After the service was complete, Christian took the extra time to check for any other leaks and to make sure things were looking good across the rest of the house, which I greatly appreciated. Truly an Honest Review -…read more First off, The Water Heater Company fixed the issue with the pilot light on our Rheem Professional water heater, which had been going out after hours or days of use. This had happened in the past when we first purchased the unit about four years ago. At that time, I replaced the burner assembly and control valve, and the problem was solved. I never found out the exact cause, but it was fixed. Fast forward to today, and the same issue started happening again. Unfortunately, I was away on business, and my wife was home with the kids, getting tired of relighting the pilot every morning and sometimes multiple times during the day. We called The Water Heater Company, and their service and communication were excellent. After diagnosing the issue, they contacted Rheem and ordered replacement parts under warranty: the burner assembly and control valve. They gave us three options: replace the two parts under warranty, replace the entire water heater, or install a tankless water heater. Because this is a very expensive unit that otherwise works well, we chose to repair it. Here's my honest opinion. As a fellow tradesman, I understand that skilled work is expensive. Still, the labor charge of $800 felt very high for what was essentially a warranty part replacement. The first visit took about an hour, and the second visit took around 50 minutes. I understand there's drive time, phone calls, office staff, insurance, tools, and scheduling overhead, but it still seemed excessive. Maybe I'm looking at it through the eyes of someone who usually handles these kinds of repairs myself, but I was away for an extended period and needed the problem resolved. So I'm torn on the rating. Quality of work: 10/10. Professionalism: 10/10. Price: 4/10. In the end, though, I paid for peace of mind and have the issue fixed correctly than save a little money and end up with a possible poor repair.

My warranty covered the replacement water heater but not the labor. I called Home Depot and they forwarded me to Fast Water Heater Company who insisted on cutting Home Depot out of the loop and installing a water heater from their supply rather than taking mine back to Home Depot. Even though I called at 1pm, they couldn't send someone until the next day. Over the phone, they quoted me: $859 for installation $153 for the permit $49 for a "disposal fee" (which they wouldn't need if they went through home depot) When their two installers arrived, they tried to upsell me $3500 worth of unnecessary and inflated charges. - They tried to sell me a $20 pan for $72 (not optional). - They would charge $160 for rolling the water heater on a hand-cart from their truck on the street to my ground floor water heater closet (no stairs, no lifting, not optional). - They tried to sell me a $35 expansion tank for $350 (optional, but they tried to scare me into thinking it wasn't. I later chatted with my engineer neighbor who said it was completely unnecessary). $859 for 2 hours of work is already an absurd hourly rate, and they're at least tripling the cost of every "not optional" add on. They ultimately quoted me over $2000 for all their "non-optional" up-charged add-ons, and I refused. I called around and found another installer who did the work for $950, including pans, hoses, and a trip to-and-from Home Depot. This company is taking advantage of people's trust in Home Depot and they should honestly be ashamed of themselves.
