duh) and it was good. The star of the plate was the chicken which was perfectly breaded and fried and soooooo good. The waffle was a Belgian style waffle with a type of butter and syrup but had it not been for the chicken, I would classify it as just traditional and ok. As a baker and lover of scratch made buttermilk biscuits I am hard to please when tasting biscuits and gravy from others, but it was good. The French toast was good but again, having had some amazing French toast in my day, I would suggest making it a bit less soggy or adding less syrup on the plate as the flavor of the toast gets lost and it gets a bit soft. The beignet's were super sugar goodness but a bit underdone, still edible and the jam was a great complement. I would get them again as I think this was a fluke experience. So why 4 stars? The chicken is that good and we will return for more either via brunch or lunch or dinner or anytime we want to make ourselves happy. Pan fried, no bone, cooked perfectly, it came with the side salad and I had the honey port vinaigrette, and the dressing was a little to sweet for my likes but still good. I also tried to order the Gouda Mac n cheese but for some reason they no longer have it. There was a white cheddar version so I went for it and it was good, not amazing like the reviews for the smoked Gouda version. All in all a good experience. Best meal I've had since pre-Covid, and maybe much longer. Everything was simply perfect! There were three of us. We started with deviled eggs and oysters in the half shell. I normally eat my oysters straight up, but after dipping my finger in the cocktail sauce, combined with the horseradish, I made an exception this time. Wonderful combo. I ordered the roasted pork chop as entrée, which was a good inch and 1/2 thick and cooked to perfection. Tons of flavor and not over-cooked, which is rare these days(not a pun). Friend number one had the fried green tomato sandwich and said it was majestic. Friend number two consumed the oyster Po' boy in about three minutes. Judging by the speed of its disappearance, I'm assuming it was very good. We split a side of the collard greens, which might be my favorite ever. Not kidding. Bragged about this place all week, and seemed to get the same response from anyone who had been there before: "Idiot, next time you have to get the Goetta Hush Puppies." We had dinner there last evening. Very busy and service was ok. Part of the issue is way overcrowded with tables on the patio. Servers could barely make it around tables to serve people. Bar service was slow. We ordered oysters which were delicious. Goetta balls were not flavorful and way over priced for what you got. The chicken and biscuit sandwich was not good and the chicken looked like it was something you would get at Popeyes. The salad was good but nothing special and very small.
