A hidden true gem in the Oakland area! Every time I visit the bay I make sure to stop by Limon- they have delicious drinks, appetizers and entrees and it always hits the spot. I usually order empanadas to start off with something quick- the chicken and the beef are my favorite. For shareable entrees you can't go wrong with their juicy pollo a la brasa (rotisserie chicken) which comes with two side options- I always pick the fries and the garlic green beans. I love dipping everything in their yellow mustard sauce and I'm not even a big mustard person! The lomo saltado is pretty up there for me too and recently I tried the anticuchos de pollo which are chicken skewers and these were generous- they also came with various sauces, like aji verde and the yellow mustard sauce. I recently tried the cauliflower and this definitely wowed me. The portions are amazing and everything can be ordered family style for everyone to enjoy, and the price point is great. I used to eat at Limón in SF all the time, at both the Mission location and the food truck. I loved eating there and the food was always great. I've eaten at this Oakland location a couple times now and I'm not so impressed with the food. Especially given the price. We had oysters, which were amazing and fresh. No complaints there. We also had the sampler ceviche. The fish was fresh and the flavors were fine. Nothing blew me away, but it was still good. We've also had the Arroz Con Mariscos, and all the seafood was fresh. That one was my favorite. We also had the Coliflor Picante, which had a nice crisp to it, but nothing spectacular. Then we ordered the Lomo Saltado. The rice was undercooked, and the beef overcooked. I couldn't really eat the rice, and the beef was hard to cut with a knife and chew. Apart from that dish, I enjoyed the food, just not sure it's worth the prices. No lie the music was so good we wanted to get up and start dancing right there! All our food was delicious no complaints except I realized I don't like pork belly but that's no fault of theirs. I was hoping to be super impressed at Limón, while the appetizers started out strong-ish, the main we ordered was not great. We ordered the calamari ceviche, fried plantains and the braised short ribs, it was enough food for 2 people. I thought the ceviche was fresh and the plantains had this yuzu sauce on it that made it pretty unique. The short ribs we ordered tho, was super disappointing, the mash potatoes was super salty and the meat itself was super dry that even the gravy couldn't save it. I've heard great things about Limon but the service was lacking on Xmas eve. Made reservations via Yelp for a party of 6 at 5:30pm. Arrived promptly and was informed that the kitchen closes at 6pm and we had to get our order in ASAP and can't order again after 6pm. A little shocked as they should have called me to let me know that but anyway since it was Xmas Eve, it made sense that they would want to close early and get home to their families. We got our orders in. Our food came out immediately without our waters. Everything tasted good and no complaints really. Chicken was flavorful and extremely tender. Empanadas were good. Kale salad could use more massaging. So at 6:03pm, and we saw a table get seated. ODD. Thought they closed at 6pm?!? Think another table got seated also. Halfway into my salad, I asked for more dressing for my salad and the tea that the server forgot. Overall, food and drinks were good but just not pleased with our air headed server that kept talking to other staff and forgetting to do her job. Oh and, management needs to figure out how to advertise that they will be closed whether adjusting to the Yelp hours or calling the guest. Wanted to try something new for date night. I found this gem of a restaurant tucked away in the heart of Oakland. We were seated near a window and enjoyed the scenery while we sipped on well crafted cocktails recommended by our waiter. Everything was delicious! Came here for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. Everything was had was delicious and the service was so attentive and fast!! We started off with the Ceviche limon and it was so good! The flavors made my taste buds dance as it had the perfect amount of acidity and tanginess. It was my personal favorite dish of the night. The fried calamari went well with the other seafood because it gave a good break with the difference in textures. We also got some drinks, I had the lychee melon and my partner had the festejo. Both were refreshing and delicious- especially since I'm not a big alcohol drinker but these were good! The ambiance is very nice when you walk in. We were greeted immediately and they were able to seat a table of 7 on a Saturday with no reservations. We went about 5pm so right before the dinner rush. Parking garage right across the street was free because machine was done so that was a plus. Otherwise street parking is a little hard to come by as we circled about 3-4 times before we decided to enter the garage. The food was phenomenal and very tasty but I did dock a star because they brought the food out with no idea whose dish was whose and because this was our first time, we had to continuously ask which dish they dropped off to make sure it went to the right person. You can't do that with a full table of hungry people. I heard this chain is in other locations like Burlingame so I will for sure try those places out as well. I used to go to the location in the Mission, and was very happy when they opened a spot in Oakland. Service was great, I was there for lunch on a Wednesday so it wasn't that busy. I ordered the Cadillac Margarita, it was strong and delicious. For my main I ordered the arroz con mariscos, which is usually always amazing. On this particular day there was way too much calamari and the clams were overcooked. The mussels and fish were excellent and the rice was perfect. Dessert was the tres leches cake, and let me tell you, I should have started with that. Words can't describe how good their tres leches cake is, it just melts in your mouth. Be careful where you park, I've seen cars get broken into, literally right next to the restaurant. I highly recommend taking an Uber to the restaurant and leaving your car home. read more

Parking is a little tricky since it's close to downtown but if you're lucky you can snag some street parking! Also parking is free after 6p. So obviously Limon yelped well, and we had recently done Peruvian with Rotisserie Chicken outside of the US in Latin America so we were eager to relive the experience. Upon pulling up in the uber I knew we were gonna score. Sleek, modern, hustling yet not packed, and only an hour after opening, the colors, the bar, everything was in its place. we were greeted and offered water's, and honestly we were a bit confused as we scoured the menu, but soon figured it out. we ordered Sangrias, and honestly this would have been a 5 star but our waiter actually forgot our drinks and never brought them at all as he was slightly distracted it seemed. Once they saw us snapping photos of the food that changed course and every detail was attended too. unfortunately our sangria came well after our food, as I had to actually ask another waiter for them who quickly brought them out and saw us taking pics asking us if everything was alright, and ohh was it. other than the delay on those drinks, I have to say that is some of the very best rotisserie chicken I've ever had. it was delicious and we devoured it, the yucca fries, and green beans, flavors, sauces... wow. the pics speak for themselves. This was my first time tasting Peruvian food and I am a fan! I hosted Sunday dinner at Limon and it did not disappoint. Customer Service: I made a reservation for 8 and do to unforeseen circumstances we were running late. I received a courtesy call from a restaurant attendant to make sure we were still coming before giving up our table. TALK ABOUT SERVICE!!! Once we were there and seated Michelle took care of us. She was very familiar with the menu, made great suggestions, patient (we were at table of 8), and personable. She made our first time experience a really good one. Thank you for that Michelle. Ambiance: I love how open and bright the place is. The bar looks amazing and sits right in the middle of the restaurant. The tables were placed far enough apart not to bump anyone, but close enough to hear the next person's business. That's probably the only thing I'd change - give the tables just a little more space. They have outdoor seating with umbrellas as well for smaller parties. And last and just as important, the women's bathroom wads very clean and well stocked. Food and Drinks: Let me tell you something, get the La Pasion. It was recommended by Michelle and it was so good we ordered about 5 more. Lol. It has the perfect amount of tequila and juice. It was sweet (I liked that), but delicious and it packed a punch. I had to stop at two. I ordered the chicken and vegetable empanadas and my goodness, they are literally breaded goodness. The chicken was different. I've never tasted anything like that in my life. I had to place another order for the chicken ones. I also had the Saltado De Pollo and it was different, but really good. I added shrimp to my order. I was a little caught off guard at the fry placement, but it worked out. My brother ordered the Churrasco steak and that was amazing. Juicy, cooked perfectly, and just delicious. We also had the Chocolate Bandido and I highly recommend it. It tasted like a rich cholate muffin accompanied with ice cream, whipped cream and I think that was caramel sauce. It was so good. Price: $580 for 8 people sound amazing to me. We made sure to give her a wonderful tip. Of course there was gratuity for our party size, a tax here and a tax there, but it was well worth it for the food and the service. I've tried a few of their different ceviches, the chicken, the yuca, the salad, the salmon, and everything is delicious! The only thing I didn't like was the chicken chicharron, which was dry. Very disappointed by this place. I needed to confirm whether the dairy and eggs (used in mayo/aioli) were pasteurized due to a dietary restriction (a very common one for pregnancy). The server checked with the chef and each time came and said that it's not pasteurized. How is it legal or safe to serve unpasteurized dairy in the US? I ended up just getting the chicken and waffles without any sauce. When I asked for either ketchup or mustard, the server said they were out of both!! One of the most miserable and exclusionary dining experiences of my life. Never coming back here. Though just to be fair - the non pregnant people liked their food. Delicious. For some people in my party, dishes were a bit overly salted, but beyond that, really good food and service.

We got the empanada sampler to start - one of each empanada, these were all very good. I'm usually not a fan of the cheese, but would order all of them again. We also got drinks. They were cute, but not particularly stand-out (but maybe we were all too focused on the food). I had the pulpo, and my friends got a salmon & chicken dish (unfortunately I can't remember their names) and the yuca fries. From what I could see, everyone cleaned their plates and really enjoyed their meals. The pulpo was super tasty - I was expecting a chewier texture, but it was very tender! I only wish I had ordered some more food (or that it had come with some rice or something) because while I didn't leave hungry, I feel like a little more volume would have left me more satisfied with my meal. Limón Oakland is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. My husband and I dine here at least once a week (if not more often). The staff are warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is fun and energetic. There is not a bad dish on the menu. We always start with one of the ceviches, which are delicious and generously portioned. Mixto Rocoto is our favorite, followed by Ceviche Limon, and they are even better with a side of taro chips. The small plates are great for sharing. If you enjoy fried calamari, definitely try the fantastic Jalea. We also frequently get the Antichuchos de Pollo (amazing chicken skewers) and Chanchito a la Diabla (pork belly bites). Limón has an extensive drink menu, but we always order one of the Pisco Sours, frothy and delicious. When the room is full of happy people it does tend to get very loud (as some reviews have mentioned). If that's a problem, we recommend visiting for lunch for a quieter experience. read more

Limón is an upscale restaurant in the outskirts of Lake Merritt / Downtown Oakland. When you walk in, you feel like you are in a classy restaurant, and their service matches to what you would expect. They are attentive to your needs when you are greeted and seated. Now, for the food, the star of the restaurant is the empanadas. They texture was on point, and the fillings were delicious. You could get full on these alone as a sampler comes with 4, or you can just order one dish which comes with 2. I was excited to order the Arroz Con Pollo, but it was really salty. The rice part was over seasoned and plastered with sauce. The chicken itself was great. We also were disappointed in the vegetarian options. We chose this place since our party had some vegetarian folks, and Yelp recommended Limón. When we sat, we were recommended the Lomo Saltado but vegetarian style. I'm happy they opened up a new location in the East Bay (in addition to the Walnut Creek branch). Great for all y'all who love Limon without having to go to SF or to Contra Costa County. Great quality of SF Limon, but at the comfort of uptown Oakland. Came here twice already, and ordered my usual faves: the rotisserie chicken (pollo a la brasa) and the ceviche trio. Most recently, I also had the lomo saltado and the jalea, which were also very good (and comparable to those at the SF Limon branches). My go-to drinks are either the Maracuya sour or the Lychee sour (made with pisco) - both of which are quite strong. You definitely get a good bang for the buck. For those of y'all who are parking - it can be quite challenging, especially when it's during a busy time like weekend brunch time or evening dinner time. Parking is quite limited (most spots are metered), so you may need to circle around until you find a place. Metered parking is free after 6pm. My friends who I brought here haven't had Peruvian food much in the past, but enjoyed the food and drinks at Limon.
