Wow. This cute little restaurant is situated perfectly next to Mother's Beach. You can have a water view from every seat. We went for brunch and it did not disappoint. The beignets were stellar!! I love how peaceful and scenic this cafe was. I had brunch here on a weekday and there was no wait to eat. The whole small cafe has an oceanview but I requested to sit directly next to the window and it was so beautiful that I would have waited for a spot to open if there had been a line. The service was impeccable with our waiter coming to check on us every few minutes and our water and coffee were constantly replenished. The menu does not tell you but all of the brunch items come with a side salad and the coffee and mimosas are bottomless. I personally prefer vanilla coffee and since they did not have vanilla creamer they brought me a side of vanilla syrup and a side of Creamer which was a very nice touch and allowed me to control the sweetness level in my smooth coffee. The generous portions left me satisfied and my friend and I had a lovely time What we ordered Bottomless mimosas: 10/10 fresh orange juice and champagne Lighthouse Benedict: 10/10 the presentation and moisture level were perfect and the sauce complemented the egg and and bread perfectly Coffee: 10/10 I love that our waiter brought creamer and vanilla syrup and the attention to detail really caught my eye. The coffee itself was incredibly smooth and I drank 3 cups and took 1 cup to go! Yorker sandwich: 8.5/10 the salad was not my favorite because I don't like bell peppers and the salt and pepper were overdone. Came here the last week for a graduation brunch. Unforunately we were a group of 10 so we had to wait a good 3 hours before we got seated :( But fortunately we were able to get some drinks along the downtown during the time being! After the time came we were able to be seated on the deck and be able to watch the boats go by. It was beautiful seeing the sunset while eating. I got the orange mimosas brunch flight. I believe it is 4 glasses of mimosas in a pitcher. I also got the lobster roll. The lobster roll was just okay for how much it costed. But the service and drinks were amazing! The view is breathtaking. That's the reason why we picked this place. The host is a bit rude in welcoming us. I told him I was in the waitlist and he was insisting that I was not until I spelled my name 3x. I wanted to have a decent coffee overlooking the shore. I totally understand that it's Labor Day and it's busy so we just decided to get a coffee to go while waiting for our table. I asked the host for 2 cups of coffee and 2 splendas, 2 creamer on the side. He said they cannot do that it needs to be mixed already and I said I don't know how it would it taste and I want to mix it by myself. He then said okay 2 black coffees only right? And was shocked that I got 2 black coffees without anything. I then instead went to the other guy to ask for some splendas and creamer. After waiting at least 1 hour and 30 minutes the host assisted us to our seats and I was asking if we could get the other table because there's more space for the stroller of our dog. He said, "WELL, YOUR DOG WILL BE FINE ON THE SIDE BECAUSE HE'S NOT GOING TO EAT RIGHT? " and just walked away. I asked for his name and he said it was - BRIAN, not sure if it's his right name but he's probably in his mid 20s - 30s. He didn't even offer the elevator for the stroller and not even apologetic for the wait. The waitress from upstairs saw us having a hard time carrying the stroller and she said come around there's elevator on the right side. Also, there's a lipstick stain in our glass. Love love love this place! My boyfriend and I decided to have a "casual" anniversary this year and by chance stumbled upon this restaurant after enjoying a day at the beach. The only good thing about this place was their beneighs. No point in making a reservation when they sit bigger parties that are walk ins first even though they arrive after the time you reserved. We also waited quite a bit to be checked in when the staff kept passing back and forth and saw us standing there but made no contact or advised they would be with us in a moment. The host left no desire of wanting to come back as she was rude and unpleasant. While we waited to be called back (which never happened until we went to see how much longer it would take) we heard another party complain about other guests being seated before them whom had also arrived after. Very poor service was provided, will definitely not be coming back. For their prices you would think they would have decent hospitality. The bathrooms are located outside, are open to public and were in horrific conditions. The toilets were disgusting and there was no toilet paper. If you will be directing your customers to use that facility you should have some cleaning arrangements made and make sure it's stocked. read more

I found this spot on Yelp and wanted to give it a try! The location itself is nice, however I went for dinner so I wasn't able to see it at its full potential (would highly recommend you visit for brunch instead of dinner). They only have a few tables available so be sure to make a reservation ahead of time if you can, but they do follow CDC recommendations in distancing the tables and their staff was wearing masks properly throughout the night. They also have heaters available for each table if the weather is a bit chilly. The service was quick to seat us however throughout the night it seemed they began to be more focused on closing instead of the customers. We weren't given a menu to look at when we were seated and our waiter expected us know what we were ordering, though it was our first visit. We also did not receive a notice that the kitchen was closing and were unable to place a dessert order at the end of our dinner. :( We ordered fish al pastor tacos, lobster rolls, and seafood pasta. The food was good but nothing special. These items were a little pricey considering I could get pasta similar in taste/quality from Olive Garden for less. I would love to give their brunch menu a try though, it looks like brunch might be their speciality. Overall, I am willing to give this spot another try for brunch to see how big the difference in experience is. Their dinner is not worth it, especially for your first visit. My aunt, mom and I decided to visit Newport Beach for the first time. We were looking for brunch places on a Sunday afternoon and decided to eat at The Lighthouse Cafe. Located along the Balboa Peninsula, the ambiance offers breathtaking views of Newport Bay. We were seated within 5 minutes and granted our request for a patio table on the 2nd floor. (We wanted an overlooking view of Newport Bay while dining). Wendy was our waitress and she is very amusing, caring and attentive! We ordered Steak Chilaquilles, Nachos, Fish & Chips and Romaine Caesar salad. The steak chilaquiles had the perfect balance of the crunchy homemade tortilla chips with the grilled tender carne asada and opted for scrambled eggs. Thankfully I was able to omit the salsa choices and their avocado sauce was tasty. The nachos were also tasty and was the "sibling" of the chilaquilles. Their fish and chips were fresh, crispy and not greasy at all. The coleslaw served as a perfect match, along with their special tangy tartar sauce. The caesar salad was delicious with fresh pieces of anchovies and shredded parmesan cheese. We could've ordered it with less dressing, but we will opt for that next time. Food really depends on what you get, but good overall and delicious apps. I'd come back for the apps and to try something else to give it another chance possibly. (And def during the day when it isn't cold and windy.) Although, we had a reservation, we ended up having to wait an extra 30 minutes. And waiting out in the cold wind is not a pleasant experience. Honestly, I was craving lobster rolls so I ordered it and was pleased to see two of them (demolished the whole plate mainly due to from being so hungry from the wait); however, there was honestly not a lot of lobster meat (it was shredded up almost like imitation crab meat) and a lot of Mayo. So I found myself scarfing the fries to balance out the Mayo even with all that bread. I know it was real lobster meat though because I crunched on lobster shell twice. The calamari and warm sourdough boule apps were very delicious although they got cold quickly due to being outdoor in the wind (not the restaurant's fault). The beignets were a bit doughy, but still good enough especially since it was free for the Yelp check in- so can't complain. The burger patty was apparently a bit dry, but the fries were delicious. But otherwise, the lobster rolls (my entreé) didn't really meet expectations in terms of flavor for the price point and to have to crunch on two pieces of lobster shell wasn't a pleasant experience. But, it did satisfy my craving temporarily and the apps were delicious. Service was adequate. Warning: bring a blanket for the evening even if they have outdoor heaters because it is windy! read more

Overall not a bad restaurant, but the price point led to the lower review. The service is great here and eating beachside makes for a relaxing experience, but the food was lacking. Not that there was anything horrible here other than the cheesecake they were offering at the time; my friends ordered the cheesecake and I tried a bite of it, but that's why I don't have a picture of it. The cheesecake's texture was off and had an extremely tart sauce over it that ruined what would have been an okay dessert. My friend ordered the roasted brussels sprout and while I don't have a picture of it, that was probably one of their best dishes here. The spicy diablo shrimp pasta I had here was also delicious. If you're okay with an extremely decadent dessert, the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie is perfect for you; think pizookie on steroids. Other than that, the clam chowder, caesar salad, and calamari were just okay. However, the lobster mac and cheese was disappointing. Was very bland and the texture wasn't cheesy at all. Get the brussels sprout instead and I know it sounds counterintuitive to get that over mac and cheese, but seriously the brussels were good (it has chorizo with it and gives it a nice kick). I think the dining environment, service, and some of the items here justify the price point, but there are definitely some items to avoid so be mindful when ordering. read more

Service with a smile I went here during COVID-19 and The first thing I noticed when I got there was how great the service was right away they made sure I had shade from the sun and asked what drink I wanted. Customers were all spaced out and employees were wearing masks. The moment i walked in and sat down Mary's service and friendly personality was noticed. She was actually really thoughtful to each the customers, and made them feel at home. Food: The avocado toast was one of the best I had at any place I been. The greens were fresh and with a hint of saltwith little round tomatoes, a poached egg and avocado spread on perfect toasted bread. And I don't know what bread that was but it was yummy to my tummy! The Lighthouse has a front row seat to beautiful Newport harbor, so I recommend making a reservation for an outdoor table. Second floor may be a bit nicer, but we had no issue sitting on the first floor this visit. The lunch menu has just enough variety without being overwhelming. Our table ordered a mix of lunchy-type plates, and overall we liked most of the dishes. I recommend the Skirt Steak Salad - it's perfectly medium rare in the middle & has a gently charred outside. And leave room for dessert! The Warm White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookie is so good.... warm and gooey with a scoop of vanilla ice cream slowly melting on top. read more
