Wild game is a relatively common sight among restaurants in Bozeman. Duck is a dish that sets the excellent apart from the merely good. I have eaten plenty of duck, in all sorts of variations, and the duck on Little Star Diner's menu is arguably the best I have ever eaten. Perfecting duck is certainly not an easy task, but the chefs came as close to this adjective as is possible. I cannot recommend a dish in Bozeman as highly as the Confit Duck here. Really wanted to love this place because the decor is fresh and modern, has a farm to table feel to it and the food looks amazing. We stopped by to get lunch to takeaway since we had our kids with us who would not want to sit still while we ate at the restaurant. They said it would be 10-15 min, then over 30 min later we were still waiting on two mains and two coffees. We had the Cuban sandwich with fries and the Kamut grain bowl; flavors good, fries were soggy. I think I was most disappointed when I received the food, there was no apology, they overcharged me and only then did they inform me that they did not have any forks to eat my meal (only spoons)! Why the fact they do not have utensils wasn't mentioned when I ordered takeaway is unclear. Still would give it another try, but it was a rough first go. read more

Most restaurants in Bozeman are clearly trying to be bougie and yet the quality of the attempted bouge does not hit, not even close... it comes out with uninspired and lackluster food. But Little Star is the rare exception, the ambience is cozy, understated and effortless. The food is exceptional, fresh and deliciously full of flavors that work so well together. Especially the trout fish tacos, I ordered them simply because I love tacos. I was slightly skeptical of the trout but from the very first bite I was quite literally mind blown with how good the taco was. To put it simply, they exceeded my expectations in every way! I only wish little star would bring back brunch... Their breakfast burritos are bomb. And the tater tots that came with the pork the other night was a textural experience that makes me never want to eat a basic tater tot ever again. So my wife and I are vacationing in Bozeman, this is our 7 th and final dinner. First thing you have to do is find it. There is no sign ANYWHERE, on the building with a sign stating Little Star diner. So 548 E Babcock st is the address, look for the numbers. Onto the review. We tried a different restaurant every night and have not had a bad meal. But as it turns it we saved the BEST for last. Little Star diner is fabulous. We sat at the bar and watched them make everything. Everything in here is made from scratch and food is locally sourced. We started with a starter of Brie tart. Then my wife had Gnocchi and I had Ravioli. The different flavors in each dish were amazing. It's hard to do describe except "YUM." We finished with the homemade ice cream with expresso pour over ( Affogato). It was such an amazing meal. We literally had a great meal every night , but it you can only try one, try this one. We actually had another server, who lives here year around here , suggest it. After we asked where they would eat, if it wasn't at their restaurant. And she said Little Star diner. You won't be sorry. They were only serving dinner when we went there. read more

My boyfriend and I had Sunday brunch at Little Star yesterday. First time there. The decor and environment is charming and the food was alright, but we were extremely put off by the poor and downright rude service. It took awhile to be asked if we wanted coffee, etc. When it arrived with a pinch of sugar, I asked in advance for more sugar knowing that I would go through the amount. Our server came close to rolling her eyes when I asked. When my egg sandwich arrived, it was OK, but I wanted to add a little salt and saw no salt or pepper shakers around. It took her nearly 10 minutes to check in with us after the food was delivered and when she did and I asked for salt, she said "sure", but as she walked away, mocked me to the kitchen for asking. I'm sure she didn't realize that my boyfriend was watching, but he was. So that felt awful. His sourdough pancakes were delicious. Drove over from Livingston this morning for an appointment and went to Little Star Diner upon a recommendation from a friend. I had the most amazing breakfast. I ordered the Kamut Grain Bowl...not at all sure what I would be getting! This dish was amazing, the flavors came in layers of goodness, the grains, fried egg, fresh herbs, a wonderful tahini sauce, pickled radish and roasted morel mushrooms. Even typing it, it sounds a bit odd, but it all went together impeccably. Go get one soon because...well the morels won't last forever will they? Great job Little Star, I'll be back. This little place is a gem!! The building is really nice looking and the tables and chairs hand crafted by the owners father are amazing! I had the toast topped with chicken and greens and it was delish! The grilled toast is out of this world. If you are looking for a place to eat that is only in Bozeman try this spot out! It is a little hard to park nearby but certainly worth a quick walk! The owner was so nice and the gals serving us really pleasant. Why did it take me so long to drop in here. I will be back soon. It was ok. My dish was great but everyone else in my party did not enjoy theirs. The bacon was harder than cardboard! Not much of a kids menu and not very kid friendly. The kid menu was also the side dishes. Everything was over complicated, such as the pancakes. Decore was nice, but it was so loud in there and difficult to talk without practically shouting. Parking wasn't great either and with neighboring construction there wasn't too many safe options to cross the street. It was our first time and will be our last. read more

Went here twice, both times had the sausage Benedict. The first time the biscuits were burned a little on the bottom so I tried it again, this time no burning so that was nice. The sausage was a little undercooked but I don't mind that. The Benedict was quite tasty. My breakfast friend had the cabbage-potato-something-frittata. She wasn't impressed and I didn't sample it. Neighboring table had the breakfast burrito and sourdough pancakes, which looked excellent. All in all the food is nice and local, probably not the best in town. The menu isn't extensive either, only a half-dozen breakfast options and about that many lunch options. I'll go back after some time and hope they've reworked their menu. 5-star ratings are uncommon in my reviews. This restaurant had a diverse menu, really interesting combinations. It is one of the VERY RARE restaurants that offers dal on the menu and it is very, very good. Polenta, as other reviewers have mentioned, is crisp and delicious. So almost missed the place if it wasn't for my wife spotting it. Always looking for a one off and this seemed like a good choice. Off Main Street. Was expecting a diner and found a pretty modern, intimate space. Loved the simple custom wooden furniture. Modern and comfortable. If I lived in Bozeman I could find myself here regularly. Showed up a little late but was welcomed and served by a very exhuberant young woman. Mikka? Made some good suggestions on the appetizers. Mushroom toast appy. Wow that works. Not an appetizer I have seen before. Earthy flavours. Fabulous. Boys had the ravioli and it was outstanding. Vegan dish and they are meatatarians. Their rating was 5 stars. Wife had the mushroom tacos. Outstanding. She's not a vegan but could become one after this dish. I had the pork tamales. Just the right spice. We went for dinner with the parents, and absolutely loved the menu. We ordered the mushroom pierogis, and a gnocchi with winter squash and pesto. Fresh, balanced plates that were just the right serving size and very cozy food in winter. The desserts also weren't too sweet, which was great. The sour cream donuts with cherry jam were big, crunchy on the outside, and delicious. This is definitely more of a foodie spot, and very stylish inside, with prices that reflect that. I made a reservation for four at 7:30pm on a weekday. We checked in 10 minutes early and were told that a large party would be leaving shortly and that we could wait outside or near the entrance. I checked in with the hostess several times and was told that our table would be ready shortly. At 8:40pm we left to find another restaurant. Recommendation - To management - Don't take reservations if you can't seat people in a somewhat timely manner. To individuals looking for dinner - go somewhere else. read more

This place is a joke! Went there on a cold March day. Parking was impossible and nobody had shoveled and the ice and snow were impassable. The place has a cold ambiance. Cement, steel and lots of windows which made it feel colder. Plus there is no place to sit away from the front doors opening. Service was terrible! We waited forever to get waited on. There is no lowfat or skim milk for the lattes. Finally got a small $6 almond milk latte! 6oz at the most! No whole wheat toast! No fresh fruit! Everytime we asked for something we were told no! The food we got was just ok. The final bill was a shocker! Extremely expensive breakfast! Never, ever going back! Waited almost an hour for our food are our waitress never checked on us. Ordered a breakfast sausage and what I got was a hamburger patty. Perhaps I read the menu wrong! Boyfriend ordered the falafel. The falafel patties and the sauce is delicious but the cucumber salad left a lot to be desired. The doughnuts are alright. Probably won't order if I return. So dissatisfied-- it was apparent they were short staffed and I wouldn't make this review if our existence was even acknowledged but we were ignored for almost a solid hour. Why we didn't get up and walk out I'm not sure. We ordered coffee and breakfast and didn't get our coffee for over 15 minutes (and wasn't correct order) then our food was a solid hour later. In that time our waiter didn't come check on us once. A simple "hey sorry things are taking a while" would have been nice but no. Nothing. Food was ok, my toast was burnt but maybe that's the new way ppl eat toast? Maple latte was delicious (when it finally got there).
