We decided to take out half of the chilies because of how spicy it was. I stuck to the chicken base. We literally stuffed ourselves. So good. They were already super busy and when we put our name down, there were a bunch of people waiting ahead of us so we ended up waiting around an hour and 15 minutes to get a table. The place wasn't super decorated and a bit crowded. The atmosphere was lively given that it was filled with different parties, dining here. As for the food you're able to make your own sauce, but I wish they had a bit more options with their sauce. Everything was just very salty when it comes to both the sauces and the broth. we ordered one of the broth to get the cow sculpture but they didn't even add it in there. The pork bone broth was decent but again very salty. Everything was salty. I felt like we ate a lot more carbs than we usually do just to balance out the flavor. This is an ayce hotpot, which is totally what you should ask for. It is important to note that not all hotpot here in Flushing is ayce. There are many soup bases available. If you come here by yourself and prefer to have just one soup base, (you need to pay the number of soup bases), you can choose one half soup base and they will put clear water in the other one. I chose the seasonal recommendation coconut chicken soup which is great. The chicken meats are raw when it is served so you need to let it cook for a while, and it also means how fresh it is. The service is great! I can't help to say it is so difficult to get good service at restaurants here, and the server was very nice and attentive to my needs. Came for hot pot on a Sunday, just after noon. It was relatively empty and we (4) were seated immediately. Our waiter asked if it was our first time and explained how to order, the menus were in both Chinese and English so it was easy for our non-Chinese speaking party to navigate. The servers were patient and attentive with us. The place was extremely clean and organized. The AYCE covers most of the menu, but the soup bases are not included in the cost. We got two soup bases, the chongqing spicy beef oil soup base and the sweet/sour tomato both of which we loved. We also got a wide assortment of meats and veggies that were included in the all you can eat price. They have some additional fancy cuts that are outside the AYCE, like wagyu, but the ingredients we picked were delicious, fresh, and good quality. My first hotpot experience and it was a pretty interesting one. I came with a group of friends on a Sunday evening. There was a 30 minute wait, but we ended up waiting longer as the way they did their waitlist system ended up skipping us. We did the All You Can Eat, which was $30 per person. We chose the Three-Flavor Soup Base ($20) and chose Mild Spicy (don't recommend), House Special Pork Ribs Soup Base, and Tomato Soup Base. You can create your own hot pot dipping sauce, as there's a buffet style bar of a variety of items for you to mix and match. There is a great variety of meats, seafood, and veggies to select from. Unfortunately, we found a fly in one of our toppings and didn't discover it until after we boiled it in one of the broths. They were kind enough to offer us a 20% discount for the mishap and a free dessert. Regardless of that, overall it was a pretty decent experience. Definitely can get your moneys worth if you come on an empty stomach and pace yourself. Don't recommend they spicy broth as it's just oiled up broth. We opted for the Pork Rib Soup and Tomato Soup. After, putting in our first order, we went to get sauces, and they have a great variety of combinations. 15 minutes after we out in our order, the waiter comes by and says LAST CALL. At this point, our soup wasn't even boiling yet, and our items just started to arrive, so we didn't even taste anything except the broth. The tomato was way too oily, and the Pork Rib was just okay. We started to panic order since we were on the LAST CALL immediately once we sat. Then, as we were just starting to eat, they completely closed the sauce bar.... Overall, the quality of the items were not too great. The beef and lamb had a lot of brown spots on it and the lamb was the gamiest I've ever tasted at a hotspot place. The vegetables offerings were also very limited. I would say the best thing we ate was the fried dough buns. After a rushed 45 minute AYCE meal, I would not come back again. TLDR: New York location of an international Chongqing hotpot chain. Solid choice. Okay, I'll 'fess up - I came here because the wait at a certain neighbor was just too crazy. That being said, I'm glad I found Liuyishou. I found the service to be lacking slightly, not rude but just okay. Food-wise, the spicy broth is on par with the chains from China who have broken ground here. Probably closer to Spice World in terms of taste where the broth is mostly oil. Standout items was the beef/lamb combo AKA Ring of Meat. Fish fillet was solid and surprisingly, the Mushroom broth. I picked this as my neutral broth to cook vegetables in and by the end of the meal - I was exclusively cooking/sipping this one. The meat i recieved was yellow and definitely a turn off to eat. There was a LOUD screeching sound coming from the hot pot heater and that's not okay especially for anyone who can be triggered by those sounds. It's all you can eat and nets out at about probably around $40/adult (it's around $30/adult but soup is oddly a separate charge, price is cheaper for children). Note: I haven't been to many all-you-can-eat (AYCE) hotpot places in Flushing and don't know if there are actually many of them (there's a few competing places around the vicinity). Our group of 3 had ordered a trio base (haven't seen this before, loved this option...I believe it was $3 extra though). We got the #1 standard, tomato, and pork and herbs bases--all which were great. We were a little sad for pictures that the little mascot soup figure that gets melted wasn't included, we just had a small rectangular block instead; we thought this might be the case because the trio has a much smaller portion of the first soup. While our group only ordered everything at one go and may not have gotten our money's worth, this is an amazing place to come if you're hungry and have a big appetite! All the food seemed fresh, most of which we really enjoyed. There's complimentary iced tea along with water and some desserts and fruits. There is an open sauce bar near the register which had all our needs. We didn't get a lot of service from the staff, but when we did they were nice. They had two restrooms and the one I used seemed fairly clean, the space overall had a good laid back atmosphere and was laid out well too. I've been going here for close to 3 years and the food and service has been great except this one light skin lady with jet black wavy hair she was always slow with the orders and always catch an attitude with our party, which I don't understand why since we're good tippers (20%). For any AYCE places, I prioritize food quality and variety to keep you eating. This checks both. The menu is actually pretty extensive then they also have self serve sauce station which also comes with so many snacking noms like hou sui chicken, pickled chicken feet, grass jelly, and fruit jelly there as well; no additional fees. Also got self serve plum juice for that sour and sweet tangy drink for your palette cleanser. Workers mainly speak Chinese but we luckily had a waiter that spoke English tend to us. Friendly staff and worked quickly. Make sure to confirm how much is a serving as we seemed to we've up getting too much but was still able to clear the table. Soups are charged per person or the table can share a large pot. If you have a large party (we were party of 7) and sit in the VIP room, everyone will have to get their own pot. Ambiance looked slightly run down but nor dirty. Bathroom available. With all things considered this is one of my top 5 Chinese hot pots. Love! read more
