So have you ever waited to try something for so long that when you actually have it you are let down because of your own anticipation. Well that did not happen to me when I finally got to try a Lobster roll from the famous LobstaTruck. A few years ago I was at the Tustin AMC when I saw the truck. I had heard about it so we went over only to see a line that was 40 yards deep. No way to make our movie so we put it off. A few months ago I was somewhere that they were going to be only to learn that the truck broke down and the killer was last month when I was in Irvine and saw on Twitter that they were a couple blocks away. I finished my meeting and drove right over only to see the driving away. Aaahhgggg!!!! So today was a few miles away in Long Beach and decided to try the roll. I was shocked to find that there was no line and only a few marines that had just picked up their orders. I was surprised to hear whether I wanted butter or mayo. I thought I all rolls came with mayo but I asked what was more popular. The gal mentioned that the butter was more popular so I had to try that one. I was thinking about adding the extra meat but I am glad I didn't, the roll was perfect although I wish it were a little bigger. The roll here comes on what looks like a giant buttered Texas toast, not the hoagie type roll I was imagining but the toast was really delicious and adds a lot of taste to the roll. My roll had plenty of meat and had a few big chunks that you can really bite into. It had some butter on the lobster but not so much that it was oily. Just perfect. I cant believe how good it was to taste this awesome explosion of deliciousness and I cant wait to get back to try the sandwich with mayo; you know for research. Next time I will also try the lobster bisque soup. The Marine that was eating next to me also had the soup and it really made me crave it but I had a big breakfast this morning and so I will have to chase down this truck again. read more

I love me some Lobstatruck! I crave the big chunks of lobster on a warm bun smothered with butter almost daily. So. Good. I got to try Lobstatruck for the first time (finally!) when they were part of the Truck Squad meet up in Fullerton (Imperial and Harbor). If you want to know their whereabouts, they post their schedule for the week on their website. When I got there, Lobstatruck had the longest line out of all the food trucks. I got 1 lobster roll with butter ($13) for myself. The roll was smaller than I expected lengthwise, but it was packed with tons of lobster. Not just tiny lobster pieces, but HUGE chunks! I got to try the lobster roll with both butter and mayo in one, and I definitely recommend getting the all butter roll instead. I found the mayo overpowered the lobster flavor, unlike the butter which just enhanced it. The lobster roll with butter was so delicious, I wished I had another at the time. Many people complain about the $13 price for the lobster roll but you have to consider these factors: - Lobster is not cheap - Food from a food truck is always pricey - Other lobster rolls elsewhere (like Lobster Me in Las Vegas) cost even more AND don't taste as good as the ones from Lobstatruck In my opinion, the money is worth it. Next time I catch Lobstatruck, I will buy two without hesitation. Seldom do I eat lobster, so why not? When I went, they were out of clam chowder already. Ohhh Lobstatruck is such a treat. A bunch of fresh hot lobster meat on a buttery toasted bread roll with warm butter drizzled on top? Yes please! The lobsta roll was $12 which is fine, but it was kind of small. It was the perfect size for a light meal, but if you're a big eater, you'll probably be able to scarf down five or six of these easy. There wasn't a ruler handy at the time, but it seemed to be about 5 inches long. For twelve bucks, I was wanting more. Much more. It was alright...not as rich and flavorful as I'd like, but it did fill in the whiney gaps in my tummy, left over from the smallish lobster roll. The other thing they did beautifully was the freshly squeezed lemonade. It did seem to take longer than the other menu items -- did they actually squeeze and mix each cup? I like the lobster roll from the Lobstatruck because the lobster is served coated with butter or mayo . . . that's it. No filler material like stuffing or celery that others add. The brioche bread was perfectly toasted and buttered. For $13, it's not cheap but it's better value and more authentic than those from nearby restaurants. I'm so happy to find their truck in Brea today as all the other locations r far from my home. I ordered both lobster roll n crab roll n all with butter. I tried the lobster roll once I get it as I can't wait n it was so amazing! It taste very good with a lot of lobster meat n the right amount of butter! In fact, I don't think it's too small, I think for ladies, it's the perfect portion. If it's too big, then the calories must be very high! Lol! I haven't tried the crab roll yet, but I'm sure that it will be the same good as the lobster roll! It's for sure that I'll go back the next time whenever it's in Brea! It was okay. I excepted a bit more from the lobster roll since it was the "Lobstatruck." This was my first experience with this food truck. I got the lobster roll with butter and not mayo for $12. My sister and I shared it. It was good but not that good. I felt as though it was put together without any love. Like slice bread, scope lobster, butter and serve. The overall appearance was a mess so that was a turn off. The upside was the portion was generous though my roll itself was not toasted . Sometimes it is best to let the protein speak for itself but sometimes it does need a bit of help other than mayo/butter. Will I try this again, sure why not. I believe in second chances. The lobster roll was very delicious and loaded with big chunks of high quality lobster. Both mayo and butter versions are amazing, but butter is my favorite. It's one of those things that those from the New England states will vary on opinion of which one is more authentic depending on where they're from. Honestly, I've never had anything else on their menu but I can imagine they are all good. If you've never had an authentic lobster roll, trust me these are as authentic as they get, I'd recommend trying one of each and seeing which you prefer. Ok, people complaining about the price, the size, and the clarified butter (??) have never been to New England, and have never had a proper lobster roll, because this truck is legit. The hot dog bun is crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, the clarified butter is not too salty, and brings out the sweetness of the lobster, and finally, the chunks of lobster are fresh and plentiful. We figured the amount of lobster is equivalent to at least four claws, and at $13 a roll, that is a great deal. read more

I absolutely love lobster rolls, and this truck makes them realllllly good. I always alternate between the lobster roll with butter and the lobster roll with mayo. The butter allows for the true essence of lobster to come out, while the mayo makes for a more traditional lobster roll taste. It's a little pricey at $12-13 a roll, but they are pretty generous with the lobster so I feel that it is worth it. They also make a pretty mean clam chowder so when you get a chance you should get a cup. Their lobster bisque is not that great so I'd skip that. They take credit card unlike a lot of food trucks so no worries if you don't have cash on you :) read more

Was really hoping to enjoy the lobster, but was sorely disappointed. $13 for a lobster roll, which I finished in 3 bites (it's the size of a small hot dog bun). The only thing that keeps me from giving them 5 stars is the inconsistency with the amount of lobster meat that you get. Sometimes I get less meat, sometimes I get more. I make it a point to get a Lobster Roll every time they make their way to North Orange County. Usually the first Friday of the month they park at a Chase Suite Hotel that is close to my work. I prefer the Lobster roll with butter although the mayonnaise one isn't bad either. The warm buttery salty bun is a perfect compliment to a mound of delicious lobster. I always pay the extra $5 for extra meat. That makes the sandwich $18 total. I wouldn't do it everyday but once a month it is totally worth it. I kinda found the reviews to be misleading as people said it was small but the lobster pieces to be big, but the roll was literally the size of my hand. And mind you, I have pretty small hands. I just found out that the Lobstatruck comes to our neighborhood every couple weeks, so upon discovering this, I raced down there eagerly anticipating one of their delicious lobsta rolls! I'd had them a couple times previously and really enjoyed them. However, this last time I was really disappointed. Most of the meat was from the claws rather than the tail and it just didn't taste fresh. The buns they serve them on are the New England style hot dog buns, which I love, but the meat was a big disappointment! Being from Boston, I know my lobsta and I can tell you that compared to the lobster rolls you get anywhere on the eastern seaboard, which are about twice the size and loaded with tail meat, these are pretty sad! Not to mention, they are way overpriced for what you get! Guess I'll have to try Cousins Maine Lobster truck and see how it compares! read more
