We were in the neighborhood and searched for a buffet. Lim's was the nearest buffet. We stopped in and we were greeted. You pay first. They provided gloves. It was clean and quiet. Small buffet selection but the food was good. The only thing I had a problem with is the people that were serving behind the line didn't have gloves while handling food. There was a cashier that didn't change her gloves after cashiering, cleaning, and getting to go orders filled. Before we left I got a tea to go and it hit the spot. read more

Been customer for decades, food has been mostly consistant & overall good. That was until after remodeling. Lots of changes, Nicer updated kitchen and dining area along with modest higher prices. You pay ahead now which is fine, but while paying the cashier was reassuring us that its all the same food as before...which now made us wonder if that was in response to multiple negative feedback comments they were receiving of changes made... Once we got to line we found that selection dropped quite a bit, with no trays or waitress to get drinks. China plates were replaced with small styrofoam plates, and metal utensils replaced with plastic. We were disappointed that the good egg rolls they had before, were replaced with what tasted like a cheap crappy tasteless frozen spring roll variety. Why??? The good chow mein they had before, was replaced and appears they added lots of spagetti making it drier, while taking away much of the vegetables & seasonings, same happen with the fried rice. Again Why??? Broccoli and ? was MISSING pretty much everything else and void of the meat. What's the point? Constantly out of multiple items leaving you wait or go without. Everything else lost seasonings and flavor. Overall we found it to be cheapen, lower quality, and tasteless with a couple exceptions. I can't imagine this being the new business plan but rather new reopening issues to resolve. I can only imagine we're in good company with this disappointment. We won't come back for a while until we see they have corrected and rethought hopefully all the wrong they reopened with, giving them a chance given their past, but that's it. This Chinese buffet was much better than I had expected. Nine of us went to the Buffet and the wait was about 10 minutes. The food, generally speaking, was fairly fresh, and there was a big selection. For a Chinese all-you-can-eat restaurant, it was worth the price. The Mongolian barbecue was OK for an American Chinese restaurant. I lived in Taiwan for 33 years. I think I liked the pork ribs the most. They were fresh and juicy. I am on a non-plant, no-carb, no sugar diet and there was plenty of a selection for me to eat!!! read more

Came to this place with little to no expectations. The outside almost made me want to go back into the car and speed off but I thought screw it im already there, I walked in and saw they had such a small selection so I was disappointed. HOWEVER, that disappointment disappeared as soon as I took a bite. I'm new-ish to the deer valley area and I've been trying multiple Chinese spots but none of them hit the spot quite like this place. If you like Chinese food, this is a little hidden gem. Walking in, it's simple and small, but the love they put into the food is huge. The soups taste home made and are so flavorful. All the meats that are friend are perfect, juicy and tasty. The price is reasonable for a buffet. They put a lot of attention into the food. I observed an older employee or owner directing a young employee on how to recenter the food and wipe the buffet after each set of customers. It was cool that he was speaking Spanish to her. If you haven't been here yet then you are missing out in the greatest Chinese food in the valley. The sesame chicken is beyond words, it's like mini bites of heavenly made chicken and waffles. The all you can eat buffet price is fantastic, the selection is small but the quality shines because of this. Shrimp are included in the buffet and they are freshwater caught. I'm happy to say Lim's buffet is open again following the lockdowns. Had a good lunch today with all of my old favorites that taste just like they used to. The buffet choices are rather limited but the prices reasonably reflect that limitation. However, the food choices they do have are very good as is the service. My main criteria for service at a buffet is that drinks are refilled and used plates removed in a timely manner. I've been here several times since I moved to the area and will be back again and again! Update: I have lowered my review from 4 stars to 3 stars. I rarely eat shrimp but tried the peel and eat at a recent visit. I was shocked to find the shrimp had not been deveined. Tried a couple of more and the same thing. Amazing food!!! I've been coming here for probably 10 years and it truly is delicious. The employees are so friendly and each time I come I am never disappointed. I had high hopes for this place seeing the photos, but it underwhelmed. No spicy options, all sweet. Even the hot and sour soup wasn't spicy. A through back to the little all you can eat places I went to as a kid. They have a small selection maybe ten items. The stands outside and why they get 5 stars is their French fries and chicken wings. The fries are so.e of the best I have had crispy on the outside and soft almost like mashed potatoes on the inside. I usually don't get the fries or wings but I wish I started off with them. The wings were as good or better than most bar wings. The rest of the food is good the same you get at most buffets. The service was also good. I have been eating at Lim's my whole life. It still tastes exactly the same and yes, it's grungy looking inside and out but the food is delicious. My favorite dish is the beef squash. The fried fish on Friday is the best as well. read more

Lim's Chinese Boofay is a throwback china boofay. If you want seafood and spring rolls and vegetables and no MSG, you'd better head elsewhere. If you remember going to a china boofay in 1979, back when nobody knew or cared that Chinese people never eat this stuff, and you loved the kitschy decor and salty fried food, then Lim's is your place. I'll bet that the recipes and decor are the same as they've been for the last 30 years. You've got your requisite fried rice, lo mein, beef/broccoli, sesame chicken, sweet&sour pork, egg foo young, eggrolls, fried chicken, and maybe a couple of other items beyond that. Everything was cooked not so bad as far as the consistency on the Crispy-Greasy Spectrum, but had so much msg that my mouth literally had a buzzing feel when I left. Not a taste, a FEELING, left over from the monosodium glutamate infused cuisine. Blech. The Discard Pile was actually tiny for the sesame chicken, but instead of honey it was flavored with syrup--cheapass imitaion ''maple'' corn syrup. Still, I must admit it was lean chunks of white meat chicken, and was my favorite if I had to pick a poison. S&S pork looked lean, with large chunks of nonfatty meat, but the insides were a little gristly, and each bite in had about 20% come back out onto the Discard Pile. Seems like they tried to keep it lean, though. In the entire boofay table, there was hardly any color from veggies. All I found was some icebertg lettuce and coleslaw in the cold section, plus brocolli in the beef&broc, carrots and onions in the S&S, and some white cabbage and a few onion pieces in the lo mein. That's about it. Oh, the egg rolls had cabbage inside, too, and Are the old school thick skinned, bubbly deep fried and mushy, not the spring roll thin skinned crispy kind. Lim's had some decent flavors and I created a small Discard Pile, so could be a 3Star boofay by getting rid of the msg, using honey instead of syrup on the chicken, and adding a bunch more veggies into the mix. $6.25 lunch ($1.50 more for a soda) was not worth it, no matter how much volume you shove in. Still buzzing from the weird msg high. No sir, I don't like it. read more

If you're a pot-smoker, then you can relate to this. Even if you don't smoke pot you'll still relate. You're hungry. No, you're starving. A sudden onset of the munchies so pronounced, you're willing to eat almost anything. You pour through the fridge searching for anything, but all you can find are some leftovers from weeks ago, whose vintage looks now resemble a science experiment. You know you'll hate yourself later, but God help you...you've got to eat something. Anything. In your shark-like eating frenzy, you microwave the orange colored shit, setting the timer for double the time you normally would, reasoning how the extreme heat should kill off any new strains of life-threatening diseases. You go to sleep afterward, and later awaken to the feeling you've just done something horribly wrong. If you've ever experienced that feeling. That cathartic moment when you ask yourself; "why did I just do that?" You'll experience it at least one more time if you eat here. There's another reason I don't like this place. The server, upon noticing how my plate resembled a chicken-bone graveyard of sorts, unceremoniously and very swiftly demanded I eat 'moh vegtubul'. I don't care for places where the server scolds me like my mother used to. If I want to dredge up those memories, I'll go to a shrink, not Lims. read more

BARF BARF BARF Quite possibly the grossest food I have ever eaten. The chicken lo mien was made with spam-ish meat product-- Does that make is Spamish meat product lo mien? I ended up eating just white rice and soy sauce with egg rolls--- can't mess up fried egg rolls right? I did have to salt them though, they were pretty taste-less. The ambiance is less than desirable as well, our plates never got cleared and the amount of unshowered people sitting near me made me want to go home and take a hot bath with all the soap in the world.
