So, when I first walked in, I wasnt too sure I was going to like the place. As soon as I sat down three members of the staff came by one after another and asked if we were ready to order. Like, come on, let me look at the menus first. In addition, they are really small, crowded, and do not have their own bathroom, instead sharing it with the bowling alley. Okay so that's the bad side, however, I quickly fell in love with the place. They are small but have lots of seating and make the most of it, and plus they're really cozy. They have amazingly delicious food, and their drinks are okay too. The staff is extremely friendly! In all honesty, I cant imagine that I won't be back. How does this place get good reviews?? I've been wanting to try it for a while because so many seem to like it. The coffee was so awful I couldn't even drink it, my friend's ice tea was so bad he couldn't drink it, and it took 45 minutes to get most of our mediocre breakfast and another few minutes to get my pancakes (which were good). Nothing from our server to say it would be ready soon, or sorry for the delay ... etc. We overheard people at other tables who were frustrated with the wait time and saying they wouldn't go back. I am exploring new areas since my move. I love weekend breakfast. I starting back my traditions and found this local gem in the rough. Its in front of Valencia bowling alley. This place was pack and I got there late before noon. When I go to breakfast 9/1030. Anyways its a small place some seating outside. Has a good menu the prices was how I like them. Plenty of parking since its in a small plaza. My order was the Loco Moco a Hawaiian breakfast dish that was very good. The tea was refreshing which I usually get a coffee. If you live in the upper SFV check its a must if your a foodie like me. Now the service was good very helpful. I will be back to try other things on their menu for sure. Went to Lily's for lunch and we ordered a burger and a BLT. Both were good, quality ingredients with all the fixings. Toasted bun, trimmed tomatoes, and the veggie appetizer plate was free with ranch dip. Great service by Lily herself! Small business and great service. Give it a try for great breakfast and lunch. We've been coming here for a few times now and we love it here! Yes the restaurant it quite outdated and needs a touch up, but we love the homie and hospitable environment. Lily's singing is so pleasant and she really makes you feel welcomed. The food is also quite affordable and great value in my opinion. First of all, I never write reviews. This is how impressed me & my family were. We just stopped here for breakfast as we were headed back home to the Central Valley. I googled looking for a restaurant that offered good food for a good price. Found this little gem. It's a restaurant adjacent to the bowling alley. Nice homey feeling with all the plants they have as decor. We had the pleasure of being serviced by the owner Lily. Food was great! Prices were fair. The experience was priceless. I've been living around the Santa Clarita Valley for almost 20 years and I've never been to this little cafe! Very cozy atmosphere and every table has a small vase of fresh flowers. Even the stained glass lamps are a nice touch. The mozzarella sticks come with a delicious homemade beef marinara sauce and the pancakes were awesome. (Better pancakes than some chain breakfast restaurants in this town!) Lily was great and as we ate, I watched her talk to all of her regulars and ask them how they were. Owner Lily is very welcoming, other diners appeared to be "regulars" at this quaint place on the bowling alley premises. After a great hike, you would love to get your grub on, so we went to a few places, but seating for 14 can be complicated, hence, this was another yelp option. We went to enjoy a great breakfast to replace the calories we lost. Well, it wassss ok. They had a number of omelets and different breakfast opportunities that many of u took advantage of. There was one common problem we ran into, and that was dry food. It took a ton of salsa to spice our food up, due to the fact it was dry. It's 10am on a Sunday morning and my husband and I need a place to bring my mother for breakfast. It's raining and Egg Plantation and Saugus Cafe are packed. Based on the high yelp-ituded of Lily's, we give it a shot. The bowling-alley location is laughable, but I've eaten in stranger places. The walls are paneled with mirrors and we got a corner booth- we more or less got to watch ourselves eat the whole time. Ha! We're seated quickly, but over served. We've been looking at the menu for 30 seconds and the waiter asks us if we' re ready to order. We tell him we need more time; he comes back 90 seconds later. We still need more time! 60 seconds later he is back and FINE! I'll just have the turkey sandwich. Sheesh- I know it's the Sunday morning bustle and you want to squeeze in as many customers as possible, but give me a break. The coffee is bad. Straight up bad. The food is a solid "meh" with the hasbrowns saving an overall sub-par meal. The huevos rancheros were incredibly disappointing and served with white rice (?). What a great find. First time here but everyone else seemed like long time customers. I can see why. If I lived closer this would be a regular place for me. Best fruit bowl I have ever had- and did not even know it came with my meal. The lox were fresh. All I missed on my bagel and lox were the capers. My husband had the loco moco. He would have liked garlic with it but also cleaned his plate. Lily has a beautiful singing voice and the entertainment is free. The food is fresh and very tasty. Apparently, restaurants in Newhall on a Sunday morning that had seating for a large group was just about mission impossible, and after hiking around downtown Newhall trying three other places, we settled on Lily's cafe. As far as providing a simple, down home diner feel, this place did it. After a good hike and walking around the city on our culinary quest, I was definitely looking forward to simple, good tasting diner food to quell the cravings. Unfortunately, the food here was fairly bland, but thankfully they had home made salsa, and many of us in the group doused our food with it to garner some flavor back into the meal. I had the corned beef omlette with hash browns. The description said a three-egg omlette, but looking at the size of it, it looked more like one to two at most. Thankfully the hash browns were done crispy, but several others at the table mentioned getting somewhat limp hash browns when they also asked for crispy cooked hash. Not quite what I had hoped for, for the just about $7 dollar plate, but I guess sometimes, it is what it is. I have to say the waitress was very good at keeping all our needs and orders taken care of. She was very efficient despite the bustling crowd in the diner, and moved along at a blistering pace, gravitating from each of our tables since the group was split into two separate ones due to lack of space. While not the best food to be had, I guess it was good we were at least able to find a place that could fit our group in. read more

Hidden gem in the bowling alley that is popular with the old folks. But, they have a moco loco and where else in the SCV can you get that for breakfast? I adore Lily's and Lily herself! I have frequented her diner for years and I don't even have to place my order anymore. Lily takes one look at me and knows what I want. The tobasco is brought to the table before I can ask and the coffee is hot and flowing. The food always comes out fast, fresh, and made to order. If you're lucky, you'll be accompanied by Lily's singing as she makes the rounds with the customers. Having only eaten breakfast here, I can't comment on the lunches however I've heard great things about the grilled chicken breast and the taco salad. May 15th 2008 Came here because of the reviews and the recommendation from Lisa. This is a very interesting place, as the other reviews stated very plain and caring. This is the kind of diner I like to come into, nothing fancy just knowing that good food and service awaits. We came in right at lunch time and almost all the booths were taken. First thing I noticed was that me and my wife were the youngest patrons in the place (and we are around the age of 35 to 40) If you have ever been to Green Valley Arizona you will know how we felt. With that aside, we were greeted right away. The waiter Ellie was really nice. He was, no I take that back, He IS the most professional waiter I have seen in Santa Clarita to date. I ordered the Pastrami Sandwich ($6.45) and a side order of Onion Rings ($3.75) The sandwich was "Ok", liked the pastrami, but didnt care for the bread. However I loved the Onion Rings, they were perfectly cooked. Think this place may have the best Onion Rings in town. At the moment this place is a 3 star for me and I think that I will go back again to try out the Breakfast menu. I am sure that this place will earn a 4 star from me because the service is great, I just need to order something that I will like. read more

Who knew there could be an excellent diner next to an old bowling joint in Newhall? I came in here in the middle of watching my son and his friends bowl b/c I was hungry. Initial thoughts were - oh my gosh this diner is in a time warp or something - no wonder they need to be attached to a bowling joint to get business! I was wrong in a major way. Ordered a club sandwich and it was the best! Real oven roasted turkey (not processed), fresh lettuce and tomato, crisp bacon with mayo thinly spread over toasted wheat toast. Great, crispy, tasty fries too! Doesn't get better than that! So, went back today for lunch with my boys (no bowling - just lunch). My youngest had the cheeseburger (delicious according to him). My oldest had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich (delicious according to him) and I had the club again. So very yummy. Also, while you are waiting for your food, they bring out a small veggy platter with carrots, celery, pickle, radish and cucumbers with dip! Also, watermelons! Odd, but good and tasty! Fresh flowers on your table - thought they were fake at first, but then upon closer examination, realized they were in water and were real! Nice. If Lily is there, she will sing throughout the diner - you can't miss her singing. Everyone here is very happy and helpful. Next time I am going to try their spaghetti - looks good and was popular. Also, eyed the chicken noodle soup as it passed by us to another table - looked delicious with huge chunks of chicken and really, wide noodles. I noticed a lot of locals and regulars b/c the staff knew everyone by name. My friend told me her dad eats here every week. They even have good, old-fashioned liver steak and onions. I'm not a fan of liver, but apparently it is very good if this is your thing. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes. 50's type diner, one waitress, with food runners (owners). The first thing I noticed when my biscuits and gravy arrived was that the biscuits had been 'toasted' on the grill, and tasted of stale oil. The gravy was nothing more than a roo that the cook failed to make with ground sausage and the drippings. This was an instant fail. The wifes eggs were luke warm but the hot cakes perfect and hot. The waitress was super great and works the soles of her shoes off. Unfortunately we will not make a repeat performance. Making poor gravy is not an option, and never heat up biscuits on a oily grill top. read more

Diner food that was at the right price point with real people working. The staff was nice and the owner (?) was singing as she helped people in the dining area. The Good: It's in a shopping center so there is plenty of parking and it's accessible. There's a lot of people and plenty of seating plus it's lively. The food was great! We had Max II breakfast (eggs, sausage, has browns). Hashbrowns were perfectly crisp and delicious. Food was served in a timely manner and the waiter and bus boy kept checking in with us to make sure our table of 5 was taken care of. Nice! The Bad: Coffee is horrible!!! I think I'd rather suck on the fumes coming out of my car exhaust then have that coffee again. I noticed that they had Folger's Coffee out by the coffee maker so I don't think it was the brand, but rather the machine they used. If the coffee was burnt, or was too watery I would understand, but this was just bad coffee. They need to replace the filter, and perhaps wash out the unit. My next gripe is a small one, but certainly a customer service issue. I came in with my kids and my 8 year old quickly grabbed a bag of Doritos they were selling at the counter and the lady "Lily" was too quick to sternly state NO! That was not cool! As a parent, I want to say that I was right next to my son and would have responded to anything he wanted to purchase, as a result of that comment without any reservation to see how the Dad would handle the KID, I realized that she was the kid and I simply sat down and ordered. I was basically too hungry to go anywhere else by that point. The UGLY: I was an out of town'er, and I understand that I may not get the best service as a local. I get that! But with YELP we are now ALL Locals. Businesses, make sure that you treat all your customers well. The locals will give you loyalty, referals, and great YELP reviews. The out of town'ers, will state their experience, good or bad, and everyone will read the unbiased truth.
