I've lived in San Leandro almost my entire life and somehow hadn't gone to this Loard's before last week. Dropped by with my fiancé on a whim as we walked past it (encouraged by how hot it was that day) and there was no one else in the shop. The girl behind the counter was super nice and let my fiancé try a sample, and was just generally really pleasant. Unfortunately, they were out of the horchata ice cream, so I went with a two-scoop cup of black raspberry and banana. Absolutely delicious, creamy ice cream, and generous scoops. My fiancé went with two scoops of the caramel cashew in a cone. There are a ton of different flavors on the menu, along with shakes, sundaes, and seasonal specials. I love how both the retro inside and outside of the shop are really well maintained and a throwback to the days of soda shops. It's nice being in here and enjoying a moment's escape from the rat race with a simple scoop (or two, or three) of the flavors that make us happy. Small old fashion ice cream shop. Be aware that this is a small shop and there is only one person working, be patient. Thy have a huge selection of ice creams, just look up at the board. We got 2 cones and were very happy as we sat outside on the picnic tables and at them. Unfortunately one scoop rolled off and they happily replaced it. This time we put that in a cup just to make sure it didn't roll again. If you come this way you must try this place. After a good lunch, I wanted ube ice-cream. I yelped for ube ice cream because I haven't had it in a year. My spot I go to, they weren't answering the phone, and I haven't seen them make it in awhile. Clancy's ube ice cream was my go to. Never knew the main factory for Laords was in San Leandro. I've always seen their stores, but I was led here. I decided to get a scoop first for a taste test. I would say, nah! It's not it! It didn't taste like Ube at all. It was a bit too creamy. Took away from the ube flavor. Also, a good ube ice cream has small bits of the ube. Just not what I was looking for. However, the place has all the other flavors for all the ice cream lovers. One of my FAVORITE ice cream shops I have been coming here over 20 years. Located right in San Leandro, CA off of Marina BLVD. I'm very basic when it comes to ice cream. I pretty much ALWAYS choose vanilla with chocolate syrup or hot fudge. Never been to a Loard's Ice Cream. Definitely, has a nostalgic of the 1950s with their old menu's and ice cream lids. We had a chocolate and mango shake and it was delicious. Dare I compare the mango to Mitchell's? It's definitely a close 2nd place. If I am ever in the East Bay this will definitely be my go to. Can't go too wrong with Ice Cream... Add good customer service, old time flavors like Bubble gum ice cream and you get 5 stars! Easily my favorite ice cream spot, I've always preferred them over other ice creameries...it could be that I'm partial to bubble gum ice cream and they are the only ones that ways have it. The employees typically appear to be high school or college kids with cool personalities and they take their time making orders. A staple in San Leandro. Pros: A scoop is under $4, which makes it totally affordable. So many options including some unique Latinx and Asian flavors. Parking and outside seating make it an easy place to get a scoop. Cons: The staff. I've been here now 5 times this summer and not once have I gotten a smile from anyone working here. Not even a welcome in, or any human connection or anything. Given that this is an issue with the other Loard's location, I think this might be an issue with the company. Ambiance is sterile, despite the fun flavors and toppings. It's as if they don't really want you there. Much needed especially recently it's gotten really hot. This is my first time at this location and I didn't realized how popular it is! There's a line of at least 2-3 parties out the door when I went evening of a weekday. They only allow 5 people in at a time so a line forms pretty quickly. Mocha almond fudge is always my fav, rich and creamy. A single scoop (or two) of that already fills me up. We also tried their banana flavor, also very good. They have seasonal favorites such as pumpkin, pistachio, and eggnog. They also offer sundaes, floats, and shakes. Will def be back for a sweet treat! Such a cute, local fav/hangout spot. read more

For some reason, this place has been escaped my notice. Hmm!? I decided to order an ice cream cake from this place as opposed the place we normally ordered. This ice cream spot offers many flavors. After reading the flavors on the wall, I picked chocolate shower as the flavor. The base was chocolate cake then combined with chocolate showers (tiny chips). You don't feel heavy at all. You don't feel creamy enough either. In my mind, it was more on the lighter side of a birthday dessert which was good. I am glad I finally noticed this place and gave it a try. I work really close by and sometimes after a long hard day of lifting boxes of tile I like to treat myself to an ice cream cone so I find myself at loards about twice a week. The staff is always very friendly and helpful no matter who you get. Tonight I had nice young lady go out of her way to fill a quart up with rocky road ice cream since they don't sell it pre-packaged, and this was after she already helped me with an ice cream cone about 15 minutes earlier haha. The reason I decided to try Loard's is because of my friend's recommendation because she raved that Loard's is her fave ice place in the area. So my bf and I came to here after lunch a couple weekends ago for some ice cream. Initially, I thought the ice cream art on the garage doors of the factory building was really cute, and I was planning to take a picture of my ice cream with that. Upon walking into the place, it looks kinda old with the decor and lighting. The staff were not that welcoming. We got to try a couple samples before deciding on some flavors. I ended up getting Chocolate Showers and Salted Caramel on a cake cone which the cone broke a little on the sides while the guy was placing the scoops on. Then my bf got a scoop of Green Tea and Mocha Fudge in a cup. The ice cream flavors were okay; we've definitely tasted better quality ice cream elsewhere for sure. So we were definitely not impressed by this place at all. I'll stick with my favorites from now on instead. read more

When you're doomed to have an outdoor birthday party on one of the hottest days of the year, what do you do?! ICE CREAM! We chose the "Cups n' Cones" package which included 4 flavors of ice cream, cones, and cups. Our main contact was Brian from beginning of creating our order and we had the pleasure of meeting him at our event. We ordered ube, mocha almond fudge, rocky road, and kookie dough. Our guests loved the ice cream and many commented how they grew up with Loard's ice cream (super nostalgic!) and also said Brian was very friendly and nice. Brian was very patient with our guests and didn't even complain about horrendous weather during our party. I like that Brian was also very conscientious about some of our guests' nut allergies and made sure to have separate scoopers for each flavor. Still to this day I have yet to have a better ice cream than Loard's Almond Joy. My all time favorite.
