I got the fish and chips and the fish lacked flavor but didn't lack in the amount of gross oil came out after cutting a piece off. The fries were soggy and oily. Soda tasted off. A really great place to go to when at canal side! Little side note they only seat you when everyone from your party is present! Love going here for lunch. The service was fast and the wait staff is friendly. -The Hungarian pepper dip was delicious and was not spicy -my sister ordered the fish tacos. I did try one and it had a funky taste to it. Came here for a nice dinner outside overlooking the Erie Canal Harbor and waterfront. We didn't have a reservation but told it would only be a 30 minute wait for a table outside. Went to the bar for a drink as we waited, bar is small and crowed. Got a brooklyn summer ale and found a place to stand and wait. We were seated at an outside table after about 20 minutes, nice view of canalside. I ordered the diver scallops with charred Brussels sprouts and fingerling potatoes. Scallops were tender and flavorful, loved the sprouts! I also had a dos baja taco, the shrimp one.... delicious! Well, finally made it to Liberty Hound after many years of not wanting to wait the two hours to get a table... I know now I wasn't missing much... The mussels we ordered as an appetizer were truly generous and delicious! There were chunks of bacon (bacon lardons) , sautéed onions and blue cheese in the most wonderful broth and warm buttered bread... this is where the amazing ends... Diver scallops with fingerling potatoes and charred Brussel sprouts with bacon lardons sounded so appetizing... in reality it had no seasoning, so it was just eh... it was small and exorbitant and didn't taste great... Fish fry was generous and crispy but nothing special or amazing... Mediterranean salad was romaine lettuce with cherry tomatoes, nasty old green peppers, red onion and feta... I ordered the grilled shrimp as an add on... there were 5 small grilled shrimp with no seasoning on my salad for an extra $7.00... not worth it! Go to date night spot. I absolutely love being on or near the water, and every time I go it's a good vibe. My favorite cocktail is the Liberty Lady which has a bunch of delicious muddled berries in it. Super refreshing and delish! Hubs is a fish and chips connoisseur and he is a big fan of theirs. I have an unhealthy obsession with ahi tuna and OMG their ahi tuna nachos are what dreams are made of. I wish I didn't love them so much so I could try other things on the menu but alas... I love this place in the summer. Pre-covid, it's a great spot to go for the concerts at canalside without dealing with the crowds. The location right on the water front is picturesque and the food and cocktail menu is great. If your like seafood, this is a must try. I have never been disappointed in what I ordered. The only thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars is customer service. We waited almost 25 minutes for our first round of drinks once our order was placed and our food (which we just ordered appetizers) took too long to come out. Updated Review-4/6/19 Once again, stopped in before a show at the arena. Made our reservation far in advance and score, it ended up being restaurant week! This year's deal for local restaurant week was great! It included a house wine or select beer, appetizer and entree for $20.19. I chose an EBC blueberry, the Caesar salad appetizer, and the gumbo. The salad was standard, croutons were not great. The menu said the gumbo included chicken, sausage and shrimp...however 3 out of 4 who ordered it did not have a single shrimp in all 3 bowls. Pretty disappointing. I'm glad it tasted good. It had a lot of heat, so I wouldn't recommend for those who don't tolerate spicy food. We all had a round of the Liberty Lady cocktail. One of my favorite in Buffalo! ------------------------------- Had a reservation before a show at Key Bank Center which was a good idea (tip for anyone wanting to eat here before a concert, make a reservation!). We had a great experience and would definitely return. I ordered the market salad and added chicken. There were so many glazed pecans it was amazing. The creamy pecan dressing was to die for. I actually looked up a recipe for it when I was done eating so I could make it at home. My mom ordered the buffalo wedge salad and had nothing but good things to say about it. Came here for lunch on Mother's Day. Ideal spot when it's sunny but it was chilly so we were inside. Food was outstanding. We split the banana pepper dip, which was very cheesy and delicious. A lot more dip than bread though, had to get more bread and very filling. Also got the crescent city spring rolls. Crispy and really flavorful with a tangy dipping sauce. Lastly I got the market salad with buffalo Panko chicken added. The Panko chicken was spicy but delicious!! Salad was a nice combo of goat cheese, strawberries and candid nuts. One of the few restaurants on the Buffalo waterfront by the historic naval park. Great place to go when the weather is nice, that being said, they also close during the winter so that isn't an option either way. Food - 3 stars Typical bar/pub fare with occasional seafood specials Ambiance - 4 stars Though it is on the waterfront, it isn't quite prime real estate and the outdoor seating is quite average. Service - 4 stars Servers and bartenders have been really good for all my visits. I've lived in Buffalo for the vast majority of my life and just recently made my first trip to Liberty Hound. Yes, yes - shame! It was a beautiful day and we were seated at a small table in the shade with a nice view of the nearby water, canal and stationed battleships. We didn't have to wait for a table at all during the weekday lunch hour. I do know that they fill up on weekends and evenings though quite often, so check ahead if you plan on going then. The service was friendly, prompt and left nothing to be desired. Considering its location next to the water, the prices really aren't high at all. Perhaps slightly above average, but not bad. I got a shrimp po' boy to eat. It was firmly in the "good, not great" category. Though it certainly hit the spot. I'd love to return here to eat dinner during a sunset at some point! I was looking for a place to eat in Buffalo before a Sabres game, and had trouble finding somewhere that was a) open on a Sunday b) within walking distance and c) had food that sounded appetizing. Liberty Hound was a pleasant surprise. It has a military theme, and shares space with a naval museum. They had great oldies music playing, a nice view of the Buffalo River and some really big Naval ships. Service was quick, but there weren't tons of tables occupied while we were there. We went on a freezing cold day, so I can imagine this place gets packed in nice weather. Their menu could be called American food or comfort food, though I thought it was a few steps up from the average bar fare. The menu is heavy on seafood, though there is something for everyone: salads, sandwiches, entrees, shared plates, etc. If you eat here, you can park for free in the Liberty Hound lot while you're at the stadium. That fact alone makes it worth coming here, but the food is good enough to come back even if you don't have an event to go to. I would definitely stop here again. Some notes on the food: -The truffle fries with parmesan are excellent. Please get these. -Eggplant Napolean was tasty and not greasy as it can be at many restaurants, but it was a little light on portion for the price. -The breaded cheese bites on the harvest salad were something else - yum! -Flourless chocolate torte was a rich and delicious way to end the meal. read more

My husband and I always avoided this restaurant and when we were looking for a place on the water to beat the heat, we just went in as there was not wait. So here we were overlooking the menu and found some great things to eat. They have a little bit of everything and the food was so delicious. My husband ate the Chicken and Brie and I chose the Liberty Burger. Each came a side, I chose the mista salad. Just a regular salad with mix greens but the dressing was so good. My husband had the French fries boring but I helped finish them. The Chicken and Brie had awesome flavors and the raspberry mayo really made the sandwich. My Burger was cooked to perfection and I needed a fork and knife to eat. We didn't try any drinks as it was warm and just had some waters. If it wasn't so warm we would have ate outside. Great view of the water and boats as well as Canalside. So glad we decided to come and try this place, we will be back to try all some other items on their menu. The Liberty Hound is a neat spot but it has some things to improve on. The experience I had here was a little bit of a mix bag. I came here as a group of seven on a Saturday afternoon/evening to grab dinner. The restaurant is right at the Buffalo and Erie County Military and Naval Park, so there is parking scattered all throughout the surrounding area (it may take a moment to find a spot but that's expected with downtown Buffalo, especially near Canal Side). We wanted a table outside but between Memorial Day and Labor Day, you can not call ahead and make reservations, so we had to wait until we got there to request a table. Initially, at around 4pm, we were able to get our table, but one of our party was running late, and a really strange policy here is that if not everyone in your party is there, you cannot be seated. I give the hostess credit for trying to give us extra time for our friend to come, but then we lost our outside table. Our friend arrived about 15 minutes after we lost the table. So we went back and were told it would now be an hour wait for a table outside or a 20 minute wait for a table inside. At this point, we opted for the table inside and all grabbed drinks at the bar and waited. About 35 minutes later, we were finally seated at our table. There was another review on Yelp that talked about how cramped the inside seating was and, sadly, I have to agree. The seating was a bit cramped and uncomfortable, but manageable. At this point, we were finally able to sit and order. I ended up ordering the Liberty Burger (cooked medium-well). It took longer than expected for our food to arrive as I observed families of four-five who were seated after us receiving their food before us. When the food arrived though, I will happily admit, it was great! The burger was cooked perfectly and had a wonderful flavor. They gave me plenty of french fries on the side and they seemed like they were just fried. The brioche bun was toasted and tasted wonderful with the burger. I cleaned my plate and walked away perfectly satiated. Another thing to note is that if you have a party greater than six people, you cannot split checks! We went to Liberty Hound for a bite during the science festival and were seated immediately even in the area we preferred, the dock. We shared the ahi tuna nachos and the daily special which was crawfish and corn fritters. To drink (not pictured) we had a bubba Bloody Mary complete with a jumbo shrimp and a gin and berry cocktail. This place was wicked cool. There is so much history just floating next to you. I really enjoyed all the pictures around the building of all the veterans. Sushi Nachos!!!!!! As soon as I saw the menu I knew I had to try them. How often does one see sushi nachos on a menu? Wow were they amazing! I felt like I was eating a crunchier version of deconstructed sushi minus the rice. The dish was colorful, beautifully prepared, and the flavors complimented each other well. I also ordered the lady liberty and the Hemingway daiquiri to drink. Both drinks were fruity, strong, and flavorful. These are 9-10$ drinks that match the price. They are constructed well, taste great, and they are decently sized. I was quite happy that the Liberty Hound doesn't give you a small scotch glass for a craft cocktail like some other bars in the area. It was great to sit outside by the water and enjoy the view. When Liberty Hound first opened its doors, my go-to was always the truffle fries. Years later, there's a reason they're still on the menu. Was hungry and decided to go here for lunch because it was right across the street from the museum we just visited. It was pretty busy, but we only waited like 5 minutes for a table. The table was out in the hot sun, but we were hungry so we were okay with it. It was an hour wait for anything inside or outside in the shade. The view is great and the food we ordered was good. I went to Liberty Hound with my two friends on a Tuesday night for dinner. We experienced excellent service and our food was delicious! Liberty Hound is owned by the same people who own Allen Burger Venture, Cole's, Brennan's, Blue Monk and Moor Pat. This dish is handmade pierogi filled with ricotta and Hungarian peppers, topped with tobacco onions and sour cream. It was really good! For my entree, I ordered the special: Rusty Chain beer battered Perch fish tacos. They was incredible! The fish tasted so fresh. I absolutely loved the Rusty Chain batter. I upgraded my side of french fries to their truffle fries covered in parsley, garlic, and Parmesan. I was very pleased with my decision. The fries were out of this world. My friend ordered the lobster roll, which she loved. My other friend ordered the Diver Scallops pasta in a pecorino cheese sauce. The pasta also had bacon, peas, shallots and egg cream mixed in. I had a few bites and I loved that too! The pasta noodles seemed to be homemade. The pecorino cheese sauce was absolutely delicious.. I was also very impressed by the scallops. Scallops can be tricky to prepare. These were fresh and cooked to perfection. The restaurant is located in the Naval Park. The surrounding scenery was beautiful (old ships, Buffalo Canalside) Unfortunately, we were there on a windy and cold day. We would like to return when the weather is better because the patio looked beautiful. It would be a fun place to have some cocktails in the sunshine.
