Very expensive for small portions. Service less than mediocre that was apathetic from greeting to end. Soups came out cold, like real cold and needed to request to reheat. Salad was tiny; roll was tiny. Small patio with umbrellas if you can catch the sun just right.
What a nice surprise. I stopped in to ask for directions to the post office and the guy was so nice. I figured I'd Support the restaurant and that was reinforced after I read the yelp reviews! Really tasty little spot and cool vibe! Nice menu coupled with great service! If I lived here it would definitely be on regular rotation.
Stopped in for a late afternoon lunch while visiting Coronado Island on a beautiful sunny Monday. Open Ambience. It's an order at the counter with a small seating area inside and a nice patio outdoors. Purchase & provided a number. Not only do that have their famous lobster rolls, but they also have additional signature sandwiches, specialty soups, salads and home made cole slaw as just one of their side options. Most people here order the classic lobster roll as did I. That said, you can also customize your roll, plus they offer shrimp and crab choices too! Not to long of a wait, but keep in mind ALL orders are made "fresh to order", so if they're busy it can take a little longer. Presentation was nice and sandwiches are served with a slice of fresh lemon that brightens the taste. The highlight was the decadent butter fried roll. It was warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. You can taste the butter in each bite. They provide fresh cold water that you can serve yourself which was welcome with the warm weather. Additionally, they have soda and lemonade. It could be considered a bit pricey, but everything I was eating on my San Diego trip near the beach is. Service was friendly and they brought my meal to my table which was nice. Would definitely go again. Note-There are two other locations in the San Diego area. If you have to use the restroom there is not one inside their establishment, it's a few buildings down and they will provide you a key and directions.
Looking for a quick snack, we ended up here at Lobster West because this is also where we found easy parking on a busy weekend in Coronado. Got the CLASSIC LOBSTER ROLL and my son got the BOSS LOBSTER ROLL , my wife ordered her FLIGHT OF ALL THREE SIGNATURE SOUP , which is the Lobster Bisque , New England Clam chowder, and Maryland Crab . Everything is okay, no complaints about the taste. I was expecting the Boss Lobster to have a much bigger size difference from a Classic lobster roll, but it seems the Classic and Epic do not have much difference. Also, it would be nice when I'm paying to the cashier, if he had told me that they offer a Military discount, it's obvious I'm wearing my Retired Hat that says Retired Navy in Big Bold letters. They do have a sign but it got covered by other customers standing next to it so I didn't see that part until the other customer left and I already paid. Few seating only available inside but they do have a few tables outdoors. They don't have a bathroom but when you ask they will give you a Key for the upstairs floor that you can use, it belongs to multiple businesses in the building.
Great experience overall- the 3 half roll option is a fantastic value! Taste wise everything was on point. The service is friendly and prompt. Atmosphere is typical beach town dive- with nice dog friendly outdoor seating. Only downside is there is no restroom.
We honestly didn't expect to eat a lobster roll in San Diego. I was so elated to stumble across this place on 3/23/25 while on a weekend jaunt with my daughter, Kaylah and her friend, Sergio. The restaurant is small and clean. Limited seating inside. However, there is additional seating outside. We placed our order and paid up front and then were served our food. We decided to eat outside under the sun. It was a beautiful day. It had been awhile since I had eaten Lobster roll. My daughter and I ordered the Classic Lobster roll $23. She had a side of Lobster bisque. I had a side of coleslaw. We both really enjoyed it. It was flavorful and delicious! Sergio got the Junior Sampler: Crab roll and Lobster roll $21 which he enjoyed as well. The prices were reasonable. Service was great. We would definitely return when back in San Diego! =)
Tasty but more like an appetizer size for two adults and 2.5 kids. The bill was around 70 bucks and we still needed to get a side of mac and cheese.
The cashier was friendly and promptly took our order. They may have been understaffed, but getting the gluten free lobster roll took around 15 min. I was happy to find a gluten free roll which turned out to be a hot dog bun shape. It tasted good, everything was served cold. It was a cold bun that had cold lobster with a little oil and spices on top. It was pricey, around $27 out the door. I have not had a lobster roll and expected it to be warm, but it did have a good flavor, but was a small portion. The place is smaller inside, but cute decor and lots of outdoor seating. I took mine to go to eat at the beach. If I wanted to splurge I might order something warm if I went again.
I've been wanting to try this place for a long time. I DoorDash it today and I knew I wanted to try a little bit of everything, so I got the Nor'Easter which includes the Jr crab roll, Jr lobster roll, Jr shrimp roll. I also got a cup lobster bisque and a toasted roll to go with it and two Whoopie pies for dessert. Finally, I got the tarragon lemon aïoli on the side. The sandwiches were small (hence the "Jr") but after eating them and the very generous cup of soup, I was very full! For some reason, I was expecting the sandwiches to be mediocre, but immediately when I opened the bag, the smell was heavenly and the taste was even better. They were delicious! I got them all Connecticut style, which I think means warmed up? My favorite was the crab roll but they were all amazing. The bisque was good too -- not my favorite I've ever had (there's some flavor I usually like that was a little lacking. I think it's the sherry flavor? I'm not sure.) but definitely very tasty. I'm too full to try the whoopie pies yet but they look just like my mom's so I'm very hopeful!! I'm so pleasantly surprised and will absolutely be stopping by this restaurant to grab some more food soon!
Went here on a weekend with our puppy around lunch and it wasn't busy at all. They have outdoor patio seating so that's really nice if you want to bring a dog along. We had the classic lobster rolls, lobster bisque and Maryland crab soup. The lobster rolls were good, but the bread is really what carried the lobster rolls! The bread was soft, flaky and buttery. The classic is a little expensive for the price though as it's literally just the lobster roll with no sides or anything. They could also add a little more lobster to the classic but they want you to pay more for the meat upgrades. The soups were okay. I thought the lobster bisque was solid but wasn't a fan of the crab soup. Overall I'd say it's a cute little spot if you want a quick lunch in Coronado or want to take your dog out while you eat. Parking is hit or miss since it's street parking in Coronado. You might have to walk a bit to get to the place.
I want to give this place a higher score, but really it was just overall...OK. Pete's Seafood remains my favorite place for lobster roll and clam chowder. Apologies for the redness of the food photos (the umbrella above our table was red), but here is my feedback about the things we ordered at Lobster West: - Lobster roll classic ($24): The lobster meat was tender. The bun was nicely buttered (although I did not realize until halfway through eating that they forgot to cut the other side of my bun or something, because it looked like a hot dog bun still & did not have much butter). I think the light touch of mayo and spice was a good flavor addition. - Lobster roll boss ($32): I would just stick with the Classic size. I do not think there was actually 50% more meat. - Flight of soups ($15): This is definitely the best deal if you want to try all three. But in hindsight I did not enjoy the lobster bisque or the Maryland crab soup, so I probably should have just ordered the clam chowder alone. Although the clam chowder was just ...OK. -- Lobster bisque: Is it wrong to expect lobster meat inside a lobster bisque? This had zero meat. It was all cream. If I had known it would be lobster-scented broth, I would have skipped this entirely. So I recommend that you skip the lobster bisque. -- Maryland crab soup: This is a tomato-based soup. It tasted fine, but it was not what my palate was looking for that day. -- Clam chowder: The chowder was good enough, but I have had better. Luckily it did have the promised clams. Both packets of soup crackers were STALE. Taste one before you add some to the soup. The crackers almost ruined the whole chowder. Indoor and outdoor dining, but technically everything is outdoors. There is a hand sanitizer dispenser at the entrance. I did not realize until the meal was almost over that there is a bathroom available with a code. Service was quick and friendly (just involved giving the order at the cashier, and then interacting with the service who dropped off the food at the table). Parking: I walked here from an event I was attending, so I have no idea how hard/easy it is to park here.
Every year we take a vacation to SD and we ALWAYS make sure we take a trip or 2 to Lobster West. We've been doing this for 6 years and we get excited every time and we are NEVER disappointed! They recently just added the lobster Mac n cheese and let me just tell you !! Better than any restaurant out there ! We did upgrade a little and added crab in the Mac n cheese and it's worth every penny !! Service is great ! Place is always clean!
The lobster rolls here are so delicious! I usually add even more lobster but this time I didn't, and it was a good portion size. The bread and lobster is buttery and full of flavor. There aren't many tables here, but you do have the option to sit inside or enjoy the ocean air on the patio. My only complaint is the price. If they were a few dollars cheaper, I would eat here more often.

We have been here multiple times and the food is always good. This time we tried the soup flight and the main event which is all three rolls, crab, lobster and shrimp. Everything is very fresh seasoned perfectly and the rolls are buttery and delicious. Each soup was delicious and hot as well. The service was fast and friendly. read more
I was excited to try this spot out because of the great review. What makes this place great are the huge chunks of fresh lobster in the roll. Very filling and yummy. The roll itself wasn't actually that inspiring or interesting. They do have a nice dog friendly patio. And a few wine and beer options. The staff were friendly and the vibe was chill. read more
WILL NOT COME BACK. I'd like to think a lot of people agree they're willing to spend good money on good food. I'm sorry, but at lobster west the quality and taste of the food are not good enough for their ridiculous prices. We were intrigued by the sign down the street that said something along the lines of "voted best lobster roll in the city" and decided to check it out! We were excited because we've had a really good lobster roll here in San diego at the Hillcrest farmers market and wanted to see if this one was better. Unfortunately, the Lobster Roll lacked fresh flavor in the meat and was almost rubbery. We also ordered a flight of seafood soups and they were WORSE than the roll; they were almost inedible. Their selection of drinks and beverages was lacking as well. Sadly, with prices like this people expect amazing fresh food as advertised and this was just not my experience. If they were once good, they are no longer. Recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

I've heard great things about this place but unfortunately I was mostly let down. We dined in, and the service was decent but the seating area was dirty with food and trash scattered around the ground. Classic lobster roll: the best part of the meal by far, and the only thing worth getting imo. Lobster is very fresh and the butter and sauce goes so well with the bread. Some places have bread that's too uneven and dry, but that's not the case here. Even with the regular there was so much lobster which I love. You can get even more extra lobster for a few more dollars too! 5/5 For sides we had the coleslaw and the beans. Coleslaw was wayyyyy too sour with too much vinaigrette, and too much mayo as well. Got sick of it after one bite. Beans were nothing special either. 1.5/5 Clam chowder: not bad but nothing special either. It's very creamy but doesn't have enough clams in my opinion. We were back again yesterday and this time it just happened to be our 25th wedding anniversary. I know, I know... This isn't really a silver anniversary type of restaurant but when you've had surgery and been inside for a few months, getting out involves wanting to be outside. So the hubs and I loaded up our golden retriever Floyd, grabbed some lobster rolls, and headed over to the beach for a nice Coronado sunset. It was perfect. The service was again, very attentive. The rolls were both delicious. We asked for ours heated and with butter and they delivered. I think some of the reviews I see here are because folks are unaware that there are different types of lobster rolls. So just ask for what you want. They were more than happy to accommodate. Anyway, I know people's expectations are different but I have had nothing but positive experiences at this restaurant. I will definitely be back for another lobster rolls and sunset excursion. read more

We stopped into this location and it was busy so we figured it had to be good. They take your order at the front counter. We got a crab sandwich. Comes with chips and a drink. We got our table on the outside patio which is set up nicely. Umbrellas to keep the sun off you while you enjoy the sandwich. Let me tell you this was one of the best crab sandwiches I have ever eaten, and I would suggest anybody looking for a great crab sandwich to try this location. You won't be disappointed. read more

I requested this sandwich hot and it was so delicious! The buttery bun was lightly toasted and it was the perfect meat to bread ratio. The sandwich was $31 and was worth every dollar IMO. It is a counter service with a patio but we sat at one of the front tables to get a little sun. Will definitely go back again! read more
Last year we ate at Lobster West and loved it, so we came back again this year on our vacation. It I was just as terrific this year as before! This time we brought four guests with us and they loved it as well. We had the sampler with three different sandwiches: Lobster, crab, and shrimp. They were all delicious! The rolls themselves taste incredible. Also, had the lobster bisque soup and coleslaw as sides. Neither one disappointed. Soooo Good. Service is quick and the location is small but immaculate. We always sit outside. We will be back again next year. Our favorite meal on our trip this time. read more

I was on to go see the Coronado parade and tree lighting but got hungry so I decide to stop by this place. There is no parking there but plenty of street parking! Surprisingly it wasn't as crowded compared to last time when I walked by it. I got the grilled cheese and lobster roll sandwiches. The grilled cheese was scrumptious! The lobster roll was good as well but I thought it could use a tad bit more flavor. The lobster bisque was AMAZINGGG, especially during a cold December night. The crackers made it intriguing to taste because of the crunch but it was not bad at all. Def recommend! read more

Ordered 2 main events with extra meat consisting of a lobster, crab and shrimp rolls each. It was a takeout order and we arrived to pick it up within the specified time limit. The rolls were flavorful with plenty of seafood so it was worth getting extra meat. There were 2 issues with the order. One, it was cold to the point the butter had solidified. Two, they were not cut as it stated in the description. Normally it wouldn't be a problem, but we're visiting and don't have access to utensils. It made sharing difficult. read more

Ummm, not sure how this place has such great reviews. Kind of bummed it wasn't as good! Lobster roll is served cold with butter, which solidified because the lobster was that cold. Decent amount of lobster in it though and bread on outside was nice and fluffy. Maybe try another protein option? Soup trio was nothing special, I'd say skip is was the lobster bisque had an odd taste to it. read more

One of my go-to places in Coronado ! My wife told me about Lobster West when we were looking at the Christmas lights at the hotel, which is a small walk from there. I'm glad I went and tried it out! Parking: There is street parking, and also paid parking at a CVS further down the road which is roughly a 3-5 minute walk. No issues to me due to the area and walking past all the shops and restaurants. Service: The service was professional. The person that greeted us was Neo (I hope I'm spelling it right) and he gave us a breakdown of the menu. In the background he informed us on what was the popular items and we decided to go with his recommendation. There's seating in and outside the restaurant. It is located on a corner, but due to it being away from the main road there's hardly any traffic there. Food: We ordered the dueling claws which includes a Crab and a Lobster Roll. We also ordered a lobster bisque to go with it. These 3 items are the perfect trifecta whenever I eat here. Both the crab and lobster are seasoned perfectly the bisque is worm and flavorful. I would dip my roll into the bisque for a bit to receive a huge burst of flavor. With the bisque and the crab/lobster together? I was in heaven, I forgot where I was and at the moment that was a good thing lol Meal was very filing and I didn't eat for the rest of the day. Also in the case if you want water they have a service station where you can consume water and the water was delicious. Delicious in the case where it didn't taste like sink water which is always a plus. Ambiance: Ambiance is great. There's one way to enter. You can eat in outside on their patio. The colors and the light inside are very welcoming. Opportunities: Only thing I can think of is to have a heater? That was due to the weather outside, but that would fall more on a personal preference to someone if they didn't dress appropriately for the weather. Other than the heater which isn't big deal, I couldn't think of anything honestie. Overall: There are a lot of places in San Diego that have seafood which is great, but I dont think Ive found a place that has such flavor including the bisque to enhance it. I'll be going here again more than likely next week. Huge shoutout to Neo for his great customer service and hospitality! Bonus: Neo mentioned that they're opening more locations which I'm happy to hear. The only locations that are open to my knowledge are La Jolla and the Coronado location. I'm glad more people are able to experience what I did and try out this amazing food! 5/5 read more

Wha an amazing value for your money! We found this hidden gem on Coronado Island! The ambiance is very casual ( you can walk in your swim suit) yet the taste is fine dinning! We had a delicious lobster bisque for $5, side salad for $4 and the combo of lobster and crab rolls ( $21) and flavorful pino grigio from Italy for $7. Excellent value for excellent food. Fantastic and friendly service from Marco and Noah. Dog friendly as plenty of seats outside. Highly recommend!!! read more
You're right on the water so you expect some good seafood right? We're pretty far from Maine so I was a bit skeptical about the lobster but this joint was great! Lobster roll and tomato bisque soup combo were awesome! As always lobster is a little on the pricier side but for good reason bc this spot was delicious. Good service too! read more

First time - Went Ok. Almost 5 - Crab soup soup was a bit cold and so as the beans. Not sure if they serve cocktail sauce. We didn't ask cause I was halfway already finishing the Main Event. Bread was buttery. Lobster was good and crab roll was ok butI was thinking that this was filled all the way. It's January and it is cold, was looking for a little bit of warmer sitting area besides outside. Ambience was OK. Great music! Will come back next time to try other items. read more
When I went to Lobster West I kept in mind this is the west coast and near the Mexican border at that. While I really, really liked the lobster rolls in New England, I didn't expect to get that here - but it came close. As you can see from my inside pic, it's a small place with most of its seating outside. We found shade, and the traffic noise was minimal. As you can see when you order the "Boss" size, you do get a fair amount. (As a tip, we ordered the "boss" size which is 50% more lobster, but it's only 25% more price - then we split the sandwich: it was plenty for the both of us). The meat was tender, the seasoning wasn't over powering and the bun was quite crunchy, but also light. The bun was a great lobster holder but didn't detract from the lobster. The baked beans were okay - standard. The Cole Slaw was mayo based and was lightly dressed. The slaw was quite crisp and cold. If you can't make it back East, this may be the place for your lobster roll fix. read more

Maine lobster shipped from the east coast. This is as good as it can get for the rest of us on the west coast. Bread is fluffy and very buttery with a great toast all over it. The lobster meat is tender and mildly sweet. I always enjoy their classic lobster roll with some added meat. If the weather is cooler they also make a really great lobster bisque that's very creamy and filling. read more

Had lunch here for my birthday, and we got everything! Boss lobster roll, and some combos! Blueberry soda really good! Great service and sat outside on a beautiful day! Lobster roll was to die for and crab roll was supper yummy too, shrimp roll was decently seasoned, and baked beans were good but are sweet. Love this place! read more

Came here today to try it out since I've seen this place all over my Instagram. I went with the Nor'Eastern option which gets you 3 mini rolls so you can try them all. I also got the clam chowder & the lobster bisque. The rolls themselves were good, I LOVE the bread and how toasted it was. The meat itself was a lot saltier than I'm used to but still tasty. I think my favorite was the crab one! Wasn't that salty and had lots of flavor. The clam chowder was delicious! It hit the spot for sure. The lobster bisque was cold when I got it & I couldn't finish it due to how salty it was. Wouldn't get the bisque again but would definitely get the clam chowder! It's a cute little location on the corner and has a bunch of outdoor seating which is always nice. Service was nice and quick too! read more

Yes our rolls can be served Connecticut style, with warm meat, or Maine style, with the lobster meat chilled. Hope that’s helpful!

Unfortunately they do not. They primarily serve lobster rolls.

We specialize in fresh seafood rolls. We do have salads that can be made without seafood, and grilled cheese using our freshly baked rolls. If nothing strikes your fancy, you can always order it to go for him or bring something there for yourself…

There is mostly outside seating, first come first serve, no reservations.
