I have lived in LA for 33 years and I miss New York Pizza even more than I miss New York Bagels! So imagine my surprise when I was invited to lunch in Venice at a little place named "Abbott's Pizza". That place has been around for almost as long as I have lived here and, well, maybe it should not have survived Pandemic? That might have been a mercy killing. But then ... a tech guy from New Haven, Connecticut came in and bought the old restaurant from the original owner and ... wow! What a difference! The pizzas are totally different now and so much better! Think "Mystic Pizza" more than "CPK" and you will see what I mean (check out my pictures for the details)! My surprise has turned into sheer delight! The pizza dough is now a 48-hour sourdough and it is incredibly tasty!!! They have about a dozen different kinds of toppings on the slices and so many of them are terrific! I do not eat meat on my pizza, but my friend just raved about how good was the sausage pizza! Personally, I was torn between the Plain Mootz (yummy tomato and cheese with a great flop; delicious sauce; tangy tomatoes; pure delight!) and the BBQ Chicken with savory sauce and tasty chunks of chicken! Two winners for sure! For those of you who want to eat more healthy, the new owner has kept the Salad Pizza -- and has improved upon the avocado by whipping it with lemon juice so it stays bright green and does not get oxidized and turn brown from the air. The best news of all is that the new owner, JD, is renovating and updating the shop, putting in new, more comfortable seating, and has hugely upgraded the beverage selection! LilGuy will be the new name soon, and this is sure to become a hot spot on Abbot Kinney Blvd., even without "Abbott's" in the name! Fantastic New Haven style pizza; crunchy, chewy, perfectly cooked dough with a great mouth feel; friendly staff; comfortable seating; and very affordable prices. The Lil Guy is sure to be a winner! I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love Abbot's! Abbot's has been an Abbot Kinney neighborhood favorite since the '90s, and after meeting new owner Jay today, I'm even more excited about what's ahead. Jay actually lives in the neighborhood, genuinely cares about Abbot's and couldn't have been nicer. He has plans for the upcoming redesign and--WOW. This little Venice pizza shop is about to get a seriously beautiful makeover while still keeping the personality that made people love it in the first place. And let's talk ingredients. They're using quality products including Grande Cheese and Ezzo meats, and you can taste it. The BBQ Chicken Pizza remains one of my favorites anywhere--whole-milk mozzarella, BBQ chicken, smoky Gouda, red and green onions and just the right amount of BBQ sauce on that fantastic everything-bagel crust. And where else are you getting a Salad Pizza like this? Mozzarella and ricotta are baked on the everything-bagel crust, then topped with greens, tomatoes, onion, feta, lemon vinaigrette, Parmesan and whipped avocado. It sounds crazy. It works. Abbot's will always be one of the best pizzas in LA. New owner, new energy, beautiful changes coming--and some seriously good pizza. I can't wait to see what comes next. read more

I have written a review for this place in the past when they messed up an order, but I've been ordering from here for almost 20 years. A favorite. We just ordered tonight and never will again. Quality has decreased markedly. Greasy, heavy in the sauce which tastes cheap, crust is meh. Salad is awful and overly dressed. Just my opinion but it's just not as fresh and good as it used to be. Tastes like a completely different and new restaurant, and not in a good way. ETA: The new owner Jay's response made me remove a star. Called and spoke to a nice guy who should be commended for weathering the storm there. Best of luck to you with your hurt feelings and intentionally bad salad. read more

Stopped by Abbot's Pizza around 11am on Sunday and noticed multiple people ordering the bacon, egg + cheese, which felt like a good sign so I had to try one! And honestly, $5 for a bacon, egg + cheese on the Westside is hard to beat. Best deal I've seen! It's made on pizza dough roll so if you love pizza crust - you'll love it. Great for a quick & inexpensive breakfast! They also have Coca-Cola in glass bottles, which is always a go-to! I stayed for a slice of pizza too and ordered the sausage + pepper with a side of their special Sunday sauce. The pizza was so good and the Sunday sauce was definitely worth getting on the side. It's their take on marinara and it's bomb. You can tell there's a lot of thought going into keeping this a neighborhood spot while giving it a fresh take on the BEC. read more

Stopped in at Abbot's Pizza Company for the first time in a number of years and was pleasantly surprised. The pizza had a nice, crisp crust--not floppy, with plenty of good ingredients/flavor. They also offer a few different salads, which is a nice option. Prices are about average imho, especially considering the Abbot Kinney location. I'll definitely be back. read more

Delicious pizza at this hole in the wall right on Abbot Kinney Blvd. Server was patient and friendly explaining our options. I had a slice of the Billy Hoyle with a side of their spicy sauce (included) and my son enjoyed his cheese pizza (the Plain Mootz). We ate inside at a countertop. WHAT HAPPENED??? If it ain't broke DON'T FIX IT!!! I don't know if APC got sold or what but the salad pizza is not the same! I LOVE that pizza. I crave that salad! It was simple and fresh and crisp and perfect. Just a hint of lemon and olive oil for the dressing. It was legendary. But they changed it for some ungodly reason. WHY? Get rid of that avocado cream sauce and just put small chunks of fresh avocado like you used to. Omit it entirely if you cant get your hands on good ones and put the sauce on the side. Stopped by here today for a quick bite to eat before going to a pop up elsewhere. I was eyeing the salad pizza, but went for buffalo chicken instead. I liked it and thought it was a solid slice of pizza. Didn't realize they were under new ownership and some older patrons are upset, but I will say there was still bagel crust today (another review said there wasn't). I enjoyed it so I think it's still worth checking out and maybe bugging the owner to bring back some classics. read more

So disappointed! Whenever I am in Venice, I make it a point to grab a slice or two. I went with the mushroom and salad pizza along with a can of Diet Coke, $23!? For these prices, I expected the usual quality and flavor. Lack of flavor, ingredients are not the same, slice was thinner, crust was burnt, no more avocado or nice slices of tomato on the salad pizza. I am truly heartbroken. For $23, I could've attempted to recreate this recipe at home and would've probably done a better job. No more Abbot's pizza for me. read more

After learning yesterday of the demise of two of my fav LA restaurants, I wandered along Abbot Kinney for awhile and stopped in at Abbot's Pizza Company, a small take out joint with a window bar to sit that has been dishing out Pizza pies since 1995. That in Venice years, like dog years, or Dogtown years perhaps, is over 50 years old. I was glad it is still there as most of this street has changed over a number of times since the anchor tenant on this rough block in the day was The Brig. In 1952, local Venice boxing hero Babe Brandelli retired from boxing and opened "Babe Brandelli's Brig." For over 40 years, Babe and his descendents operated THE BRIG at its present location while living in the 2nd floor apartments above. A classic Mom & Pop neighborhood bar, THE BRIG was a local favorite for inexpensive alcohol served nearly all day and night. In later years it was a 'dive' for bikers and others attracted to such venues. As a teenager whenever I walked past The Brig, bodies were literally flying out the door and I witnessed more than one fist fight if that's what you would call someone punch drunk trying to throw punches. This Abbot Kinney shares nothing with the old nor the diceyness of Electric Avenue and around Abbot Kinney in the days before electricity when me and sabertooth tigers roamed Venice. If you don't believe me I've started a religion based on these facts. Begin here if you skipped the above: I ordered a Gluten Free Bianca- Red Onion, Fresh Sliced Tomato with Mozzarella, Parmesan & Ricotta, Basil and Garlic Pesto Sauce. They offer a 10" and 14" but no slices for GF pizza although the pizza man at the counter said that he gets lots of requests. My disease is becoming a movement. During my 20 minute wait for my Bianca Pérez-Mora Macías pie, I whiled away the time talking with a woman and her dog also salivating waiting for their pizza. Actually, I was the one salivating. We spoke of the intuitiveness and intelligence of dogs. By the way, has anyone since Ray Bolger actually whiled away the hour? I continued to walk now with my hot pie in hand stopping to take pics and on to my home where I devoured half of the pie which was absolutely delicious. I saved the other half for tomorrow. The service was terrible; the pizzas aren't made fresh. They keep them stocked like at a 7Eleven and just reheat them. The tables were dirty. That's why I didn't leave a tip, and the cashier said, "Damnnnn!!!" I don't leave a tip if I don't get good service. read more

I started eating at this pizza shop when it was located on the Venice Beach Boardwalk. It later moved to Abbott Kinny in the early 90s and was known as Abbott Kinny Pizza. Now it is just habit Pizza. Whenever I come into Los Angeles, I always make sure to stop here for at least a slice. I can't believe how the prices have risen. You used to be able to get a slice and a soda for $2.50 Now it's way over eight bucks. The crust is good. It's thin and crispy and if you get a full pie, you can have anything needed into the crust like garlic, sesame seeds, and other various types of add-ins. read more

I literally just walked out of this place empty handed and disappointed that the new ownership has taken this neighborhood classic downhill. This used to be the best pizza shop around if you were looking for a decent slice of New York style pizza. They recently changed ownership. They changed the crust recipe, the toppings, and started doing everything to cut cost at the detriment to a good slice of pizza. Now it is a mediocre overpriced under topped slice of pizza. It is sad to see a neighborhood fixture change ownership and go downhill. Bring back a solid generously topped slice of pizza at a reasonable price and customers will start coming back. If people wanted to pay $10 for a mediocre slice of pizza, they could go down the street to Gelina. Abbot's used to fill the Abbot Kinney void of good food at a reasonable price. Gone are the days. The old staff is still there and they're friendly and great, but their hands are tied because they can't really do anything about it. :-/ Good luck finding a decent slice of pizza this side of the 405. Have lived around the corner since AP opened 1995 - raised three kids in it! Was always delicious and their star faded as the years went by - sorry! Just had a slice there under new ownership and it was delicious! You can taste quality As far as increased prices - the rent when they opened and they rent now is x 100 ++! Abbot's Pizzeria is an Abbot Kinney staple and while I'm a New York pizza girl at heart, this place is pretty solid for what it is. I've had their pizza both by the slice and as whole pies during events and it's been consistently good. Expensive, yes, but also tasty and reliable. It's a small space with full pizzeria vibes: the counter display, the giant pies, the heat of the ovens, the quick turnover of slices, and limited seating along the wall. It's not glamorous, and that's exactly why it works. The employees fit that pizzeria vibe as well... Whether you're grabbing a slice after wandering the street or ordering whole pies for a group, Abbot's is good especially with their creative toppings and signature crusts. One of my absolute favorite things? Walking past and smelling the pizza aroma drifting onto the sidewalk. read more

Had a chance to try Abbots when in LA and this was a nice experience. This is a very causal pizza spot that sells a variety of slices with limited seating. We ended up getting a slice of pepperoni and bbq chicken. The pepperoni was delicious - the pizza came out fast and service was quick. This is an amazing place for a huge slice of pizza. My go to's are the meat lovers and the salad pizza. The salad pizza is honestly the best thing around and especially when you top it off with the creamy red sauce. The sauce has a small kick to it but it's a great combo. I love on the east side of LA and anytime im on the west side I make sure to stop by to get a slice. The staff are amazing as always. The space is a little small so not a lot of seating but I've never had an issue grabbing a seat. Overall amazing place and highly recommend. read more

This is the only place I've ever had a salad pizza. It is topped with Romain lettuce, tomatoes, avocado and feta cheese. They also provide you with their own spicy dressing which takes the flavors to a whole another level. It's so good that I didn't miss not having meat in my pizza. I said I'd give the benefit of the doubt, but he's clarified he won't be changing anything despite the critiques, so I'm lowering the score and won't be eating here again unless it changes hands again in the future.
