Nice diner, slow service because it's understaffed... but the food is great and the coffee is freshly brewed.

Went there for late lunch around 4 while waiting for my car being washed at Lyon's carwash. I normally would run to Mandarin Wong, but they are closed on Mondays. There were only a few people on 4 tables, but the super-friendly waiter was very busy and was running back and forth to the tables. It was my first time and I was going to ask a question about the menu ( I order it to-go) but he told me to wait.. I felt like he could've answered me first and ran to those tables. Fortunately, the food was very quickly prepared. The super-smiley waiter had a heavy-accent and he spoke quite fast so it was a little difficult for me to understand. I am glad he was nice and patient. I'm not when I'm hungry, but his smiles helped. I was also surprised to see that my order of $12.21 looked like it would not fill me (yeah it didn't). I ordered the 'special entree' of stir-fry beef over rice and paid extra for a cup of salad.. tasted okay, nothing special and the portion is a little small. Regretted I ordered that to-go. Will give another try when I have someone to accompany me to eat there and perhaps during breakfast time since the interior seem pretty old-school and many of the reviews compliment the breakfast menus and deals. read more

I used to have breakfast here fairly often, but, honestly, that they run Fox News on both their TV's, ALL the time, is a real turn off. It's much more pleasant to have breakfast elsewhere, like the Egg Plantation or Eggs and Things. Even IHOP is less stressful. read more

Breakfast at Lily's this morning. Local favorite comfort food restaurant in this neighborhood. Bacon and scrambled eggs with complimentary side of fruit for me today. Bacon a little crisp and coffee a little too strong, could not drink it with 6 cream, 3 sugar. $16.50 with tip a little pricey for typical fare. Lily keeps atmosphere light with her signature singing and humming. Plenty of loyal customers for breakfast today. Staff are friendly though not always the most efficient. TV a plus. Some staff have trouble changing the channel with the clicker system. Wasn't the best draw on food quality today, but I've had better meals at Lily's, and I'll be back. read more

When we first moved here 5 years ago with a daughter named Lilly we had to eat here first. Since than we go on a semi regular basis not as much as before. Nothing wrong just always trying other stuff. Family owned owner works quite a bit singing and greeting guest and regulars. This is somewhere my girls can get pancakes, hamburger with fries or chicken nuggets. I can get healthy salmon, salads or breakfast. One will never miss Lily, she's the lady behind the counter that belts out a few notes, when she feels like singing, which is quite entertaining. Not an extensive menu but the food is always good! Well I have been wanting to try a new place in SCV for sometime and Lily's came up on my radar recently. Lily's is a little Mom and Pop kind of cafe attached to a bowling alley tucked away in the rear of a large strip mall. The place was clean and service was prompt. It appeared to me instantly that this was the social gathering place for all the local octogenarians, so I figured prices should be good, and they were. Menu was kind of small but I was surprised to see Loco Moco offered, so I went with my Hawaiian favorite. Loco Moco is usually two hamburger patties served on two scoops of rice with dark brown gravy over everything and two fried eggs on top. The lily's version is a bit smaller, everything being singles but none the less hitting its mark for breakfast, I just wish the gravy was homemade instead of out of a can. Went to the café for the first time. Observed that there was one server so service was slow. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict and per the menu, it's stated hollandaise sauce. When my husband received the eggs Benedict he realized that nacho cheese was poured on the top as the sauce instead of hollandaise sauce. Avoid ordering the eggs Benedict unless you want nacho cheese sauce on it. read more

Tonight was my first time here. The pastrami was great. The flavor was excellent. The waiter was very nice. The grilled salmon was very good says my husband. He really liked it. Overall I think this place is great. We will definitely return here. read more

We eat there probably two or three times a week. Love the singing and general positive atmosphere. We have never had a meal that was not excellent. Recommend you try this place when you want old time service and caring. read more

My experience here was rather good. I ordered the half tilapia sandwich, side salad, and iced tea. The bread was slightly toasted, which was great. The tilapia wasn't dry, nor was it very moist. The salad was nice and light, and the iced tea was refreshing. Service was great, and prices were reasonable. Will come back soon. read more

Average food! Rude service! One time I ordered eggs that were not cooked properly, and I sent them back. Well, she had the eggs prepared correctly, but charged me for a side of eggs plus the meal I already paid for. When I told her that she is charging me extra for the eggs I sent back, she replied; "There was nothing wrong with those eggs". You see, I was a regular every Friday. And the regulars she always gives free cut up fruit too. Once I sent the eggs back, I was off her list to receive fruit, and every time I went back in there, she made me wait until she served everyone else. Therefore, I stopped going. read more

why do you get 5 stars, you cafe? why? because... 1. lily is sweet and smiles and is always happy and is so caring and she SINGS 2. there's LOTS of old people here. the happy type. not the old, senile ones. 3. its always bustling but in a good way. you feel ALIVE 4. the food is FRESH. no matter what you say, their food has the freshest ingredients. hands down. 5. the servers are so sweet. SO sweet. so im reading some of the complaints. i understand that it can come off as "dirty" and whatever... but you're in a cafe at a bowling alley. if you're going to go somewhere to eat, figure out where the hell you are first. you're not in downtown LA paying $$$$ for some food. oh. thats all. i love here. going back. in the mornings... where there are cute grandmas and grandpas who just love to sit, eat, and enjoy life. win. read more

On our way to a job site looking to stop for a quick bite. I am not familiar with the area so I looked up breakfast restaurants on Yelp and came across Lily's Cafe. Even though it has a big sing from the street view it's kind of hidden. Don't let the small place fool you. The employees are super friendly and efficient. I drink black coffee, yup!, no sugar no cream. So I can usually tell the quality of the place by how good the coffee is. This place did not disappoint. The coffee was hot with a smooth flavor. I order the MAX I (2pancakes, 2eggs, 2bacon and 2sausage). My food was just right! Great pancakes! I found my new favorite place for breakfast! read more

Lily is awesome. She actually walks around singing while she's waiting tables. Omelets are great and portions are generous. Lily even gave us some fruit to eat on the house while we were waiting for our food. Service like this just doesn't exist anymore.
