My fiance and I were walking around Abbot Kinney and the pizza smelled amazing from outside. While debating if we should go in, someone outside told us that the pizza was "the best" and we should have a slice. My guy ordered 2 pieces of pepperoni and I got one plain. The total was $14 or so, then we tipped another dollar. I noticed afterwards that my pizza had an "everything" crust (which I didn't ask for but was happy to have). The pizza was cooked, put into a box and separated by a plate (picture attached). The lady behind the counter put the box in the to-go area but never said if it was ours (there were multiple people waiting). I yelled to ask if it was ours, it was, and we took it outside. The pizza *looked* great, but I didn't care for it. I'm *from* New York and know good pizza! This crust was a little too thick for me, and the ends were just regular crust with everything seasoning on it. I didn't finish my piece (or even 1/2 of it). It wasn't worth the calories. The pepperoni pizza was definitely better, but both had a bit of grease and neither were "great" to me. My fiance finished both of his pieces. I think the inventive pizza options are a neat idea, and love that they offer gluten free options. I don't think I'll be back, but if I did, I'd try a GF crust as they tend to be crunchier. Needed a late night slice and the tomato basil was just out of the oven. The girl put it back in for a min cuz she wanted to make sure it was crispy for us. The staff was really friendly, loved that they were just singing and happy to be at work! Pizza was tasty and fresh and not too oily. The spicy sauce is ok to eat with leftover crust, but I wouldn't suggest having it with the pizza itself. Overall I'd recommend it if you're in the area. read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for awhile, and while Abbot Kinney Boulevard is a revolving door of gentrified boutiques pinned between trendy sit downs with bad lighting, Abbot's Pizza is a true Venice mainstay- the kind of place that were it to ever shudder (god and all that is holy forbid), I'd expect a riot, candlelit vigil, and an uptick in requests for pizza-related tattoos in the weeks following. Grab a slice or get a whole pie if you're in the neighborhood. It's the best pizza in Venice, probably anywhere in West-LA. Highly recommend the curry chicken pizza with an onion crust and spicy dipping sauce- it's a revelation. Or if you've got more basic pizza needs, get a NY style slice. It's all good. I was so excited when I moved to the area and realized there's a pizza shop within walking distance to my place. Unfortunately, I was under-whelmed by the slices here. Got one pepperoni and one white slice and I wasn't crazy about either. I think the part I liked least was the actual pizza crust because it was covered in what looked like seeds. The white slice was even less satisfying because it didn't have the right flavor for a white pie. I think it was just the wrong type of cheese for me. If you're on Abbott Kinney and need to eat a slice ASAP, this place isn't terrible. But if you've got the time and energy to venture further away, there are plenty of other pizza spots to try. read more

Athen's pizza extra large...mamma mia!! I've been to a handful of pizza places in La now and so far I think this was the tastiest pizza I've tried. The crust was wonderfully tasty, fresh, thin, and flavorful. The cheese complimented the spinach and the portions of the ingredients were perfect. The bits of sundried tomato were little treats after every other bite and I was just very impressed and pleased with our order. Unfortunately I don't think the pizza tastes as good the next day whether eaten cold or heated up again. At least this one didn't keep well. I recommend ordering a size catered to your current appetite and expect an extra large to feed 4 hungry people. The slices are huge but thin. I will most def. be back. read more

What an awesome find in historic downtown Venice Beach! My friend and I were hanging on Venice Beach riding bikes and was craving some good pizza by the slice, so I found this place on Yelp. It's a cute little place with a HUGE variety of pizza's by the slice. I ended up getting the supreme. My friend got a ricotta spinach one and a pepperoni sausage slice. Abbots Pizza is 2 stars max. Service is slow behind the cashier just chilling talking to people as a large lines forms. People even left because they were fed up with waiting. I had called ahead and made an order two large pies on Bianca the other Greek $61 bucks that's outrageous. Sub par pizza at best dough seemingly undercooked, topping spread out unevenly without care. The pizza here looked better to me than it tasted. The shop is small and they do have a good variety of pizzas. My issue was with the sauce. It just wasn't very flavorful which made they whole pizza just taste kind of bland. Was this place an absolute no? We are Venice locals and have been eating here for at least 15 years. The food used to be unique and interesting but most of all... consistent and true to their Venice roots. Round of applause to that. Salad pizzas rival no other. That bagel crust was mmm mmm good. Somewhere along the line the relaxed environment led to serious lapses in quality control. Over the last several months our pizzas have been cold or late or missing something pretty crucial to the pizza experience. Their former consistency has been replaced with a product the owners can't possibly be proud of. We had a basic cheese delivered 1.2 miles away - it took 40 minutes and came with a giant hole. When I asked for them to resend something they were kind enough to oblige saying it would take 30 minutes since they were busy. Fair enough. It's been over an hour and a half and still no sign of our pizza minus a hole. Other neighbors have gotten their pizzas while I've been waiting. Pitfire. Pizzana. California pizza kitchen. Come on... you can do better! Stoked you're hanging on to your real estate over there but don't get eclipsed by the better service and product! I vote to give them your business if you're on the street actually shopping because they have great selections in store but I wouldn't risk trusting your dinner plans to their delivery system or their takeout quality control. This place is TINY so do not plan to eat here. It was busy and had a bit of a line, but it moves quick. I had intended to order an entire pizza and really wanted to try out the salad pizza, but we ordered slices instead. I can't eat onions so was somewhat limited, and I got the cheese pizza with ricotta and mushrooms. There wasn't even an entire mushroom on my slice. Generally, it was okay, but I wouldn't come back to order it again. It also had an everything crust, which I was looking forward to, but I think just the regular crust would have been better. Let me just start by saying I'm not the biggest salad fan BUT their Salad Pizza is so good! A slice of it is gigantic and leaves you feeling more than satisfied. It has light dressing with lots of feta cheese, crunchy while still fluffy cheese pizza below and all topped with slices of fresh avocado. I added some parmesan cheese and a touch of red pepper flakes and it was perfect. It's a small pizza shop with limited seating so if you're looking to sit down for hours, this may not be the spot to do so. Now besides just the Salad Pizza.... There was the slice of Popeyes Pizza. That one is just superb! I may have also be extremely hungry after a full day of hiking and Venice Canals strolling but wow, it was great. If you've been to Secret Pizza in Las Vegas you'd probably agree with me that the Popeyes Pizza reminds you of it. Great garlic flavor with gooey cheese, chicken breast pieces that weren't dry and slivers of onion to cut through it all. My office is a few blocks away from Abbot Kinney and this place is one of our office favorites - it's also gluten free! We usually order the salad pizza, cheese pizza, and veggie pizza. Each slice of pizza from here is HUGE. You can order it by slice and get pizzas with different toppings. The salad pizza is my favorite! It has lettuce, cheese, tomato, and avocado all on one pizza. The spicy mayo goes great with this pizza! I don't feel as bad after I eat this pizza as it is somewhat healthier. The cheese pizza is really good as well. Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high. I thought the pizza was good, but nothing all that great. The "Five Onion" pizza's combo of onions was definitely unique (in a good way), and I liked the softness of the slice. It wasn't a huge fan of the "Bianca," which gives a different take on the white pizza, but was a too soft and had too much ricotta. The bagel crusts were the best part of the pizza, and each slice had a different crust. Unfortunately however, the crust only takes up about 1/8 of the area. Next time I'm there, I'll go for the more traditional BBQ Chicken and Meat Eater's to see if I just went to outside the box this time. In terms of process, there are two racks of pre-made pizzas on the front counter when you arrive. Look at the chalk menu to the left, and pick your slice(s), and the staff will put your slice(s) back into the oven and warm them up. Customers can sit on stools to the left and right at small counters. A boombox is sitting in front of one of the stools, which makes that seat and that whole area unbelievably loud. Not sure why they don't have surround sound (very small investment). Note: the spicy dipping sauce is really spicy. The menu on Yelp is much easier to read and manageable than the chalk menu on the wall. read more

I really wanted to try the salad pizza...but they didn't have any so we would've had to wait for a long time...instead we got a slice of Gypsy, Popeyes chicken, and chicken picante (for the 3 of us), and those were all good too!
