My friend brought me here for lunch so we could try their lunch menu. We started with the pastries and cream puffs, which were a nice treat, but I'm really glad we also tried the oxtail soup and prime rib entrees. Everything was packed with flavor. The steaks were huge, cooked well, and very flavorful. Definitely a satisfying meal and I'll be coming back to try more items from their menu. I have to say, some of the pastries were a little sweeter than I personally prefer, but I'm still glad I got to try them. I know I am probably in the minority, but I've never really understood the hype around Liliha Bakery. My husband loves the oxtail soup, so we end up here once in a while, but this latest visit didn't win me over. I ordered the saimin and it was disappointing. The broth was overly salty and the noodles were overcooked and mushy. Saimin is comfort food, and this bowl just wasn't comforting. Service was minimal, and we were seated directly across from the kitchen. I know some people enjoy watching the action, but I don't. Personally, I don't want a front-row seat to food prep while I'm eating. It made the experience feel chaotic and less appetizing. The bakery items are still good, but the restaurant side continues to leave me underwhelmed. My husband will probably keep coming back for the oxtail soup. As for me, I'll happily pass. read more

We were in town for a meeting. Since we were in Ala Moana we had lunch at our favorite comfort food restaurant Liliha Bakery. We had the Fried Chicken and Country Omelette with their famous Butter Rolls. They were very busy but they did a great job of getting everyone seated. Our server did a good job. This location is very convenient and easily accessible if you are shopping at the mall. They open at 7 am which is an hour later than their original location which makes it harder to grab treats and get to work before all the traffic starts. When I get there early they have everything, but sometimes later in the afternoon they start to run out of items. One item I wanted to try was their kouign-amann and it looked good but was bit dry. I think I will stick to their poi mochi donuts which are soft and a bit chewy without being overly sweet. My daughter also loves their hotdog roll with a mayo/ketchup top. Service is always good at 7 am. I have eaten sit down meals at this location and sometimes you have to wait depending on the amount of people there. The restaurant is located within/next to Macys so you can sip while you wait. The inside is nice and bright but wish they had a better view rather than the parking lot. We went to this location because we're staying in Waikiki. I enjoy the mac nut waffles which didn't disappoint me. My husband tried the smoked pork belly with two eggs and multi-grain rice. Unfortunately the smoked pork belly wasn't smoked enough. He didn't think it was pork belly because there was minimal fat. It seemed like pork loin. Servers were friendly and helpful but it didn't seem like there was enough help because no one came to ask us if we needed anything. We had to look for someone. We were there when they opened so that may have been the reason. Aside from that ambiance was fine. Music may have been a bit too loud. Affordable prices for portions. Liliha Bakery was so... hard to find LOL. We were wandering back and forth through the Ala Moana Shopping Center trying to locate this restaurant. Was it in Macy's? Next to Macy's? Google Maps showed that it was in Macy's, but we were like "there's no way lol." But after circling the perimeter a couple of times, we were like "idk let's check the inside of the Macy's." We roamed around the inside of the Macy's for a while and eventually made our way to the third floor where the women's clothing section was. We didn't actually think that Liliha Bakery would be there, but we were running out of places to look. But it was! Right there, on the third floor of the Macy's, next to the dresses, was the entrance to Liliha Bakery. The sight was a little bizarre because like why would it be there, but regardless, that's where it is.  We put our name on the waitlist through the kiosk and waited about 15 minutes for our table. Service was very nice. We all got the loco moco with fried rice. It was so good! The hamburger patty tasted like it was fresh off a charcoal grill - a little smoky with a delicious charred edge. The garlic fried rice was so good too. We all scraped our plates clean! This was probably the best loco moco I've ever had. I'll definitely have to give Liliha Bakery another visit on my next trip to Oahu... and this time, I'll know exactly where to find it! read more

Liliha Bakery is a local staple, and in recent years they've added a bunch of new locations. We've gotten takeout from this one inside Macy's a few times, but only dined in for the first time recently. You can get here through the store, or simply park right outside on the top level. They have a counter with their baked goods and other items to go as well. This place was busy! But the host was efficient to greet everyone and people were seated quickly. We sat at the big bar, which had no wait and the server was very fast to take our order. The menu is gigantic, with local foods, sandwiches, and breakfast. I had the kimchi fried rice, sooo good with lots of flavor. Portion sizes are huge for the price. The side of mac salad was yummy too, lots of dill. dining in..... I met some co-workers this past weekend for dinner. Since we live in different parts of the island, the consensus was to meet at somewhere central-ish with a lot of parking available. Thank goodness Ala Moana has lot of food options. NOTES 1. The restaurant is located at Macy's on the third floor; this is the former Pineapple Room space. 2. This location has a restaurant AND bakery section.....though the bakery wasn't too busy when we arrived. 3. There's a dedicated entrance from the parking lot....upper deck mauka side. Or, you can walk thru Macy's also. 4. Similar to other locations, check-in at the host stand to be seated. 5. Soda and coffee are refillable. I had 2 refills of my coke zero. Our group of 4 met at 5:30. Thankfully, the restaurant was not busy at all and we were seated immediately. Having been to other LB locations, we didn't deliberate too long on what to order. I chose the chicken kaarage (white rice with tossed salad), while other ordered the chicken milanese (special), mushroom chicken, and the loco moco. The server dropped off the famous LB dinner rolls with their signature jelly while we waited for our food. Since we spent a lot of time catching up, we felt we didn't wait too long for the food. As expected, the food at LB doesn't disappoint as its comfort food at its finest. I really enjoyed my entree, as it was a decent portion and the chicken was prepared well enough, but I thought it could do with less sauce. Everyone enjoyed their food, but like myself, asked for take out box for their leftovers. The one item no one took home was the dinner rolls because those were long gone by meal's end. Went to have lunch with some old coworkers this past week. We got there about 11 and there were a large number of people waiting to get seated (I'd guess) about 20 or so. We were surprised that many people were there midday on a Tuesday. We put our name on the list and waited about 15 minutes to get seated. The restaurant was crowded and a bit noisy. We did have to get close to hear or speak a loudly to hear each other. Not a deal breaker but something to know if you are having a business meeting. Server was friendly and knowledgeable. We placed our order and food arrived in under 10 minutes. I ordered the 2 eggs, rice and meat. I wouldn't say the meal was bad but I had eaten at the Pearl City location and in comparison it was not the same. Eggs and sausage are hard to mess up and those were ok, sausage did seem a little under cooked. My issue was with the fried rice. Rice was kind of mushy and not very flavorful. Oh well, maybe it was just an off day. With all that said I'd still return, but probably order something else. read more

I recently dined here for a brunch double date. The wait was okay, & the food was delicious. However, the service could have been better. After our server started us off with our beverages & bread, she gave us a few minutes to decide our food, before checking in on us to see if we were ready to order. She came back three times. By the third time, we had decided our orders & were going to tell her, but she came off condescending when she asked the third time saying something along the lines of, "are you guys finally ready to order?" We brushed it off & told her our orders before waiting patiently. Throughout our eating time, she did not check on us & only appeared when we finished & needed the check. My friend handled the bill, & we waited for the receipt. After we received the receipt, we were getting up from the table & discussing how much to tip when Lisa came up to us with the check saying something along the lines of it being rude to not add gratuity. As far the grilled shrimp, it was seasoned well with a smokiness flavor from being charred. I like when they charred their hamburger too...same affect! They have delcious chiffon cakes - my favorites are the guava and passion fruit - pillowy soft with taste. Frankly, I prefer this location rather than the one on Nimitz. I like the overall thought of not worrying about cramped parking spaces (depending where you park at the mall) or long wait times just to be seated. The Food: Generous portions, consistent quality. We've been here at least a dozen times over the years and have never had a bad meal. Breakfast: The omelettes are my go-to. Fluffy eggs, never overcooked, perfectly seasoned. And yes, they have brown rice. Coffee is bottomless. Lunch/Dinner: My personal favorite is the Oxtail Soup--loaded with tender oxtail, plenty of peanuts, and love the abundance of Chinese parsley. Out of town relatives wanted to meet for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Grateful to my CIL who made a res in advance for a party of thirteen. Location is spacious. We had ample room with two separate tables. My heart was set on Smoked Pork Belly Loco Moco. However, Server informed us that pork is not available yet at this location. I opted for Loco Moco Fried Rice and was told the loco moco is not ready yet. I would've been less perturbed if our Server informed us in advance or cover with a sign indicating "Out" I had to go for Garlic Fried Rice, Sunny side Eggs and Portuguese Sausage. Breakfast satisfied my appetite. Grilled Butter Rolls with Jelly are to die for! Container is much smaller for the jelly. My thoughts, "Ay sus! Roll no fit in the tiny container. Must pour some jelly over the roll. Here we go!" I poured a little jelly on the roll. Our Server of Filipino ancestry wasn't fully alert or observant to customers' needs. She didn't notice we lacked any utensils for our meals. 12 of the 13 guests are of Filipino ethnicity. When we asked her to bring utensils for our table, she asked, "How many more?" Shocked by her response. We informed her, "We have none." Then she said, "Oh!" We're surprised with the nonchalant response. No apologies. I'm thinking, "Are you kidding me? This is not a Kamayan feast where bare hands are the norm. We're in a local style restaurant where we require utensils." After hiccup in customer service was resolved, we're able to catch up on family life and future plans. Liliha bakery is a favorite of mine when visiting Honolulu. My most favorite thing is their butter biscuits and red jelly. Then from their bakery my most favorite item is their coco cream puffs with Chantilly topping. This one is conveniently located walking distance from Ala Moana hotel where we stayed. This one is a standard coffee shop, no frills restaurant type of setting. Of course the one in International Market Place is so much nicer. Their bakery section is loaded with their usual delicious baked goods. The birthday cake in my pictures was the Rainbow cake-it was moist and very good. Their baked goods make for good treats to take when visiting family. Loco moco was pretty good. You really can't go wrong with this dish. Portions are big enough to share. Overall, prices are pretty reasonable too. We got lost on our first time there. If you take the ramp from the hotel to the mall, walk straight towards Macy's and take the garage stairs up to the third floor parking lot. You can't get to it when Macy's is closed. For convenience, this is probably a better location. For ambience and a nice outdoor Hawaiian ambience, the one in International Market Place is much better. read more

That said, the experience was hard to fully enjoy because there was a large roach that crawled under our table before we got our food.
