Highlights: DOG FRIENDLY, people, and the tour and tasting is FREE. The barrel room is stunning, smells amazing, and is perfectly, symmetrically organized, great for photos. The main room is like a cross between a 19th Century hunting lodge / library, so cozy and familiar and rustic with lots of plush furniture and old-timey photos. My mom lives in Litchfield and this place has been on my bucket list of places to visit during one of my trips back home to CT. I had the pleasure of going this weekend and it was absolutely amazing. I love that the tours are free, that they encourage safe driving, and they are not insulted if you don't try everything they pour you (or only a little of what they pour) afterwards at the tasting. I had a ton of questions for them and Jack was patient and answered every single one. Not only are they a local distillery, but they locally source everything as well! The corn is from Sharon, CT, the oak barrels are custom-charred from a supplier in Long Island, and they really take pride in the process and the craft of their signature product. They specifically DO NOT distill rum or tequila because the products, like sugarcane and agave, are not local to Connecticut. Super impressive. I love the integrity, thought, and care of this place. I am a huge gin gal (aka an old man at hear), and their gin is floral and spicy, made with juniper berries, of course, but also with orange and grapefruit peel. Soooo yummy. I particularly loved their 10 year aged bourbon, the maple bourbon, the vodka, and the gin. Can't wait to go back and stock up on some great bottles. I could easily spend so much money there. They also have neat gifts, like hoodies, whiskey glasses, and gift boxes. Connecticut is such a special place, and I'm so proud to have a spot like this open up, homegrown CT pride, y'all. read more

Pete (one of three brothers who own distillery) was super informative on how their products are made. You can go online and make touring reservation. By law, you can only have 2 Oz of liquor but it's all for free!!! Their maple syrup is to die for!! I highly suggest taking a tour before they start charging for it. Signed up for a tour for two. No one else was there when our tour started, so we had a private tour that lasted about a half hour. We were able to taste a cask strength sample, directly out of the barrel. When our tour was over we were able to taste 6 varieties of liquors that they've brewed. The owner was very friendly and more than happy to answer all of my questions. I'd recommend this place if you have an hour or so to kill! read more

This was a great local distillery in Litchfield. It's slightly off the beaten path, but well worth the drive. The building stands out with the distinct brick red and black trimming. There is plenty of parking for multiple cars. The facility prefers you make your reservation in advance online or call to reserve a spot. The tour itself is free. Tours start promptly and last roughly about an hour. The owners of the facility are very thorough and friendly and explain everything. They answer any and all questions you may have. During the tour you are taken to where the magic happens and are explained the detailed process of how everything works. When In the barrel room, you get to try some cask strength bourbon, which definitely tickles the back of the throat. Just before the end of the tour, you are taken back to where you started and get to do a tasting. Total amount of alcohols adds up to about two shots. The owners definitely have a heavy hand when it comes to pouring your samples. After the tour, there is a small area where you can purchase bottles or souvenirs to take home. Overall, this place was great and I highly recommend if you're looking for something to do. read more

On a sunny afternoon in January, I took a tour of the Litchfield Distillery. My tour guide was Dave, one of the owners. The tour is quite thorough and informative, ranging from the locally-sourced grains they use, to the fermentation and distillation processes, to the details of barrel aging their bourbon. Dave answered each of my questions in a friendly and knowledgeable manner. At the end of the tour, I was treated to a tasting, sampling several award-winning bourbons, vodka, and even a bourbon-infused maple syrup! We just stopped here on a whim as we had time to kill between attending the CT Wine Festival in Goshen and dinner reservations. Our friends had been here several months ago and thought we might like to check it out. I am writing this review based more on my husband and his friend's experience, as I started out on the tour with them, but I was very hot and returned to wait for them with my friend's wife in the large tasting area. The Distillery is in a large building and is very clean. They do tours every hour and each tour lasts about 1/2 hour. Following the tour you receive a tasting of 5 liquors, 3 bourbons, gin and vodka. Between the five tastings it equals only about one shot of liquor. There is no charge for the tour or tasting! We did give the woman who ran the tour a tip, but it did not appear many others did. My husband and friend enjoyed both the tour and tasting. They have their products for sale, but we did not purchase any, as a little pricey for us. They also encourage visitors to recommend a retail establishment or restaurant to sell/serve their product and if they do on your recommendation within 30 days you will receive a flask or T-Shirt from the Distillery. If you like this type of thing then I would definitely recommend a stop at the Litchfield Distillery if you are in the area. read more

He was very gracious, knowledgeable, and a very warm guy. We can't get over the fantastic "vibs" that surrounds this place. We traveled two and half hours. Well worth the trip. Great day. This was so fun!! We stopped by on the spur of the moment, and we got a personal tour by the owner! We learned a lot about making bourbon, vodka, and gin. We also had a great (and generous) tasting! The only problem was limiting what items we wanted to purchase! We settled on maple bourbon, bourbon maple syrup, a wall tin, and a candle. We will do this again. read more

A gem. We were running behind schedule and arrived at 3:55 PM for a 4PM tour, and started right away. The building looks deceptively small from the outside, but the interior is quite spacious. The barrel room / still room is SPOTLESS. This was my first tour of a distillery, and I enjoyed the faint aroma of Bourbon. I have been on several brewery tours previously, and, well, some parts of the brewing process smell unpleasant. This was refreshingly different. We did not have to wait until the end of the tour for sampling - we were treated to a small sample of 125 proof clear bourbon not quite ready for barreling. Really a lovely dense flavor with a definite "burn" on the finish. We also sampled a 9 year old Bourbon straight from the barrel which was also excellent. Out of the production area and back into the "tasting" area, we were treated to small servings of all three current bottled offerings: 1) in-house distilled gin, which was really very good - similar flavor profile to Bombay Sapphire with a heavy accent on the citrus. 2) double barrel Bourbon (batched from sourced Bourbon) (black wax seal) $75 3) very young in-house distilled bourbon (red wax seal) $40 My favorite was definitely the local distilled Bourbon which was very drinkable neat, lingering finish. The family that owns the distillery also owns Crystal Rock water company. A small splash of Crystal Rock in the bourbon really opened it up. Worthwhile trip! PS: thankfully (?), my girlfriend is not a fan of Bourbon (or Gin).... so...... I got her samples too. The tours and tasting are both free!! read more

Here's the deal... long before all the madness of 2020 I went. I took the tour, I enjoyed the tastings and I left with several things, namely a vodka and maple syrup. It's worth the price! The selection is surprisingly good and they have put serious effort into their craft. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon! Until they do I'd recommend you give Litchfield Distillery a try. Make a mixed drink, pour some on the rocks or treat yourself to syrup over flapjacks at home... So if you're reading this thinking, hey I wonder if I should try it... YES you should. It said they close at 6pm, but we showed up around 5:30pm and still got to be a part of a full tour and tasting! The tasting was free, and the cinnamon whiskey was way better than "that other brand" from the store. I hate gin, but it was so smooth. It didn't have the obnoxious bite of store bought gin. Needless to say, we purchased two bottles (~$90) after the tasting. Regular bottles are $45, but the aged whiskeys are a lot more than that. read more

This is a cool place to visit. My friends and I didn't know what to expect, but we came at the perfect time to join the tour, which was very informative and interesting! After the tour, we got to sample their bourbons, vodkas, and gin, but be forewarned, everything is served neat. We ended up hanging out for a bit before heading out. It doesn't get any better than this. A distillery right in the neighborhood. We drove by one Saturday and were fortunate enough to catch the Open for Tours sign and pulled in. They were in the middle of a tour already, but one of the owners took his time to give us a private tour and tasting. They only make limited types (bourbon and gin) but are well versed and informed on everything related. Their bourbon is pretty solid and their gin offers a unique flavoring, but their aged bourbon is fantastic. It's a great spot to check out and learn about the distillation process while getting to see it step by step. read more

I visited this distillery on a rainy, Sunday afternoon so what better day to go drink? jk, kinda... They produce their own gin, vodka & bourbon whiskey. They give free tastings & a free tour. The tour was actually interesting. The co-owner did our tasting & tour. He was actually interesting to listen to. During the tour you get to try 150 proof grain alcohol which was interesting. Don't shoot it or you'll regret it. Just a small taste on my lips burned a little, but it wasn't a bad taste. It was a great way to spend about an hour on a rainy day. We had a great time here! It's perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon with friends and the drive up to Litchfield is gorgeous! Scheduling a tour is super easy online or if you just happen to be in the area and drop by I believe you can just hop on a tour. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly; everything was completely free and the tasting included 6 bourbons and their new vodka and gin. Also, everything they use is locally sourced and they recycle all of their used barrels etc! Not only is the drive up beautiful the customer service is exceptional. My boyfriend and I drove past their building and called to check their hours. They mentioned they closed about an hour ago but we're courteous enough to ask us how far we were and invited us down. Only excepting to get a bottle and get out they.. they welcomed us with a tour. Went there last winter and loved it so much we brought friends this summer. Worth stopping in again, new flavors - vanilla bourbon and strawberry vodka. A group of us stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for a quick tour and tasting. The tour was very interesting with a quick tutorial on how the whiskey is distilled, barreled and sold. The tour guide (who I think was one of the owners) was very knowledgable. Afterwards you get a quarter ounce tasting of 7 different Liquors that they distill...4 bourbons, a vodka, a flavored vodka, and a gin. Most of them were very good....I left with a bottle of the 10 year aged bourbon which is available for purchase along with all of their other liquors in the gift shop area. Litchfield Distillery is a terrific spot to stop in and visit. It is a CT success story in the Craft Distilling world. There are only a few distilleries in CT. Rules on spirits are more complicated than wine and beer, so taking the tour, tasting the quality, and experiencing the passion is great to see in our state. From a quality standpoint, I love Bourbon and Whiskey and am very impressed. Can't wait to see what's next. read more
